I know it might seem like we've nothing left to say but I'm sure we have :)

I have to tell you: Seville a l'Aube is on the TK Maxx website for half price - lots of other L'Artisan perfumes but that one is very special and I wore nothing else all summer!

SOTD: Cuir de Russie. Like a fuzzy hug with vague undertones of marauding Cossacks from the 19th century.

Rose de Kandahar is very rich. I could smell almonds and ambergris. Definitely not a healing scent for a hangover! Unfortunately, as you know Toys, Tauers have nuclear longevity so you might be stuck like that for a while.

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 17/12/2015 16:14

Yes, only sprayed on my wrist, so can't detect it too much with my very thick coat on. I'm trying not to move my arm too much and waft the smell around.. Heading to do an hour's work, then it's pizza time, methinks.

MuttonWasAGoose · 17/12/2015 17:09

Battleaxe if I sell it then the money will just pay bills.

Why don't you tell me what you've got that you'd like to trade? I'm always happy to try new things.

LovelyFriend · 17/12/2015 17:31

I tried some Jicky yesterday - it was OK but I wouldn't buy it. Only lasted about 30 minutes on me though Shock
By the time I left the shop I could no longer smell it and I was generous with the spraying of the sample.

Still it was great to try one of the scents people are talking about on here - I so really get to a Department store these days (or anywhere selling scent other than Boots).

Tomorrow is fancy industry lunch and I shall be drenched in Feminite du Bois.

MrsCocoa · 17/12/2015 23:01

Can we talk about Christmas reading? Any perfume-related recommendations? A lovely friend bought me the Turin and Sanchez A-Z Guide a few years ago and it made me think about, and experience, fragrance in a different way (such a good present!).

SotD: Fleurs de Sel - a lovely herby wood, the softest chypre I know. Manages to be fresh/aromatic, green and oddly warming. Sadly it doesn't stick around very long on me.

MissBattleaxe · 17/12/2015 23:20

I love Fleurs de Sel.

I heard a rumour they are preparing another Guide. So excited if true.

MissBattleaxe · 17/12/2015 23:21

Chandler Burr's book is good. He shadows SJP and Jean Claude Ellena. Fascinating read.

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2015 02:00

Sunrise, that's very kind of you to offer, but I do have a sample of Fat Electrician already. I love it, all the more because I work with quite a few. Grin

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2015 02:07

Forgot to say, two SOTDs - started with Robert Piguet Calypso, gorgeous earthy (but fleeting) floral, then for this evening a lavish spray of the gorgeous L'Air du Desert....I can still smell it wafting around me. Love it love it love it.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 18/12/2015 07:26

Fleur de Sel sounds really nice. Smile

I'm wearing L'heure Bleu today. It's a strong floral and makes me think of summer- not entirely appropriate for this time of year.

cressetmama · 18/12/2015 09:05

Cointreau, do any of your fat electricians (or even one of the skinny ones) know how to remove a broken screw-mount light-bulb safely from an awkward corner? Sorry to lower the tone, perfumistas...

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2015 12:12

Grin Cresset - someone would doubtless know, but alas I'm not at work today; am recovering on the sofa post-Christmas-Party.

Post your dilemma on Property/DIY, and with any luck the legendary PigletJohn will pop up with a solution.

SOTD is Library of Fragrance Salt Air. It's clean and bracing, but is mingling with the residual LADDM still wafting from my watchstrap.

MissBattleaxe · 18/12/2015 12:58

Cointreau- I love Salt Air. It's got that sort of tang I love. I also love LOF Mahogany. It reminded me of CDG Avignon- all churchy and incense-y.

cressetmama · 18/12/2015 13:34

Cointreau, do we need to pass you an Alka Seltzer? I had indeed posted on DIY, but checked in here first as is my habit, and saw your remark about electricians! And lo, my knight in shining overalls PigletJohn had posted back, telling me to get a carrot inserted into the remains of the mount, but not before turning off the power!!

SoTD is the Terre d'Iris again; it was great yesterday and I could still catch a whiff this morning. I love citrus, but usually it has no lasting power.

cressetmama · 18/12/2015 13:36

Have not encountered Library of Fragrance but they sound worth searching out; do I need to go far? Like, a major city?

CointreauVersial · 18/12/2015 14:52

A carrot?? Who'd have thunk it?

Big branches of Boots sell Library of Fragrance, but you are in far-flung Cornwall, aren't you?

MissBattleaxe · 18/12/2015 16:57

I'm in a smallish town and we have them in our small branch of Boots.

cressetmama · 18/12/2015 19:56

I am in the darkest wasteland of SE Cornwall, and the nearest large Boots involves a trip with passport to Devon, but I will see if LoF has penetrated this far west next time I venture to the city. DH is rather worried about the insertion of the carrot.

witsender · 18/12/2015 20:46

You ladies will know...is there anything reminiscent of Clinque Simple? I loved that but they discontinued it!

ToysDontWorkNoMore · 18/12/2015 20:52

I love Simply it too. Unfortunately there's nothing out there like it. However, you can still get bottles from e-bay (albeit at an inflated price). Sorry!

SecondSunrise · 18/12/2015 21:01

I did laugh at "DH is rather worried about insertion of a carrot".
*Lovely friend" someone is doing reasonably priced decants of some Atelier Colognes on Fragrantica...let me know if you want details (its not me by the way).

CointreauVersial · 20/12/2015 01:20

SOTD was Versace Eros Pour Femme, from one of the Perfume Society boxes. Urgh. Fruity floral with a persistent pomegranite note.

cressetmama · 20/12/2015 15:56

SoTD: Yikes, I haven't got any on yet! Bvlgari Eau de The Bleu, although I would have chosen a vetiver if I had any left that wasn't Lalique EN. Something to sort out in the New Year. Has anyone seen EN (male) at a decent price? Otherwise, I think I may buy a 10ml travel spray of FM Vetiver Extraordinaire. WWYD?

schmalex · 21/12/2015 14:12

SOTD Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice from the Surrender to Chance sampler. It's a bit piney for my taste, but very pleasant and wintry.

I've also tried a couple of Demeter samples - Snow and Fireplace. They both smell exactly as described! Interesting, but not sure I'd wear them (unless possibly layering them with something else, but that's a bit advanced for me at the moment!).

SecondSunrise · 22/12/2015 13:59

cresset have you looked on The Crystal Flacon? They have lots of decants on there. Or Fragrantica Eu/UK split threads?
I've just ordered some splits too:
Hermes Ambre Narguile - honey, cinnamon, apple pie
Roja Dove Unspoken - a gamble this one! Iris, sandalwood, rose, spicy
Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar - Almond,Heliotrope, Honeysuckle, orange blossom
Parfumerie Generale - Praline de Santal - Hazelnuts, heliotrope and sandalwood

I feel a bit naughty now but they were quite bargainous (and I would only end up ordering measley samples of them at a similar price).

SOTD Cafe Rose Tom Ford.
