Ok, so I'm only just over, at 31, but I just don't know if I should hang up, or just throw away Confused my minis..... I have good legs, but over the past couple of years, I've noticed my ageing has accelerated somewhat Sad although I'm up for the fight! I'm on here a lot Wink

I know it depends greatly on the individual, but what are your thoughts, generally.

Well, since I sit here in a short denim skirt over leggings, at 42 I think it's ridiculous to think you need to stop wearing what you like when you reach a certain age!

Twinklestein · 06/11/2015 11:58

Of course you can if you've got good legs, I wear them & I'm 45.
I look around 30 so I guess that helps.

CuntryLiving · 06/11/2015 12:03

Give yourself a slap, and just carry on how you were before. Being 31 doesn't preclude you from wearing short skirts, that's ridiculous!

ItGoesWithoutSaying · 06/11/2015 12:05

Well, BastardGo, I have a few years on you and yesterday was wearing a short pinafore dress with opaques. So I am definitely in the Wear-What-You-Like Camp.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 06/11/2015 12:34

I'm in my 40s and I still wear minis but keep wrinkly cleavage under wraps

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 06/11/2015 12:37

I'm also in my 40's and a fan of mini skirts. My legs are decent enough and I don't suit longer skirts, they look frumpy on me.

I certainly don't look around 30 but I don't careGrin

MamaLazarou · 06/11/2015 12:43

Wear what you like, no-one's going to arrest you for it!

Longislandicetee · 06/11/2015 12:44

I am in my 40s and wore this skirt last weekend. I looked good.Grin

Fuzzballs · 06/11/2015 13:06

For gods sake, 31!!! Threads like this are daft. Who invents these stupid rules, did Kate moss stop wearing mini skirts at 31? Do people laugh at her behind her back? It's whether you like it and think you look nice in it

Lottapianos · 06/11/2015 13:11

Blingy, that's a fab skirt - its caught my eye several times when I've been in M&S. Maybe its calling to me Wink

OP, in the nicest possible way, you're being daft Grin Since when did 31 become old or 'past it' for anything at all? Wear precisely what you fancy

extrastrongblackcoffee · 06/11/2015 13:14

Oooo I'm loving the reaction so far! Grin

Blingy, that doesn't look mini to me. I know it says it is, but that doesn't look far above knee length to me! Maybe my idea of mini is too mini after all Confused

What about the school run? I feel uncomfortable wearing short skirts and dresses then, but I don't want to wear something different. That seems insane! Most mums at my dcs school are very safe in the way they dress and I don't want to look attention seeking etc. I wish I had the confidence to just where what the f**ck I like! Maybe that attitude comes with age, so perhaps by the time I've got the confidence to wear them, I really shouldn't Grin

Wear what you like. Who will care??

mewkins · 06/11/2015 13:21

36 and my skirts seem to get shorter as I get older! Only in winter though when I can wear opaques.

Greengardenpixie · 06/11/2015 13:27

31 blimey...i'm 48! You are still young!!!! Wear wear wear!!! You will also look totally fine in the summer at that age with sandals. I wear an 18 inch short skirt in the winter with opaque tights and boots. I have good legs. I wore shorts in summer and a short skirt similar length with sandals on holiday!

burnishedsilver · 06/11/2015 13:58

31 is sooooo young.

extrastrongblackcoffee · 06/11/2015 14:01

mewkins, Opaque tights definitely add a couple of inches I think. If I wear 40 downwards, I look a bit hookerish.

I pretty much lived in my denim mini last winter, but just wasn't sure whether to get it out again. I think this subject came up because the other day, I bought my first grey, slightly pleated, slightly mumsy, just above the knee 'safe' skirt and it made me sad. I thought 'really?! Am I here already?'

I always wear short skirts. I'm in my forties. I've got extremely long legs too.

LadyMaryofDownt0n · 06/11/2015 14:02

Get it on! If I had good legs I'd be wearing one.

I'm 44 and am wearing this skirt with thick tights. I quite fancy it in the rust colour too.

extrastrongblackcoffee · 06/11/2015 14:07

Erm, not sure why that was sent twice Hmm

73dexter · 06/11/2015 15:20

I have it in the rust FairyCaravan, it's a really nice colour. I think as I get older I care less about rules for clothes. I wear shorts and short skirts in the summer and winter. Mind you I saw a youngish woman at the supermarket today wearing a skirt a couple of inches above her knees with nude coloured pop socks that came up to just below her knees and dug in too. That was not a good look.

Floisme · 06/11/2015 15:24

I think you know when it's time to stop. First your knees go and it's ok because that's what opaques are for. But then your thighs follow. I can't remember how old I was, probably late 40s.

booksrock · 06/11/2015 15:27

I'm 34

For Halloween I popped on my very short skirt as part of an outfit, I was also wearing long socks so only my knees and a bit of leg was showing.

My DS (age 6) told me off for being naked and said I had to get dressed.

I am now officially to old!
