Oh yes herbs. Those are very ' nan chic'.

MI. So bloody sorry about your back. Two things spring to mind. First is treat with heat pad and then cold pad ( a hottie followed by an ice block wrapped in a tea towel) this is physio approved.
Second. Double dose on paracetamol and ibuprofen if you can take them. This is go approved.
Beware anyone offering immediate cure. From experience it will come back , just a bit worse.
Rest your back by lying flat on the floor or similar. Lift your legs, bent at the knee
off the floor to make an L shape . Roll gently from Side to side.
I'm going to leave it at that, but there are other things you can do to relieve the pain. With luck it will resolve itself. Thanks

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/11/2015 20:29

Oh Herbs, I was thinking of something more along the lines of Dorien from Birds of a Feather and was looking for some gold sandals or shoes. (As SAGA stands for Sex And Games for the Aged or Sexual Advances Generally Accepted.) I have the dress, which is slightly Dorien (but not low enough) and am wondering what to do about hair, which will be blonde again by then. Flicky and OTT? And I think blue eye shadow is probably a must.

MI - lie on your back on the floor or on the bed. Put your knees up towards your chest, clasp your shins with your hands and sort of pull your knees in the direction of your head, then release very gently and try again a few times. (Osteopath told me to do this when I had a slipped disc, and to strengthen my back.) Second exercise, lie on floor near wall. Put feet up on wall (highish - I know you are not very tall, but see what you can do Grin), cross arms over chest so that each hand grips the opposite shoulder and slowly lift your shoulders and head off the ground. The British School of Osteopathy in Borough is very good.

And I am thinking some nice thick American Tan support tights to go with the shoes? Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/11/2015 21:10

Sequins or diamante on the shoes?

bigTillyMint · 09/11/2015 21:20

I am going for old lady paaartaaay outfit, Rudy. I have my mother and my aunt as style icons. GrinGrin Quite tempted by a blue rinse wig...

Collymollypuff · 09/11/2015 21:45

I'm more old gent, Rudy. I shall easily out-scruff you all.

Gold leopardskin print scarf, tick.

Black shoes with gold studs, tick.

Gold bag, tick.

I do hate to stereotype, but the senders were all in Essex... Grin

I am now wondering, fishnet tights, or the substantial American tan ones, because they will look so wrong with the rest of the outfit? And I am thinking, maybe gold glitter eyeshadow, rather than blue?

Blackduck · 09/11/2015 22:36

Erm... I'm the mutton dressed as lamb...

MrsSchadenfreude · 09/11/2015 22:49

Excellent, BD. It looks as if we have the same idea!

Collymollypuff · 10/11/2015 00:21

I won't actually be carrying a quoit, but you can assume I've just shambled in from the quoits deck. I did have the delight of sitting next to Herbs at Camino, so got the briefing that it could be sportswear or Captain's Table dress-up, since both are commonly seen on cruises for the overs.

Bizarrely, I was with a group of older laydeez recently who were discussing the merits of cruises, and the relative horrors of always sitting with the same people, or not. The point was made that you might find yourself on a table with people who were "insufferable". Grin And then you might ask to Change Table, which is a very public rebuff. Rather suited to MNers, I thought, who could have their very own flouncers' table in the corner - no, wait, in the middle of the arena, centre stage, with a great big sign saying "Over here, all those who have abandoned hope."

Trifle for breakfast Grin the reward that makes every party worthwhile.

Just lost another long post. Bottom line: DH had brilliant birthday party Star singing Star Star Singet dem Herrn Star Star Star

Love the Nan chic outfit planning, wish I could come to Herbs's party. I'd wear a slightly too-tight and too-short dress with my control pants showing below the hemline.

hattymattie · 10/11/2015 06:32

AurigaGrinat dress. So glas DH's party went well. Hope precious last minute guest behaved.

Mrs S - Dorian from Birds of a Feather is a great glam look.

MI horrible back pain - hope it's improved a bit.

bigTillyMint · 10/11/2015 07:26

Trifle for breakfast?EnvyEnvyEnvy
Glad the party went well.

I'm afraid I don't think I will be rocking Nan-chic for your party, Herbs - I will be coming on public transport and that would be a step too far, I fear!Blush

Morning all. I must ponder my Saga outfit! And thank you for all back suggestions which I shall take up. It is better today but not great At All.

motherinferior · 10/11/2015 08:12

And you are right about exercises. It's that vicious circle that exercises seem so grim when one is already tempted to remain immobile...so I shall get on with it.

DP away. I texted him about his manflu cold. He didn't ask about my back. Shall I LTB or just eat all the duty-free chocolates I brought him?

Cremo · 10/11/2015 08:20

In the spirit of Trifle for Breakfast, neck the choccies.

Auriga, another triumph! Pleased Dh was chuffed. I bet it was all fabulous.

Oso, herbs party, al I can think of is Shelly Winters in the Poseidon Adventure

Lalsy · 10/11/2015 08:54

GrinGrinGrin at party clothes planning. You lot rock. Wish I was coming.

Auriga, enjoy your well deserved trifle!

motherinferior · 10/11/2015 09:04

Am also tempted to go a bit Abigail's Party.

Rosebag · 10/11/2015 09:06

I too am an Essex girl (in terms of where DParents were living when I was born...) however, nothing...nothing I say, even fancy dress will compel me to wear sandals like that Grin However the fugly Pikolinos similar which I admitted to buying last summer will do the job.... and I love them I think I will end up in chinos, a Breton and a shampoo and set....

MI I'm glad your back is improving....I now wear a magnet day and night. I do put my back out occasionally but it gets better so much more quickly since I've been wearing it and suffer far less frequent attacks. This means that I have not had to take the delicious cocktail of Codydramol and Valium for about five years now more's the pity
And I would certainly eat the chocolate..... Grin

Auriga How lovely that the party went so well after all that angst!

WAF Hope it was tolerable...I opt to live with the indigestion as they would have to knock me out with a 1000 ton truck to get that scope anywhere close...

I must admit to feeling very flat today, after yesterdays' meeting and I am about to have a course cancelled for early next year which means I shall be working very little in 2016 (I had requested no teaching in June when we have GCSEs and A2's together) and the booking people won't move the end date (all capacity is planned by course end dates) for the summer course by just one (i 1) week to fit in. I have been trying to negotiate and they have just gone and given the course to someone else. Buggers. Angry Sad

motherinferior · 10/11/2015 09:09

ooh look

bigTillyMint · 10/11/2015 09:24

Just found this advice on the website:

Dress for dinner

If you’re off to dinner choose a stylish dress and smart jacket or cardigan.

For the gentleman, chinos and a smart short-sleeved shirt and jacket are just the ticket.

The height of glamour

Most, but not all, Saga cruises feature a couple of formal nights where it is impossible to overdress!

A glamorous long dress and sequined shrug or pashmina are perfect partners for an elegant champagne dinner.

And a tuxedo and bow-tie are the ultimate in sophistication (although a dark suit or dinner jacket would also be just fine!).

I haven't got any glamorous long dresses or sequined shrugs! And DH if he comes definitely hasn't got a tuxedo and bow-tie though I would love to see him in oneGrin
