BTM - yes absolutely, we are older, wiser and more resolute! Also grumpy old women Grin.

Beachy - hope all is well at work. Hats off to you for hosting 14 year old boys, you have way more courage than me.

DD2 showed us pictures of her party last night where she has tears of blood - very scary looking.

bigTillyMint · 31/10/2015 18:15

WTF? Prince Harry has a beard? Didn't think he was a hipster!

I love Prince Harry's beard.

Thanks, Crepeys, you're making me all welly up. No tablets as yet but I think I would like some.... I think I'm just massively hormonal and very shouty at the moment, which is quite miserable actually.... I think half term has finished me off. And I will have twenty new parents to meet shortly as they drop their big strapping Tarquin's off. I'll meet them outside in the dark otherwise, with the red eyes and sniffy nose, they really won't think I'm a responsible adult

At work I have one person who reports to me and she's somewhat of a managerial challenge (polite way of saying it).... the sort of person who is told not to access certain bits of data, then finds a way of accessing it anyway and then tells everyone I knew she was and I was OK with it. Massively exhausting and potentially quite damaging. It's like having a big miserable, teething toddler, who can bamboozle you with IT Grin

Did someone mention a Crepey bunker?

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/10/2015 18:28

Loving the dressed up dog, Molly!

Neighbour is back. SadSadSad

DD2 called me about half an hour after we went out and asked very politely if it was too late to join us. So she met us for lunch and got on great with my friend's daughter. ConfusedHmm We also bumped into my naice young assistant from Paris on the South Bank, who has moved back to London.

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/10/2015 18:29

Ambulance back outside again...

bigTillyMint · 31/10/2015 18:31

MollyGrin

Awww Beachy, I can recommend both BP meds and HRT!

And we'll done you meeting parents too - DS won't even say whose party it is! I have a sneaky feeling it is a girl from primary school, given the address!

NUFC69 · 31/10/2015 18:37

Grin at dog, Colly!

MrsS, fingers crossed for you, it will be such a relief for you if he goes into care (and better for him, too). Beachy, you are a mother beyond compare. Rose, so pleased for DS (rooting for Newcastle here). It's a wonderful city (as Hatty would also tell you).

We have just got back from the football and had our first (perhaps only trick or treater), DGD1 dressed as a skeleton plus a pink tutu!

hattymattie · 31/10/2015 18:40

Blimey Mrs S - totally dramatic chez vous. Glad you had a nice day out in the end though and DD2 redeemed herself.

Loved my time at Newcastle - although on a recent visit Percy Street has changed beyond all recognition. Glad they've done nothing to Grey Street.

Love the idea of a skeleton in a pink tutu Grin

bigTillyMint · 31/10/2015 18:49

Oh God MrsS - what's going on? Glad your DD2 changed her mind too.

No TorT's here - could it be because I haven't put a pumpkin out? I'm sure the teens will eat the sweeties!

wordassociationfootball · 31/10/2015 19:16

Sitting in car at Tesco snarfing a gf mince pie (well done/damn you Tesco)

The dds got themselves looking suitably horrible and skipped out t or t-ing. I love having older kids...

wordassociationfootball · 31/10/2015 19:20

Bless your dawgee colly!

Where is CV?

Rosebag · 31/10/2015 19:25

Grin at Spookdoggy.

DD happily delivered to friends party suitable dressed as Elphaba (again) after her rehearsal into which I snuck at 5 and that was nice. Real thing is at the V&A on Wed night in front of a bunch of monied toffs where me and DH sit like the token paupers....

Glad it worked out MrsS but the $6 million question ...does she get the jeans? What's with the ambulance....have the men in white coats finally arrived to cart away annoying neighbour for good?

Beachy Flowers Play the woman at her own game...jump up and down and say she was lying. (Which she was...) You are a saint to hold a party of 14 year olds...

DS loved Newcastle on is open day visit. We'll see...Lalsy I know what you mean. The whole UCAS experience is quite isolating in its way... DS is now packing for a four day choir retreat that he's off to tomorrow. He's just asked me what toiletries I think he needs...Confused

herbaceous · 31/10/2015 19:38

We are returned from T or T ing, though it just descended into our gang of small boys just barging I t houses and holding our their vessels for sweets, which is not an edifying sight. Then home to a lamb and chorizo pie, made by DP!

Mild pumpkins-carving triumph - a few visiting ToTers recognised it as Darth Vader.

bigTillyMint · 31/10/2015 19:40

Yes CV, where are you?

Well done Herbs!

Rose, who is Elphaba?

Rosebag · 31/10/2015 19:59

Elphaba

bigTillyMint · 31/10/2015 20:05

Oh dear just shows how much attention I paid - we saw Wicked about 6 years ago!

BeachysFlipFlops · 01/11/2015 00:05

Survived..... All teens gone home. Only one slightly drama llama girl, but no problems!

Dd1, who did a lot of checking and popping in to put food out etc, was a bit agog at the snogging taking place! Not by ds, I hasten to add..... Think she was a bit annoyed it wasn't her party.

herbaceous · 01/11/2015 10:32

Can I have a soothing crepey stroke? I'm freaking out a trifle about tomorrow. First ever paid teaching job, and flapping about how to fill 2.5 hours. Apart from letting them have a massively long break.

So far: ask each other five questions, note down answers, plan their writing, write paragraphs re their neighbour. Feedback. Go over punctuation, conjunctions, how could we improve them, etc. Revise punctuation, conjunctions, etc with worksheet. BREAK. Hand back homework. Go over common errors. Ask them what they have learned so far on course, what they're unsure about, what they would like to learn. Fly by seat of pants.

Shortly off to Selfridges with DS and his BFF for some 'Padawan Training'. Plus possibly nosy about to see what I might like for my birthday. Mmmm...

NUFC69 · 01/11/2015 10:43

Well the only teaching I did was years ago (and was secretariat subjects), Herbs, but that sounds really good to me. You will be fine, you are an awesome Crepey, don't forget, with all the experience and expertise of all of us behind you. Thanks

Glorious day here, just prepping Sunday lunch as DS and his family are all coming: roast pork, apple sauce, numerous vegetables, followed by apricot brioche tart and ice cream. Am trying not to eat the sweets which we bought for Hallowe'en - only the one visitor.

bigTillyMint · 01/11/2015 10:54

Massively long breaks are good, HerbsWink!

Plan loads - what you've got sounds fine - you probably won't be able to cover it all and then you can use the leftover bit as a starting point for your next lesson. Or go in a different direction for the next lesson if you spot something else that's more important IYSWIM?

You will be great - just remember all your positive feedback from TP's.

WTF is Padawan Training?

NU, that sounds delish - wish I was coming! I am off cooking ATM - just CBASad

All quiet here - DS still in bed, DD at friends. Might go and watch DS play footy in the fog!

herbaceous · 01/11/2015 11:02

Thanks BTM. I just worry it's a bit too freeform, and as I don't know the learners at all, I won't look very authoritative. My next lesson will be what I planned for the interview - a comprehension lesson all about Guy Fawkes night! With homophone spelling mistakes to spot. Lesson after that will be about homophones! I'm hoping that by that stage I"ll have tracked down a scheme of work and some more resources and everything will start to make more sense.

Padawan training is Star Wars based. Training to be Jedis, or some such.

DP has made a pumpkin cheesecake. Judging by the ingredients, it will be richest foodstuff known to man.

bigTillyMint · 01/11/2015 11:20

Herbs, my first lessons with new pupils are all about finding out about them - assessing where their learning is at, getting to know how they function as learners and how to engage them. Don't worry too much about the content initially - as long as it is fairly interesting, they will be learning something and you can see how they are doing and how to pitch the next lesson IYSWIM.

Ah. Neither of mine are into any of that sort of stuff, so I haven't a clue!

Pumpkin cheesecake sounds good. DD and I shared a slice of chocolate fudgecake cheesecake from Juniors in Brooklyn which was so rich we couldn't finish it, and that is saying something!

herbaceous · 01/11/2015 11:26

Indeed, BTM, getting to know them is my aim, via my highly engaging topics! The questions they will ask each other include 'what would you like to do', 'what are you doing at the weekend', etc.

Right. Enough angsting. I get so panicked I can't see straight, even though logically I know it will be fine, I'm a teacher, I know my onions, etc etc.

In barely S&B news, I'm wondering about asking for this cosy wondrousness for my birthday. Mmmm.

bigTillyMint · 01/11/2015 11:45

Which one Herbs,?I quite like the red tartan one. Some of the others look like something my DM would wearGrin
