New Winter Coat!

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 14:55

I haven't bought a new coat for 5 years and am thinking of pushing the boat out and going for it! However as this is a big purchase, I need to get it right as I want something that will stand the test of time. I was wondering about either of these coats and would be grateful for your opinions or suggestions!! www.whistles.com/women/clothing/coats-jackets/maggie-overcoat-20493.html?dwvar_maggie-overcoat-20493_color=Navy#prefn1=subCategory&prefv1=Coats+and+Jackets&start=1 OR [[https://www.whistles.com/women/clothing/coats-jackets/emma-double-breasted-coat-20484.html?dwvar_emma-double-breasted-coat-20484_color=Dark%20Grey#prefn1=subCategory&prefv1=Coats+and+Jackets&start=1]]

I need something that is practical for both work and casual and as I walk to work every day I want it to be warm and offer good coverage!

I like the grey better, i like more shaped contoured clothing though.

honeylou42 · 05/10/2015 15:55

Love the navy best Smile

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 16:39

Hmm. I think I might like the navy best. But the grey I also love - and it's cheaper! Especially with the code. I'm 5 ft 6 and slim, perhaps the contoured fit might be better?

I find that any cost that doesn't gave fastenings round the neck lets in the cold. I'm not keen on low fastening costs for that reason.

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 16:58

Orangeanddemons, a good point which had crossed my mind. This may be another contender although it's a bit shorter www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0215-3291-3893L00&productvarid=0215-3291-3893L00-BLACK-14&refpage=coats-jackets

I like the Hobbs one best

Magicrealism · 05/10/2015 18:06

My favourite is the navy.

Still searching! Liking this Zara one now …

I really like the grey Whistles one - I have a tweedy Whistles coat and the quality/warmth is far better than other coats I have from places like Zara and ASOS. I agree about open necks potentially being chilly, but a high neck means a scarf can feel like it's strangling you underneath. I'd go for the open neck with a big cosy scarf.

goodgollymisspolly · 05/10/2015 20:24

The Hobbs coat gets my vote - it's gorgeous and the things I have bought there over the years have always lasted really well.

Pixi2 · 05/10/2015 20:31

I like the Hobbs one best.

Lucked · 05/10/2015 20:37

I have been looking for a coat like the navy whistles one but I don't like the flap pockets, if they were patch it would be perfect.

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 20:40

I agree, I had a lovely Hobbs coat that lasted for years and years, the quality is good. I might go for the Whistles grey one - mainly because of the length of it and also the discount …! I love the Zara coats but they may not last as long and as this is a lot of money to pay out (for me, anyway!) - the coat needs to last me a good few years ...

My vote goes to Hobbs.

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 20:43

I wonder if Hobbs will do a 20% discount any time soon!

Ridingthegravytrain · 05/10/2015 20:44

Possibly not the quality you're after but I recently bought this (for 32 during their 25%off bargain!) and it's warm and comfortable and rely smart

Ridingthegravytrain · 05/10/2015 20:44

Really

Lucked · 05/10/2015 20:45

This is the Reiss one I am considering but I am not sure it is heavy enough. I got a coat from Reiss about 7 years ago and it lasted so well but it is now well and truly done.

nilbyname · 05/10/2015 20:45

The navy one from whistles is the nicest.

Windowbasket · 05/10/2015 20:47

Both gorgeous coats. I love the Sainsbury's one! I would prefer wool, that's the only one. And as for the Reiss one … swoon!!!

OP posts:
nilbyname · 05/10/2015 20:48

The collar on the Hobbs one is quite naff. Bit m and s.
Sorry.

Orangeanddemons · 06/10/2015 08:33

[https://www.poetryfashion.co.uk/product-VE41-POEHW/midwinter/printed-silk-and-jersey-top.htm this]] is rather beautiful. Has a low front though.

Orangeanddemons · 06/10/2015 08:35

Arrgh wrong link I mean this

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 06/10/2015 16:16

Love the first navy one!
Also the Pure grey coat Orange has just posted!

I've just bought a whistles parka (is that how you spell it?!)
So going to get a mid price Zara smarter cost and then splash out on a decent smart coat next year.

Coat shopping is tough!
