I'm a ball on sticks. What can I wear?

I probably shouldnt be posting here as I'm most definitely neither stylish nor beautiful, but maybe someone can help.
I am very fat, but I'm losing weight, in the last 5 months I've lost over 6 stone and I'm now a very very odd shape.
My legs are almost thin, I have no bum whatsoever, all my weight is now on my stomach and lower stomach.
Basically I look like a lemon on cocktail sticks.
My boobs have vanished :(
I think I'm around a size 20 bottom, 26-28 top. I realise this is still massive but bear in mind I was size 34-36 top and around 26-28 bottom.
I'm living in leggings and tunic tops or my husbands North Face hoodie, but I want to buy some proper clothes.
Hopefully I won't need them for very long as I'm still shrinking and I know I'll have to buy from the fat lady shops.
But what I really want to ask is, what shapes should I be looking for? I need to cover my gut, I have a horrible 'front bum' effect which means I have to wear long tops but I find anything that's tight at the bottom makes me look even more like a ball on sticks.
Most of my tops are like short dresses, gathered under my vastly diminished bust and flaring out, but that's very boring and just screams 'fat lady clothes'.
What kind of thing should I look for? Shirts? Dresses?
I recently bought some skinny jeans (sainsburys!) which fit but would I be better in bootcut to balance me out a bit?
Basically, how does one dress a ball on legs?

Amazing weight loss! Well done.

I am a similar shape. Size 16 on bottom, 18-20 on top and agree it is very difficult to find flattering things.

I wear skinny jeans. It took me a while to come round to the idea but they look good.

I also find a soft blazer type jacket looks good. this type

It looks neater and more put together than the long cardigans I used to wear.

Germgirl · 27/09/2015 19:01

That's nice! Thank you. What would I wear under it though? I do wear long vests with long cardigans but I think they're a bit too long, I have to have things which go down to well below my hips though, to cover the hanging gut! I'm a truly hideous shape.
I've been wearing skinny jeans, long vest, long cardi and interesting scarf and I do like that look but because the legs are so skinny in comparison to the rest I wonder if it just looks silly?

I've been wearing simple v neck t-shirt style tops under jackets. Tops are difficult for me because I am short and anything too long makes my proportions all wrong. What height are you?

I would definitely say go with the shortest top you feel comfortable in.

magicpuppy · 27/09/2015 19:21

Have a look at these blogs daniellevarnier.co.uk and mrsbebeblog.co.uk. Both plus size women who look great.

Please don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing such an amazing thing.

mayum1 · 27/09/2015 23:54

I'm your shape. I'm around 14-16 on top, 12 on bottom. I used to be around 20 on top, 16 bottom.

I didn't like skinny jeans at first but warmed up to it eventually. But still I think the best for me are boyfriend jeans with plain tops (round-neck for me - I have small boobs despite having a plump upper body). I've bought a couple of flared and bootcuts too since they're back in fashion and they work on my shape really well too.

Horrible on me: Flowy tunic-y things with leggings. Any loose, huge tops really.

Germgirl · 28/09/2015 07:11

Thank you everyone. I'm 5'6" so about average height, I ordered a couple of long sleeve t shirts, they're about as short as I dare to go & I wouldn't wear them without something over the top, one is scoop neck, one v neck, they're only cheapies from Yours. I'll see what they look like when they arrive.
I've always been top heavy but now there's a huge difference between my top & bottom. I have no bum at all, when I sit down it hurts because I'm sitting on bones!
I wish I could transplant some flab from my front bum to the back.
I tried a pair of 'boyfriend' jeans but they just looked awful, I looked like a sack of spuds. I think I need jeans that are at least fitted on the thighs, I might try a pair of bootcut.
I will look at those blogs, thank you. I have looked at a few 'plus size' bloggers but they're all such a different shape to me, they tend to be exaggerated hourglass shapes whereas I'm the complete opposite, no waist, no bum, a total apple!

Boyfriend jeans look awful on me too. They seem to accentuate my tummy.

I think bootcut can look well but I only like them if they are narrow on the thigh.

I have these in a different colour and always feel good wearing them.
jeans.

I find Next jeans to be a generous fit so you may need to size down to get a flattering fit.

Germgirl · 28/09/2015 11:26

I didn't realise Next jeans went up to my size! I've spent so many years shopping in about 3 shops that I don't know which 'normal' shops do bigger sizes. I thought near enough every shop stopped at about size 16/18.
Those jeans do look nice. I may try a pair of bootcuts.

Matalan do some fantastic £4 long vests, that look great layered under shorter tops.

mayum1 · 28/09/2015 21:22

extralargeaslife.com/

Same shape (apple) but she's shorter (I thnk) and in Australia.

Defenderwife · 28/09/2015 21:57

I think dresses would be ideal. Perfect weather to dress them up with tights and a cardigan if needed. This sort of shape will suit you well

Don't be afraid of prints. Go for bold big patterns rather than small detailed ones. ASOS curve range is excellent and a great price and free returns! Hurrah!

Well done on the weight loss Grin

Germgirl · 29/09/2015 05:37

Thank you all so much! :) I've always shied away from dresses but I will try them again. The only ones I had were maxi dresses but they just make me look huge now. Well, I am huge, but they make it worse.
I'll try a different shape.

mayum1 · 29/09/2015 09:19

Germgirl - no to maxi and wrap-around. Look for skater, fit-n-flare :)

Khalessi · 29/09/2015 10:47

I'm a similar shape to you but with big boobs, 28 on top and 24/26 bottoms and I love buying clothes. I tend to wear long tops with skinny jeans/ leggings as my legs are reasonably shapely. I also wear viscose harems which are quite flowing with long cardigans.
Play around with clothes, look at fashion blogs as already mentioned and enjoy it. Yours clothing often has some reasonable bits in.
Well done on your weight loss journey!

Germgirl · 02/10/2015 20:15

Are any of these any good?

fat lady dress one
fat lady dress two
fat lady dress three

OP posts:
Germgirl · 02/10/2015 20:20

Or this? The description says good for people with tiny waists. I haven't got a waist at all!
Very dress

OP posts:
Khalessi · 02/10/2015 20:29

I love dress one, three and the Very dress. Happy shopping!

mayum1 · 02/10/2015 21:08

I won't wear dress 1 because it will emphasise the tummy. The others are fine, but try getting a dress above your knee to show off those killer legs ;)

I like one and three germ girl. I think dresses hide a multitude of sins . I wear them all and I mean all the time.

QuidditchTonedThighs · 02/10/2015 23:01

I am an apple with skinny legs and I wear dresses that are fitted around the bust and then flare out to the knee. They look best with knee or calf length boots to widen my skinny legs a little, or I wear narrow (but not skinny) jeans underneath. I like a tapered leg, gathered or rolled up at the bottom.

I also wear tunic tops /dresses but i belt them and leave some baggy material loose around the stomach. Again with tailored trousers or narrow jeans (not skinnies or leggings). Or an above the knee length skirt with boots, with a belted tunic on top. It hides a lot but gives you some shape, not like a sack.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new sleeker shape!

QuidditchTonedThighs · 02/10/2015 23:04

P.s. none of those dresses would suit me. I am a size 12-14. The waistline would look terrible with my thick middle and the length is too short for my skinny legs.

MustTidyUpMustTidyUp · 02/10/2015 23:04

Skinny jeans to show off your lovely legs but team it with quite chunky boots - knee highs probably (although I know these are less fashionable than they were) because they will balance you out a bit so not so parsnippy. Long vest top but not too long, as short as you can get away with that covers your tummy but short enough to to show as much length in your legs. And tight to the top of your legs. Top over the top loose but not baggy. Plain colour not patterned as will look top half look bigger. Stick with navy /black /dark green /burgundy etc Scarf good idea and can bring colour or pattern that way. Make most of face and hair and I love a pair of big hoop earrings but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea ;-)
All trying to balance and detract from middle area, but without going big all over. Is avoid tunics until you lose some more weight esp the ones that gather under the boobs. When you can go with straight rather than fitted there. I think dresses are very hard to do with an apple unless big boobs too.
Well done on your weight loss. 6 stone is amazing. Smile
