Boden icons, I am not getting it

Just looked at the Boden Icons collection, icons

I am really not getting it. It seems to have copied bits of M&S Spring/summer autograph collection, with a few sub-Zara military bits for four times the price. A couple of the coats look ok, but very expensive.

I was really interested to see what they would come up with, but this is a huge disappointment.

I'm not sure who they are aiming at. Very odd. And, doesn't the photographer like the model?! Confused

RoobyTuesday · 22/09/2015 18:29

Yep can't imagine who would actually wear that stuff irl. I just don't understand who they think their market is.

WanderingTrolley1 · 22/09/2015 18:32

It is all truly hideous.

BikeRunSki · 22/09/2015 18:44

I think they are trying to make themselves a premium brand, which aren't really. They seem to fancy themselves as Ralph Lauren-ish.

OldPossum · 22/09/2015 18:53

...... taxi for Possum

Lambzig · 22/09/2015 19:33

I think the styling is a bit Finery, the clothes a bit Autograph six months ago and the prices, gosh!

Yes the denim skirt is ok, but if you had wanted a 70s style button through denim or suede skirt you would have gone to M&S six months ago.

The boho-ish dress has been done better by Monsson and Zara for less than half the price and the military stuff feels a bit old hat.

I like the coats, but they would have to be amazing fabric for me to spend that much money on a Boden label.

It will be interesting to see if it's a sell-out.

The media has raved about it- big feature in either the Telegraph or Times last week.

FrenchPlaits · 22/09/2015 19:52

One of the coats is a nice shape, although not in 'my colours'

The rest is like an Autograph/Per Una M&S mash-up. Most strange Grin.

lotrben17 · 22/09/2015 19:58

I love boden quite possibly far too much and was excited to see it - but awful, awful. Also wouldn't wear it if it were free...

iMatter · 22/09/2015 20:11

I just don't get Boden at all. I've tried but to no avail.

It reminds of the shouty helicopter parent school mums who squeeze into showerproof coats in a size 14 when they are at least one size bigger. They are generally married to skinny blokes called Hugh who run a lot.

Notoedike · 22/09/2015 20:14

Not at all good. Sadly.

ohmyeyebettymartin · 22/09/2015 20:27

I think the photographer might be Karen Elson's sister.

Has she got a grudge against her?

DinosaursRoar · 22/09/2015 20:53

I own a lot of Boden, but this year, i'm just not feeling it's worth it, and this collection really isn't changing that, if anything, I'm not even thinking "hmm, if that goes in the sale I might get it" nothing that would even be worth it if they put it at 60% off.

DinosaursRoar · 22/09/2015 20:56

OldPossum - Button through denim A line skirt for £28 at M&S - and I saw a nice A line midi denim skirt in Warehouse today. Really, Boden can be more expensive than places like M&S, but if you are going for more than 3 times the price, you've got to be delivering amazing quality and style, I can't see how much more quality you can add to a denim A line skirt and it doesn't look a particularly more stylish version.

pinkfrocks · 22/09/2015 21:03

My mum had a skirt like that about 40 years ago- wish she'd kept it!

OldPossum · 22/09/2015 21:18

Dinosaurs - love the skirt but too short. The hunt continues........

PrimalLass · 23/09/2015 09:57

I like the black coat, but not for £250.

BoldFox · 23/09/2015 10:10

yeh, saw one nice coat but if I spent that much on a coat, I wouldn't want it to be from boden

Twinklestein · 23/09/2015 10:28

Good God.

Emrel · 24/09/2015 12:36

I don't get it, if there are only 100 items (per size I would assume), how come the stock levels fluctuate so badly? Sizes are sold out then low stock an hour or so later.
I bet they made more than a 100 per item and are selling a "limited" edition range that perhaps is not so limited after all?

BrendaandEddie · 24/09/2015 13:08

Needless to say the sycophantic bloggers love it

verenti · 24/09/2015 13:33

They will all be ebaying their freebies after a couple of weeks!

Frostycake · 24/09/2015 14:09

Oh dear. they've alienated their core market in one fell swoop. Like somebody said up-thread, they're trying to be directional and failing miserably

I think they're so expensive so that they can run a sale in a couple of weeks with 15%/20% off like all the other retailers do. It seems to be a thing. Very expensive but with an automatic discount thrown in. trying to make out you're getting a bargain.

Must be part of their strategy along with opening loads of high street shops. They've had enough of the mummy pound and now they're after the architect pound.

verenti · 24/09/2015 16:39

Boden are a bit like Gap, nobody ever buys it at full price as there is always a discount code floating around.

OldPossum · 24/09/2015 16:42

Brenda - which bloggers are waxing lyrical?
