My capsule wardrobe quest - chelsea boots

For lots of reasons we're facing a couple of years of way less disposable cash that we're used to so while the going is good I am getting sorted for the next two years!

I need pair of chelsea boots that will work with jeans for weekends and work under trousers, black, with a small block heel. Critically they must be able to be re-heeled as I wear one side of my heels heavily. I like the very classically styled ones, but am open to something a little less boring.

For the right boots, I can shell out up to £100, but would be happier if they were £60 or so ... Anyone up for the challenge of helping me?

I got a nice pair in Office for £70, that sound like they'd fit the bill. I'm on my phone so can't link. Sorry.

Whatabout · 18/09/2015 21:35

m.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-chelsea-ankle-boots-black/p1947711 I am after some too and can't decide whether these are any good.

travailtotravel · 18/09/2015 21:41

I'm scooting round office at the moment - I now want a red pair. but I have to be sensible....

They look nice whatabout but I've never had any JL shoes, so have no idea about quality ...you'd think they'd be good but who can tell?

GoldPlatedShitGibbon · 18/09/2015 21:42

DD had some JL sandals this year and they were awful.

JillBYeats · 18/09/2015 21:43

Marks and Spencer have these ones which are very neat on and great value - although not leather but my are wearing well so far and I am usually hard on shoes.

southeastastra · 18/09/2015 21:46

really like the \link{http://www.johnlewis.com/dune-peppie-chelsea-boot/p2155347?colour=Burgundy%20Leather\dune} boots. i want \link{http://www.johnlewis.com/dune-parrys-block-heeled-chelsea-boots/p2069296?colour=Navy%20Suede\these blue ones}!

MyBoysAreFab · 18/09/2015 21:51

Oh god those first Dune boots are gorgeous.

Whatabout · 18/09/2015 21:57

SEP15EM for 20% off marks and spencer this weekend.

tkband3 · 18/09/2015 21:58

I've been after some Chelsea boots for ages and have just bought these from White Stuff (I was lucky to get them with a 20% discount yesterday). I really like them as the contrasting colour on the elastic just makes them a little less bland.

They're my second pair of White Stuff boots - I got the first pair two years ago and they're still going strong..very comfortable and hard-wearing.

Pippin8 · 18/09/2015 22:33

I've got these m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-hope-mid-heel-chelsea-boots/p1947732?colour=Black&un_jtt_v_pdp=yes&un_jtt_v_from_product=un_product_66#page_loaded & they are really good quality, stylish & comfortable. I love them!

amarmai · 18/09/2015 22:39

op i have discovered that i can wear men's chelsea boots and they are better quality for less money than women's. And if you have small feet maybe look at the larger children's sizes.

travailtotravel · 18/09/2015 22:53

Oh how fab. Sorry for the delay in replying. My PC decided to upgrade to Windows10. Bah.

I'm into town for something else tomorrow so i'll check out the Marks ones (love the blue) and look at Office, and I'm totally going to check out the White Stuff ...

I really like the Gap ones. The only thing stopping me buying them is that I cannot bring myself to pay full price in Gap, and the current codes exclude leather goods.

amarmai · 19/09/2015 18:30

Top Shop has amazing chelsea boots.

BigGreenOlives · 19/09/2015 18:33

Dd bought a black suede pair in H&M. £25.

maybemyrtle · 19/09/2015 19:20

Yes! Thanks nottheOP those are the ones I want. Couldn't link as on phone. Aren't they lovely.

travailtotravel · 20/09/2015 00:53

Ooh they are lovely. I am conflicted.

OP posts:
Zame · 20/09/2015 08:00

I got a lovely pair for about £25 in new look, also saw an identical pair in primark but I doubt they'd last long

Zame · 20/09/2015 08:03

m.newlook.com/shop/shoe-gallery/view-all-boots/black-leather-comfort-block-heel-chelsea-boots-_352302101 Bit like this, loads of gorgeous boots in new look. I'm going to have to buy more now

MarjorySunshineDust · 20/09/2015 08:17

I got the White Stuff ones last week and am really pleased with them. So comfy and I like the grey elastic.

louloubelle2 · 20/09/2015 08:59

Honesty, if you need these boots to last for a few years, then forget White Stuff, M&S, etc, its unlikely you'll be able to re-heel as they will probably have a rubber, glued sole and those shops are not shoe specialists, they will be made for fashion not longevity.

H by Hudson are a great shoe maker, the soles are always leather and stitched to the shoe, and will definitely last. Looks like this year their chelsea boots are £130, but they are nearly always available new on eBay for less.

The Dune ones look the best to me from those above.

Lots of chelsea boots this year also have a higher block heel but that is very trend led so don't be seduced. Go for a classic low block heel if possible.

travailtotravel · 20/09/2015 10:59

Thanks. I am going to a different city next week that's 'posh', so am going to take advice from upthread about trying men's out .... I have wide feet so that may be a good fit anyway. I'll then make a choice. I do have to be sensible here sadly though I luffs all the colour and options. Thanks

These Clarks ones are mega comfy and reasonable. They stay looking good, too.
