Anything but the C-word!

OP posts:
Rosebag · 07/10/2015 08:49

Ah yes MrsS…I call that the inverted royal "we"….it means what have you done with….blah blah… I also get "Can we try and…" Grin Angry

Thanks laydeez…I have obviously caught DD and DH's cold but it's mutated so I have a raging (and I mean raging) sore throat…can't swallow, bit of a fever and a headache.…I haven't had a cold for simply ages. I have bailed on a lovely breakfast with my lovely neighbours and a girls meal out tonight. Why is it always the nice things….

I am going back to bed although may bring the duvet down and watch Netflix on the sofa I am going to make klops for supper, MrsS as its an all in one, virtually and just sits in the oven. i would suggest DH takes the DC out but then a) I wont get any supper and b) we've done nothing but eat out since Friday…..

BD If your colleague is going to get offered a position, does that make things a little better for you? I hope so.

Monty have you sorted the pickups? It's awful when you put out a cry for help and no one replies. Close friends and me had a Whatsapp group for that purpose, although it doesn't get used much now the DC are older.

Rudy That sounds really tough. Flowers "Premier Inn"

Good luck today MI I will not send germs from N14.

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2015 09:09

A day on the sofa sounds perfect Rose. What about them cooking their own dinner with stuff out of the freezer?

I am in a little deli cafe with 2 men having a very important conversation about their jobs in jargon and meaningless blue - sky type phrases. Loudly.

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2015 09:12

"If you can do that we'll get some more colour on their project"
"We can hit them over the head with that"
" it's all about accelerating what's going on and getting the show on the road before Christmas"

WTF?

Cremo · 07/10/2015 09:51

Oh Rose poor you. My recommendation is Ribera ice cubes for raw throat. Make up Ribera as normal ( or indeed any squash) and make ice cubes. Suck for sore throat. I know , I know, Cremo, you art weird.Hmm
I too have the lurg, but not badly. Will be meeting dsis this am in newish Aussie deli caff which also serves flaky creamy caramelly custard tarts and friands in various tempting varieties. I may test.

Rudy you are in line for a sainthood. A month would finish me off. Can you develop a debilitating disease that means lying In bed with Mumsnet for long periods? An evening with foreign family would be enough for me, especially the American ones.Confused

Mi hope teaching is satisfying today and goes swimmingly.

I am trying to use my remaining leave as creatively as possible for the next few months. Spoke to my friend and colleagues yesterday and she is also trying quietly to jump ship. It would be easier for me if I could work full time, but I just can't /do not want to because of health issues ( pain being one these) I am trying to accept that the leg and back pain may well be ongoing, which is very hard. And I have had an endocrinologist scare the shit out of me regarding life expectancy and type one diabetes)
Too much to deal with atm. And work just makes me so unhappy. Ffs. I need a good laugh.Sad

Blackduck · 07/10/2015 09:52

Bullshit Bingo BTM..... we used to play it in meetings....

Rose - it only improves things in that I won't feel so guilty that I failed to save her job.....

Auriga · 07/10/2015 11:48

Sorry you're ill Rose. Hope you manage an easier day.

Went to a short story reading last night, as a friend is one of the authors. The stories were read by (excellent) actors & were delightful, varied and entertaining. Reminded me how much I love being read to. It's a regular thing, apparently, called Liars' League; might be a good night out for us some time. in fact some of you might like to contribute stories. Prosecco was available Smile

Finally flipped yesterday over DH's birthday, when he still had not given me a single e-mail address. And have booked lots of the family coming for Mum's birthday into the Travelodge, including those with dogs. Have sent them all the booking confirmations to underline the point. From now on my involvement will be 'light touch'.

NUFC69 · 07/10/2015 12:47

I spent a lot of time this morning writing a long, commiserating reply, only to discover that a) it hadn't sent, and b) it had disappeared. Sorry for all the ill Crepeys.

I am sat in the hotel restaurant because it is raining, yes, raining. We have managed a swim in the sea and I have done my obligatory 20 odd laps of the pool. We went to the northern part of Cyprus yesterday which made me feel uneasy.

Only two more full days after today and then the flight home. I don't think I said, we were delayed for eight (8, viii) hours coming out and eventually got to our room at 1 am. I am not looking forward to the flight on the ancient Lithuanian plane which Thomas Cook foisted on us on our way out. However the word "compensation" has been mentioned. We'll see ....

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2015 12:56

Cremo, that sounds awful. Poor you. I wish you were over here to go out for a drink and a laugh.

Auriga, full marks on the bookings front!

NU, definitely try for compensation.

The famous person I walked past in the park this morning was Greg Davies - actually better looking in RL!

Lalsy · 07/10/2015 14:07

Crem, you poor love. I think putting your health first is essential, you have a lot to carry Flowers.

And Rose, hope you feel much better, sod family dinner (invisible people cannot cook).

NU, hope your journey back is smoother.

Blackduck · 07/10/2015 15:04

Cremo.... I know the feeling and so sorry for all of it....

I am hanging by a thread and I am very aware of that fact. I have stopped drinking as I know it doesn't help. I feel the slightest thing could push me over.

Rose - true - invisible people can't cook.....

Cremo · 07/10/2015 15:54

Thanks All, and BD 'hanging by a thread' is exactly right. It can't be right to be in work and know that if anyone pushes your buttons you might cry instead of 'sticking it to the man'.

Quick quiz. Applied or an ad on Freecycle for an old Kitchenaid mixer. The lady replied to say, yes I can have it. I said I had a car and could come anytime. She the admitted she was I. Scotland and would be happy to courier it for £30. So do I do it or not? Can't get a reply from the moderator and honestly think £30 isn't bad fora heavy thing like a Kitchenaid. Just something worries me. Would you?

motherinferior · 07/10/2015 16:49

I think you've got enough to worry about at the moment so just back away now.

This teaching lark is v tiring and I'm sure I made an arse of myself.

Rosebag · 07/10/2015 17:33

I am somewhat cheered by DD having brought home a beautiful freshly baked olive and onion focaccia from GCSE food tech class. She has also given me a foot massage but I won't post a picture of that.

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Crepes in this petty pace from day to day
Rosebag · 07/10/2015 17:38

Cremo sweetie…what can we do to cheer you up. So sorry that work is such an atrocious sitch. At least by coming on here you know you're not alone. Thanks for the tip…ice really helped this morning. Not sure about the mixer….I guess it depends how much you want one? A good one is worth 100's no?

MI you are not an arse. No ma'am.

Rosebag · 07/10/2015 17:40

DH has offered to take DD to the station tomorrow so I can get a bit of a lie in. It's the best I'll get I think and have to be grateful...

CointreauVersial · 07/10/2015 17:40

I just popped into the village pharmacy to restock with Lemsip and Soothers (see above) and the pharmacist asked if I'd considered the free flu jab. As you have to be either a) over 65, b) pregnant, or c) chronically ill to qualify, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm hoping she thought I was the latter. Hmm

OP posts:
Rosebag · 07/10/2015 17:43

Oh CV you as well. I get a free jab on the basis of having had chemo in the past…but I wouldn't say I was chronically ill…thank god I'm a way off 65, and pregnant? Perish the thought… Grin

bigTillyMint · 07/10/2015 17:51

Mmm, Rose, that looks yummy!

Cremo, I think I would (sadly) back away. Is it the Freecycle for your area? Why would she put it on there if she lives in Scotland?

BD, that sounds tough - no drinking - you must be feeling badSad

Here DS came back all full of having been put on "Y6 tours" for the first time everSmile

Cremo · 07/10/2015 18:00

Yeh, s'pose.

Auriga · 07/10/2015 18:47

Ah, Crem, it's a shame but she doesn't sound on the level. Sorry you're having such a wretched time, and BD too. It was so lovely to see you the other week, wish we could do it more often.

Ward round time.

  1. All sick Crepeys please get in to bed, lie tidily with arms folded and wait for sustenance, succour and entertainment to be brought to you as Sister deems apropriate.
  2. Sister will be Very Annoyed if you exert yourself in the cooking, cleaning or child-wrangling department while you are on the sick list. Or, of course, the paid work department.
  3. Whilst on the sick list you are Sister's responsibility and she has to answer to Matron. You do not want to upset her. Please pass on her instructions to your dependants, co-defendants etc.
  4. If Sister is satisfied with your progress & feels you have been fed, watered and entertained as appropriate, she may allow you to get up for a bubble bath or similar convalescent treat. Please apply in writing in time for next ward round.
  5. if Sister is not satisfied she may threaten to set the Doctor on you Shock

Hope all that is clear Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/10/2015 19:01

Rose and Crem, you need chicken soup. My mother ALWAYS has chicken soup in the fridge or freezer. Mine is not as good.

A very close friend of mine has taken early retirement and today was his last day in the office. We have always emailed every day, for years and years and years. I feel tearful and bereft. Please tell me to get a grip - we will now be in the same country and living three miles apart, so likely to see more of each other, but it feels like the end of an era. He sent me his last ever email from his office account today and I wanted to howl. I've known him for over 30 years. I think part of this is just bringing old age home to me.

herbaceous · 07/10/2015 19:08

Mrs S - that is proper sad, and you don't need to get a grip. It's the end of an era, and you're allowed to be upset.

Auriga - I shall follow your instructions to the letter. Is Bake Off watching allowed? And Dr Foster? Or could the excitement bring on an 'episode'?

I have had chicken soup for dinner. Admittedly out of a tin.

Auriga · 07/10/2015 19:35

Bake-Off is prescribed Herbs. You may need a family member to sit with you during Dr Foster in case the stress brings on urgent need of extra food, beverages, massage etc.

MrsS, hope you'll still see your DColleague.

herbaceous · 07/10/2015 19:45

DP will be on hand, but is much iller than me (mine is really only a sniffle) so cannot be relied on fully.

Such a bumper evening's viewing, I'm rather excited!

Rosebag · 07/10/2015 19:49

I am pleased that we have been written up for 'Bake off'…otherwise I might have to watch it sneakily when Sister's back is turned, like creeping out of the ward for a quick ciggie. Grin Auriga

I agree with the medicinal power of chicken soup, not surprisingly. But somewhat more surprisingly, I don't make it that often. When I do, I make it in the pressure cooker…

Please no spoilers about Dr Foster as I might not watch til tomorrow…I'm intrigued to see how it ends and I like anything with Suranne Jones in. But I don't find the character quite believable, somehow…

I can kind of understand about the colleague, MrsS…it's different, even if you can continue see people out of the work setting, when they have been a fixture in the office for so long. Flowers
