Boden: coming to a high street near you!

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2015 09:15

I read the financial pages so you don't have to :)

Yesterday's Guardian reports that Boden are in a massive upswing just now, with profits ever rising.

They have plans to open high street stores in the UK as part of their expansion but are currently v tight lipped about location.

I'm in Edinburgh and I'm pretty certain they'll open here. Anybody else living in a Bodentastic town? Streets paved with ditsy print etc?

Northcote Road definitely. Bath would be good. I'm strangely excited because I like some of their stuff but don't do online shopping

Mumelie · 17/09/2015 11:59

BATH
please
I love Boden - it fits me - and I dislike online shopping (well the waiting)

Lj8893 · 17/09/2015 13:02

Has nobody suggested Salisbury yet?

bigbuttons · 17/09/2015 13:15

what makes Boden distinctive is the f patterns they choose to pair. Distinctive doesn't always work well though. Some of their stuff is revolting.

squoosh · 17/09/2015 13:17

The only Boden stuff I'd entertain are the items without a pattern.

OOAOML · 17/09/2015 13:21

I'm in Edinburgh too Morris I wonder if they will have a turf war with Joules? George Street could end up with two rival gangs of yummy mummies facing off - although on second thoughts they'll probably all be lured into Lakeland.

ExConstance · 17/09/2015 13:50

I think Bath too - has Toast and Brora + the usuals, maybe Oxford, perhaps Cheltenham

JeremyCorbynsVest · 17/09/2015 14:03

Marlborough & Bath both likely candidates. Salisbury too..?

JeremyCorbynsVest · 17/09/2015 14:08

BrendaandEddie - Grin @ Trowbridge!

NoMoreRenting · 17/09/2015 14:10

I think they will open where you find other similar stores such as Joules, FF, JoJo etc. So across the North I'd would think, Chester, Knutsford (possibly Wilmslow) York (possibly Harrogate) then places like Winchester, St Albans (or harpenden or Berko) and Tunbridge Wells. Bath, Guildford. I hope the shops stock Mini.

If they have any sense they'll have plotted the whereabouts of their regular customers.

NoMoreRenting · 17/09/2015 14:11

Oh and no doubt, Marlow.

Blowninonabreeze · 17/09/2015 14:11

the pricing in joules has increased significantly over the past 5 years, which coincides with its expansion on the high street.

Hope boden doesn't go down the same path

Verbena37 · 17/09/2015 14:12

Ooh, Peterborough would be fab.....to go with their forthcoming new sparkly Queensgate shopping centre. And Cambridge.

Verbena37 · 17/09/2015 14:13

Actually perhaps Stamford better than Peterborough.

OOAOML · 17/09/2015 14:21

I've not bought anything froom Joules - I've been in for a nosey every now and again but it just feels not me. Boden seems very pricey to me, although I suppose their basics are ok.

When DD was younger she had several really good quality Mini Boden skirts, but I think we only bought one new, the rest were second hand.

WoodleyPixie · 17/09/2015 14:23

The shop in Reading was a pop up shop. It wasn't an outlet. They did have a sale as it was there for about 6 months and over Christmas. Disappeared when the sales finished.
It was a lovely shop but funnily enough stopped my buying as much as I normally do. I got to take dd and look at the clothing and she would much rather want to get round to zara.
A concession in john Lewis would be a good idea. Small stands that sell good basics with a few store only items?

WoodleyPixie · 17/09/2015 14:24

And why oh why has York got so much better for shopping since I moved away. One of the attractions of moving back down south was better shopping and now when I go back to York, I cry over how much better the shopping is there now.

MorrisZapp · 17/09/2015 14:28

I think in Edinburgh they should move into not yet built yet St James shopping quarter.

Not sure how I feel about real life Boden shops. In a way, they will demystify the brand and show it for what it is - clothes on a hanger. I went to a Boden flash sale once in a smelly scout hall. It was weird seeing the actual clothes themselves, stripped of context.

amillionusernameslater · 17/09/2015 14:48

Pah Blackpool and Skegness I say. joking

Yes all the usual places for Joules, The White Company etc. The retail industry do all sorts of clever data things to work out where to open stores but if you want to be cheap and lazy, you just look at where your competitors are and seem to be successful.

Expect John Lewis would fall over backwards and summersault to get them in.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 17/09/2015 14:59

Agree, once visited Hangar Lane and never wore Boden again. Without the models and locations, it's vair vair ordinaire

JeremyCorbynsVest · 17/09/2015 15:03

Interesting point about shops demystifying the brand. Think they will be very savvy about the 'ambiance' regarding that.

The only thing which truly demystifies Boden IME is trying them on on your own impossibly lumpy body (in my case anyway) in front of your own dingy mirror with headboard still propped against wall (as DH is too lazy to affix it properly) in the background.

JaniceJoplin · 17/09/2015 15:09

It will be interesting to see if they maintain their 'never sell at full price' strategy that they seem to have online, if they move on to the high street. You can pretty much always get some sort of discount, by either searching for a code or via the latest catalogue that you have received. I think the White Company do the same. Well, last time I shopped their they said 'Was I a VIP'? and gave me 15% off straightaway for handing over my email address which they already had.

polyhymnia · 17/09/2015 15:23

Richmond I reckon - handy for me.

BrendaandEddie · 17/09/2015 16:01

Peterborough s a bit of a shit hole isn't it?

DonkeyOaty · 17/09/2015 16:03

Deffo Bath, Chester, Edinburgh, Cardiff but the posh bit not the scabby shopping centre. Oxford? Leeds maybe, Brum. London ofc.
