Do you buy two of the same thing?

If you really like it?

For example, two pairs of the same colour, same style of shoes?

I do this with jeans - have several identical pairs of Whistles skinnies - and also shoes because I have small, wide feet which are difficult. Things like dresses and tops I will buy the same thing but in a different colour or print.

VenusRising · 02/09/2015 11:44

Yes, I wish I had bought two pairs of clarks shoes as well when I saw them on a sale. Why I didn't is a puzzle, as they were so comfy.

I've trawled eBay for another pair, but no joy.

I've learnt my lesson!

All the time. Either 2 of the same thing if I know I'm going to wear it a lot. Or in two different colours if I like both.

Garrick · 02/09/2015 11:51

Every time I've done it, I've been glad. I'm too broke to buy much at all now, let alone backups. Last year I got a dress for £10 that turned out to be the perfect 'chuck it on it a hurry & look great' item - but didn't have another £10 for a second one. It was ruined in my house move, and I still miss it!

Just realised ^ this is my official obituary to that dress Blush Yes, buy spares!

InQuiteAPickle · 02/09/2015 11:55

I have 2 pairs of jeans that are the same and they are similar to 2 other pairs that I own. I bought them because I am wearing out the previous 2 pairs.

I wished I had bought more, tbh. One for each day!

I also have a top that I love that I own in each colour it comes in. I got cream and pink for summer and imagine my delight when I was shopping and saw that they no longer do the top in cream and pink but they have brought it out in new A/W colours! Grin I got it in grey but I am contemplating the burgundy one as I am not sure if it's a colour that I suit. Hmm

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/09/2015 11:56

Goldsign skinnies. (3 pairs, 2 colours)
Me+Em dresses for work. (4, 3 colours)
Uniqlo silk shirts and tops. (all different colours)
H&M leather ballet pumps. (2 different colours)
Gap merino jumpers. (2 different colours)

Those trainers are very cool. :)

BornToFolk · 02/09/2015 11:57

Yeah, all the time, or more than two! I've had multiple pairs of the same style of jeans, also plain vests/t-shirts etc from H&M in various colours. I seem to do it a lot with shoes too - I've had several pairs of Birkenstock Madrids, Toms and Converse, all in different colours.

Just remembered that I've also got 4 dresses from H&M that are identical apart from colour/pattern! Grin In my defence, they were selling them for £2 or £3 a few years ago and they are short, jersey things, perfect for wearing on holiday.

Libitina · 02/09/2015 11:58

Yes, I have two pairs of boots and trainers that are the same. In my defence, I bought the second pairs in the sales so they were half price.

Naicecuppatea · 02/09/2015 13:52

I have 4 pairs (well 3, and one on the way) of Gap broken in straight chinos in different colours. They fit perfectly and are so comfy. A few pairs of DP Eden skinnies too!

LHReturns · 02/09/2015 16:00

I buy two of everything I like: two pairs of same shoes, tops, pots of hummus, bras, face creams, jeans, bikinis, ice creams, cocktails, bags of sugar snap peas, lip glosses...cheese....nail varnishes...
...and the second version of them ALL rarely gets used. It's a disease...What is wrong with me??!!!!!

Dawndonnaagain · 02/09/2015 16:07

Identical pairs of jeans. Identical pairs of Clarks black shoes.

lurkingabit · 02/09/2015 16:29

Bucking the trend here. I've bought doubles, tops in different colours mainly. thinking how clever am I. Well not clever really cos it has NEVER worked for me. I always favour one and the other one is left all sad and lonely in the wardrobe, saying 'wear me, wear me'. I don't do it any more.

beardsrock · 02/09/2015 16:47

Yeah, I do this a lot. 3 pairs of jeans, all identical.

Two dresses, same dress, one black with spots, one plain black.

Tops, one blakc with flowers, the other green with flowers.

WholeL0ttaRosie · 02/09/2015 16:56

I do this all the time. Shoes because I have very large feet so if I find a pair that fits I tend to buy them in more than one colour. Recently bought some nice tan boots and am contemplating buying another pair for when these are knackered, purely because it's taken me so long to find the perfect style and fit.

I also do it with jeans, tops, cardigans...off the top of my head I have four cardigans in the same style but different colours, then another set of two. Tops I have at least three matching pairs, plus a set of three. Jeans I almost never buy a single pair, if they are well-fitting I will get two or three at once.

I have been caught out though, assuming something will fit if I've already bought in the same size, have neglected to try on at the time of purchase, and then found it's an inch smaller/ larger.

Toffeelatteplease · 02/09/2015 17:12

About 9 tshirts all the same except for very slight differences on the neckline

4 identical jeans.

6 jumpers in 2 colours

Always buy 2 of the same bra and knickers set

I know what works for me! [Grin]

BabyGanoush · 02/09/2015 17:20

Yes

I have 3 pairs of Gabor balet flats (as comfy as trainers! In 3 colours)

DP skinnies

Pikolinis ankle boots

Hush long tops

Anything that meets that magical overlap of comfort and style I buy in bulk Wink

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 02/09/2015 17:22

I wish I had done this I love Gap black ultra skinny trousers and they don't stock them in my size anymore.

Hopefully · 02/09/2015 18:42

I've done this a couple of times and it's always been worth it. I have a fairly capsule wardrobe though so things do actually wear out.

EmmaWoodlouse · 02/09/2015 18:52

Black tops and underwear. Apart from that I sometimes buy something in several different colours but they're the only things I buy exactly the same.

Palomb · 02/09/2015 18:55

Yeah but only jeans really. I've got several pairs of m&s indigo skinny jeans as they fit me well and I've also got at least 6 pairs of new look black skinnies as I wear them pretty much every day in the winter.

PrimalLass · 02/09/2015 22:46

Yes, all the time:
Four pairs of Next relaxed skinnies in 12
Three pairs of Next relaxed skinnies in 10 (because they were £13 in the sale, and Next changed the fabric so new ones are now shit) - one day they will fit Grin
Two pairs of identical black boots, because I love the first pair so much and it was almost cheaper to buy a new pair than sole/heel them
Lots of the same thing in different colours
But, I bought a pair of kids sandals in the M&S sale for a fiver last year (size 6) and wish I'd bought the other pair that was sitting there because I've worn them all summer.

mayum1 · 02/09/2015 23:27

Thanks, BlairWaldorfLovesShopping! Love your name!

I wanna get the backup because it's limited edition. And maybe Nike will release another Infrared in say three years from now. But I feel guilty! :D

the comment about the two different colour shoes reminded me of this:

Do you buy two of the same thing?
Sgtmajormummy · 03/09/2015 10:59

Ha ha marmite, I wish...
My "Manolos" came from Zerep at the top of Grafton Street, Dublin. A revolution in its day, however.
