Is there such a thing? If there is, what age would be too old for Nike Air Max?

OP posts:

You are never too old to wear something that makes you feel happy. Life is short. Have good feet.

Leviticus · 09/08/2015 18:07

And FWIW Janet Street Porter is a legend who wouldn't give a fuck what anybody thinks of her shoes.

Greengardenpixie · 09/08/2015 18:19

Its a pair of trainers ffs!!!
Do men worry about being too old for them?
er...no!
Wear them if you like :)

CrystalMcPistol · 09/08/2015 18:25

I wonder what these women think of Age Roolz.

Too Old For Nike Air Max?
slicedfinger · 09/08/2015 18:32

I am 50. My bones ache, except when I wear these beauties.

they were mind numbingly expensive though

Lottapianos · 09/08/2015 18:32

Crystal, they both look fab! And like they have extremely happy feet

hotCocolepew · 09/08/2015 18:34

Lotta I'm another Roshe fan, but I have dodgy feet Grin. I prefer the heel to be higher than the front iyswim?
I have other ones but don't know what they are called!
I also have a bright blue and lime Addidas which I love.
I definitely recommend trying trainers on, New Balance kill my feet.

scarletforya · 09/08/2015 18:41
Confused

Near where I'm from air max are old school, you'd see plenty of old/middle aged people in them.

They're around since the eighties.

Middle aged women wear Sketchers and posh, white people wear new balance. Everyone else wears Nike, addidas or converse.

squizita · 09/08/2015 18:50

When I buy new trainers, I basically pick a new white pair and a new black pair of Adidas Shell toes.
I have a pair of Guess trainers too. Very bling but not comfy as they're designed for looks really.

CordeliaFoxx · 09/08/2015 19:05

Wow! So at 36 am I also too old for DMs and Converse too? Looks like my entire wardrobe may be try hard and vile etc etc!!

Wear what You are comfortable and happy in.

squizita · 09/08/2015 19:32

... no one bats a fucking eyelid at 30, 40, 50, 60+ wearing trainers in areas where "S&B" is varied and indeed a thing. Though I often see it cried that this is the S&B board when someone wants to wear urban or atypical clothing.

Though I'm a snob the other way. Slavish rule quoting on MN and extolling Bretton tops & White Stuff makes me think 'lazy and waving a flag saying I'm middle class'. I know that's a knee jerk but it takes more skill (if we are going to be exacting and bitchy rather than let people wear what they bloody well want as they should) to pick a trainer - or jeans or bag or skirt or anything for that matter - that suits one's style/age/body/comfort/lifestyle than to avoid them because we are 30+, and limit choices to the typical offerings at the twee end of the high street.

TheseventeenthSixteen · 09/08/2015 19:39

Never imo. I tried some on and they were really not comfy on me but if they had been I'd have got them. I'm 54. I wear sketchers white ones because they are comfier. I wear trainers most of the time because my joints are painful and it means I can walk without being in agony. And because I like them :)

HoneyDragon · 09/08/2015 19:51

Whilst you're all here what's the sizing and fit like?

Ds has seen a pair he likes (it they are only mail order) and he currently measures just over 5.1/2 shoe size .....will a 6 be too big?

Kittykatmacbill · 09/08/2015 19:53

Please don't get sketchers at best they will make you look like an American tourist of a cruise ship!

Never to old for Classic trainers, converse, nb, Nike air max etc

hotCocolepew · 09/08/2015 20:24

Honey I think Nikes can be smallish

hotCocolepew · 09/08/2015 20:25

My mum got a lovely pair of sketches , dark blue suede lace ups. Shaped like Converse rather than trainers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2015 20:26

Mine are a kids' size 4, and I'm an adult size 4 so they seem true to size. However, I have v narrow feet. If his feet are not narrow, I'd size up.

HoneyDragon · 09/08/2015 20:30

I'll go for the 6's then, as he's not got narrow feet and he's deffo over 5.5.i can always chuck insoles in Grin

polyhymnia · 09/08/2015 20:40

For serious walking etc there is no age limit.

southeastastra · 09/08/2015 20:41

i have some liberty print air max, they're fab and i'm 46

\link{http://sneakersmadame.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/nike-air-max-90-liberty-qs-01.jpg\like this}

Lottapianos · 09/08/2015 21:04

Southeast, they are fab! Are they really comfy for long walks?

Don't understand all the Skechers hate! I have a blue pair of lace ups and I think they look OK but to be honest I couldn't give a fig when I'm wearing them as they are so damn comfy!

ouryve · 09/08/2015 21:14

I'm 45 and, while I find Nike Air Max a bit overstyled, I'm just about living in some smart grey Dart 11, this summer. They're quite cool to wear, have a nice wide toe box and they have arch support in just the right place for me. I can walk for miles in them without any pain and even manage not to fall over, unlike in more "grown up" footwear (whatever the hell that would be).

So long as it's clean, decent and appropriate for the occasion, people should wear wft they like without worrying whether they're the right age for it.

ouryve · 09/08/2015 21:15

Now I do like those, Southeastastra :)

CadiM · 09/08/2015 21:36

Can anyone suggest other black and white trainers, like the Nike ones but without the big "Nike" on the heels? For walking about rather than running. I love trainers Smile

hotCocolepew · 09/08/2015 21:36

Cath Kidston has Gola ones if you like flowery stuff
