That will flatter a 5'3 on-the-way-to-past-it mum? I can't find the threads. Love musto, Henri l, etc.

I have a north face Arctic parka and, no, I don't boil in mine in the winter at all; it's just right. On the other hand, I don't think it's particularly flattering on me; it's slightly shapeless - not that I care! Although that could be because I bought it for myself 4 years ago as a 40th birthday present and deliberately sized up to a medium as I intend to have it for years and figured I'll probably need a bit of growing room now I've reached middle age!

Lagoonablue · 04/08/2015 07:12

The Seasalt raincoats are waterproof and come in nice colours.

fruitscone · 04/08/2015 13:20

Anyone with the Didrikson Mary I have a question.

I can't work out it if is warm enough for me although I love the look. None of the websites say which temperatures it is suitable for. I live in the foothills of the Alps, sometimes have very harsh winters and weeks of minus 5 down to minus 20 are not abnormal.

At the moment I wear a Jack Wolfskin waterproof with a fleece lining and it is the coziest coat I have ever had. BUT I want a long one that looks a bit more stylish and less dog-walkerish. Will Didriksons Mary do the job?

Oh no I've killed the waterproof coat thread!

Come on Didriksons Mary afficionados - come and tell me if it's going to keep me snug enough this winter....

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 06/08/2015 07:18

I'm sick of dating on these threads that the arctic Parka isn't so sweltering. I wear to rugby festivals and on bus duty with its cold. It's waterproof.

I got mine for ?167 off some website. I'm a busty 12 and got a m

Floellabenjamin · 06/08/2015 20:46

I am torn between the seasalt north star and tote Didrikson Mary... Anyone know if one is warmer?

Lagoonablue · 06/08/2015 21:56

The seasalt raincoat is warm but not deep winter warm. I wear mine until proper winter kicks in and then it is Merrell down coat all the way.

I think if you want warm and waterproof you need the arctic parka. I covet them. cost a lot though,

PrimalLass · 06/08/2015 23:33

It's impossible to tell from the Didriksons site how warm it is. Seems cosy though.

Chocolateteabag · 06/08/2015 23:59

Hi Fruitscone - I live in North Yorkshire (edge of moors so can be chilly but not artic) my Mary kept me totally snug through the 0 to -2 coldest days here. It's vv wind proof and if I layer up I'd be super snug but to be honest I'd have overheated in our last winter if I'd worn thermals and fleece/wool layers. I've worked in Russia in January before so I know what -15 to -20 is like and I think as long as you get one big enough to have the option to layer then you'd be grand.
As I said up the thread, I'm 5ft 9 with a size 12 -14 bum (42 inches round the fattest but) and 10-12 top half, I have the size 40, the size 38 was too snug round my bum.

Chocolateteabag · 07/08/2015 00:01

Floella - I'd argue the Mary, not tried the North Star, but DM has a Seasalt Janelle (winter version of the hellweathers) and my Mary is warmer than hers

yazzy85 · 07/08/2015 00:27

The Arctic Parka looks like the ideal combination of warmth and waterproofness with a good style, if only it wasn't so expensive!

Lagoonablue · 08/08/2015 06:46

'my Mary is warmer than hers'. snort.......

Lowers the tone.......

yazzy85 · 12/08/2015 17:19

any other new recommendations? I tried the Arctic Parka but its too bulky and doesn't fit well on me...the search continues.

Paddingtonthebear · 13/08/2015 07:41

North face artic was too bulky and long on me. I bought the Jack Wolfskin Fifth Avenue in navy blue. Tried it on in the Cotswold shop then bought online from a cheaper outlet. Much nicer in the flesh than website photos.

I bought the Didrikson Angelina last winter and it kept me warm and dry through the freezing Scottish hail, sleet, snow and rain.
