That will flatter a 5'3 on-the-way-to-past-it mum? I can't find the threads. Love musto, Henri l, etc.

Anyone have the North Face Metropolis? There are some reduced ones on amazon, I've ordered one to try out as it looks very cosy, not fully waterproof but it should be ok for light shower.

squiz81 · 29/07/2015 21:49

I ended up ordering a didriksons taylor from Blacks (£117) Its going back though. One major reason being it's been delivered with a security tag on! Aside from that though, the shape is a bit odd, it goes in at the waist and the pockets make it bulge out weirdly. The hood wasn't great either. That may be adjustable though, I didn't bother investigating as it's going back. Hopefully the jack wolf skin I have on order will be a keeper.

Melonfool · 30/07/2015 13:16

I've got the JW one in Mocha (baaa) - not tried it on yet though, must do that. Some snow boots fell into my online shopping basket at the same time, never quite sure how that happens :)

Sleepybeanbump · 30/07/2015 13:41

Jack wolfskin ice guard is definitely not waterproof btw. It's lovely and cosy, and water repellent, but not waterproof. I particularly adore it (I have stockpiled 3 and never intend to buy another winter coat for the rest of my life) because it's not down. I hate down. It flattens, it's a pain to wash and it's unnecessary. And now we seem to have so much cheap down around bloody everything is down.

I have that for cold and dry/damp craghoppers Nariko for cold and wet and Seasalt Kellifray for mild and wet. Both can be worn in a more of a straight up and down shape, or pinched in at the waist. The seasalt as nice smart lining and trim and a nice texture to the fabric, and the craghoppers has a nice peachy fabric that doesn't look aggressively shiny and outdoorsy. I haven't tried any but Trespass also seem to do some nice looking cheaper ones. I see them on Trekwear where I go for hiking stuff.

Sleepybeanbump · 30/07/2015 13:47

I don't understand people in the uk buying the north face arctic parka. Don't you BOIL in it? It's for Canada and Scandinavia type weather, surely? And I feel the cold!

How does Lands End come up now sizing wise? I used to love them except for the fact their petite range (which I need) always had sleeves too short.

Def need to keep this thread going! It's only in the last few years that it's been possible to have a choice of a few half decent knee length waterproofs in this country!! We need to make sure the retailers keep it that way!

Sleepybeanbump · 30/07/2015 13:50

Squiz the ice guard is definitely not thin! And definitely very warm. It's like wearing a duvet, but less ridiculously puffy than some of those really huge down coats. I find it's actually too warm for most of an average south east England winter. I hardly wore it last year.

MameHootieBench · 30/07/2015 16:35

I have the Craghopper Noriko and it's fab. Much nicer than you'd think, given the brand, plus a good fit on a shortarse and warm and waterproof.

yazzy85 · 30/07/2015 16:44

My North Face Metropolis jacket arrived and it fits well, is lighgweight as well just a tiny bit long. Is the Jack Wolfskin Icegaurd similar to the Metropolis? Anyone compare both?

beckym8678 · 01/08/2015 07:35

How do Didriksons compare with Merrell Wakefields? Anyone have experience of both..? Am also looking for shove-in-backpack thin waterproof, but that may require a different thread...

beckym8678 · 01/08/2015 07:42

Sorry that's a Merrell Ellenwood, as they are now called...

WorktoLive · 01/08/2015 15:46

I know, Sleepy. My DP has been desperate for a North Face parka for years and every time he mentions it I have to point out that he is always too hot and wears (knee length) shorts at least 10 months of the year so would never get to wear it in the UK and unless we relocated to Siberia, it would never be the sort of weather where he would be able to wear it.

I need a new winter coat this year and have my eye on a few on this thread. Sadly, the best I've liked so far has been either a Henri Lloyd or a Jack Wolfskin one and I just can't bring myself to buy and wear such a brand.

Melonfool · 01/08/2015 17:22

What is wrong with them as brands?

carrielou2007 · 02/08/2015 09:49

Ooh I remember the original thread few years back when I bought two if the Merrels Smile. I bought half price in the sale in dec ready for this winter my Barbour Artic Parka in black. A surprise buy I bought two winters ago was a Superdry coat, £109 soooo cosy and withstood torrential rain (we walk to school) and a huuuuuge big hood great to keep rain off my glasses. Felt bit daft at my age going in there but has been amazing. My 17 year old niece keeps eyeing it up Smile

carrielou2007 · 02/08/2015 09:50

Can't do links but it is 3/4 length

Chocolateteabag · 02/08/2015 14:23

I have 2 Didriksons coats and I love them both!
I am 5ft 9 size 10 top and 12 bottom - normally find coats too short in body and arms.

Mary Parka - is much more fitted than the dreadful Blacks website pictures suggest. totally waterproof and warm - Christmas present which I wore up to April and considering now in this dreadful summer

Didriksons Meduna waterproof jacket. One layer jacket that is fully waterproof with a hood that actually comes properly over my head (but can be adjusted). It has a scooped back and can be pulled in so (IMO) looks reasonably stylish. I need mine for walking in lovely North Yorks rain, but it is also my "summer" jacket as it rolls down small and looks reasonably ok in town

Didriksons is £££ but if you can find somewhere to try on or with free del & returns, once you have the sizing sussed there are some bargains about online. There is a german site called Berfreunde which does free delivery over £50 to the UKthis is my current Didriksons crush just need to justify it a bit more ie when they are sold out

Chocolateteabag · 02/08/2015 14:24

Sorry that should say Bergfreunde

Laquila · 02/08/2015 14:27

Doe anyone have a Skogstad Bo? I have a much-loved Didriksons Taylor but it's too winter-like for wearing April - Sept and I'm after something waterproof but not too bulky/warm.

Chicinwellies · 02/08/2015 22:38

www.skogstad.co.uk/category/products/women/womens-jackets/technical-jackets/bo-womens-waterproof-coat-peacoat Laquila that looks gorgeous

Merrell every time. I have it in purple. Completely waterproof and stylush

livinginhope87 · 03/08/2015 19:18

I didn't realise I needed a coat but I seem to have just bought the sea salt one!

yazzy85 · 03/08/2015 20:06

livinginhope87 which one did you get? I can't decide between them both!!

Paddingtonthebear · 03/08/2015 20:08

None of the Scandinavian brands will be any good if you are petite, the length and arms will be too long
