Wtf has happened to Toast

It was always a tad tortured Edwardian lesbian but it has tipped into ridiculous sackcloth. It is like Margaret Atwood was asked to design clothes for her latest nightmarish envisaging of a dystopian patriarchal future.

East, I have both of those attributes and am also tall and lanky. I still look like an inmate/experimental subject in Toast clothes.

I quite like that white shirt-dress though. Grin

SaveOurBogBrushes · 18/06/2015 12:18

I often wonder wtf has happened to 99% of shops. I feel a bit selfish having all this material to myself when I could clothe half a small nation when I try on some of the shapeless stuff in the shops.

Every now and then I give far too much serious thought to the possibility that some religious fundamentalist is funding shops to make us all look completely shapeless - then I spot the crop tops and realize this can't quite be the case (although even the crop tops someone manage to be both shapeless and revealing - impressive!).

I'm 24 and a standard size 12 who looks either a 10 or a 14 depending if what I wear is fitted and flattering - bloody hard to find in the shops at the moment! Especially as I don't suit high necks...

BigGreenOlives · 18/06/2015 17:32

OnlyLovers sorry I was assuming Toast clothing fitted the opposite of my shape. Cos doesn't work on me at all either.

pocketandsweet · 18/06/2015 17:40

love this thread

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2015 18:15

LuckyStar I am a curvy, generously boobed, broad shouldered 14. I am 5'8" and the skirts and dresses are just the right length.

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2015 18:15

And I am 44.

ChinUpChestOut · 18/06/2015 18:21

BikeRunSki I am broad shouldered, 5'9" and a size 14 (sometimes 16). I loved that dress you linked to - so much I'm going to get it in teal (not a colour that DH recognises). I find Toast dresses are surprisingly well fitted on me, and give me a waist.

I think I may be a tall blob.

GerbilsAteMyCat · 18/06/2015 18:22

The customer service is bad, the clothes are over priced. That is all.

Greengardenpixie · 18/06/2015 19:14

The customer service is bad? There refund process is fantastic. It is always very quick for me. I havent ever had a problem with customer service.
I do agree that some of there stuff is way overpriced.

Luckystar1 · 18/06/2015 19:19

Thanks Bike. Now these dresses, do they have any 'give' in them? Or does the lining rip when you sit (with my big arse!) I think they might be too boxy for me, I need to show my waist or I'm all arse! But I want them to be nice in me!!!

Stevie77 · 18/06/2015 19:35

The skirts look lovely but each and every one I followed the link too is in actual fact too long. If on a 5'9" model a skirt looks to be a unflattering midi length, what chance do us who are somewhat less willowy have?

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2015 19:43

LuckyStar the dress (and skirts ) I have is not lined. The cotton is fairly thick quality and has a bit of natural strength, but the main bending and moving capacity of the dress comes from the subtle pleating around the waist.

Greengardenpixie · 18/06/2015 19:51

Bike did you size up? or did it fit you fine in your normal size? and sorry for a million questions but what colour did you buy?

Preminstreltension · 18/06/2015 20:03

It's librarian meets pathologist.

And some of those swoopy tunics have taken over from where Hampstead Bazaar rightly left off.

So in fact it's librarian pathologist at a gala poetry slam.

cashewnutty · 18/06/2015 21:36

I LOVE the look of those tunics. They are right up my street (52 yo, country/academic sort) I also love Cos. Leave my clothes alone!

BikeRunSki · 18/06/2015 21:56

GreenGardenPixie. I got the grey. It goes with everything! (Andbibalso don't do green). I ordered my size (14) and one up, based on the reviews. My normal size fits perfectly!

aoife24 · 18/06/2015 22:09

Camping, I was thinking of buying the orange dress yesterday but I'm broke. I'm a bit of a fan and have some coats, jackets, trousers and dresses. I'm tall and I think that makes their stuff more wearable. It's the drop in quality that I am disappointed in. Coats etc used to be beautifully lined but not anymore.

Greengardenpixie · 18/06/2015 23:17

Thanks bike. I am considering ordering now....
The quality in their coats is dissapointing. I bought one [in the sale] its absolutely beautiful but only half lined with a cheap cotton material. I did keep it because its so stylish and lovely and it is lovely and warm despite this but all the same. I cannot imagine paying £300 for a coat that is half lined! They will lose their customers.

BabyGanoush · 18/06/2015 23:25

They have lost me...

Used to be good in parts, now it is all too boxy!

Loafline · 19/06/2015 08:44

This season i choose these items, i love them....although it hasn't been hot enough for the beach dress. The clothes are fairly timeless and great quality unlike some of my purchases - I'm looking at you Jigsaw and Whistles!

beach dress
Stripey maxi
Fine knit jumper

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 19/06/2015 08:52

I have to own up to buying a t-shirt and it is amazing, all drapey in the right places and feels lovely on.

here

It was more the thick sack things I was marvelling at.

OP posts:
Loafline · 19/06/2015 09:02

They have very poor styling on the website, not keen on the tunics and the trousers don't fit my shape - I always go for tops dresses and skirts and i love the shoes.

Loafline · 19/06/2015 09:05

I bought a coat in the sale and to be fair, I bought it as a going out coat - but there's no way it would withstand everyday abuse.

BikeRunSki · 19/06/2015 16:00

I have the t shirt OnlyHereForTheCamping had linked to, in grey and navy. They are perfect, fit and drape beautifully, fabric is lovely.

Greengardenpixie · 19/06/2015 16:05

I have the stripey maxi. Its beautiful and so elegant.
