I HAVE to review this! Philips Lumea.

I read about the Lumea on here and ended up ordering the plus one.

Bit of background:

I am white with dark hair that is really quite coarse. I've struggled with body hair all my life and quite frankly just gave up the last few years because my regrowth is awful.

Even shaving my armpits I would have itchy stubble within 12-14 hours.

My bikini area I just left as a bush because the itching with shaving would be immediate and the regrowth came through within hours.

So I bought the Lumea a few weeks ago. Used it on my pits, facet, bikini area, legs.

I wasn't sure anything was happening first because I shaved, zapped and straight away the normal regrowth came through but I did my 2nd round 2 weeks later Sunday and my god. I would say 60-70% of my bikini line hair is gone. I vet had no itching.

Same with my underarms!
I didn't end up doing my legs Sunday (need to)

And I would say 90% of my lip hair is gone!!

It's absolutely amazing. I'm writing this because the hefty price really put me off but I'm so glad I got it and I'm only 2 weeks in with 2 treatments done!!

Mine should be here today! Am so sick of ingrown hairs caused by my epilator Hmm

liftthatup · 24/06/2015 21:37

I have found this machine absolutely life changing. I know that sounds insane but after 30 years of waxing with no hint of the hair thinning it is unbelievable that I can consider swimming without 3 days notice. I have pale skin and thick, very coarse dark hair and have done 6 treatments to date. Truthfully, if I hadn't been going to zap my legs today I wouldn't have worried about shaving them if I was to show them in public. Now that it's warmer I think I will leave it for a while and slap some tan on instead! I hope the new machines being delivered bring as much joy (and disbelief!)as mine hasSmile I only wish it had been invented in the 80s...

The highs and lows of mumsnet - I got very excited by this thread, then saw the comments about light hair but thought maybe my red hair could be considered light brown.... no no, the Philips website is very emphatic that it will not work on red hair, and some more googling confirmed it.

Oh well, on the flip side, I can get away with 2-3 weeks leg growth under nude tights.

MitzyLeFrouf · 24/06/2015 21:48

Wow, pretty ringing endorsement there liftthatup!

Maladicta · 24/06/2015 21:55

Bought one using Boots points a couple of weeks ago, white eyeliner purchased today. Tomorrow will give it a go..

timefortiggy · 24/06/2015 22:01

Ordered!! Just hope the compact works as well as the bigger ones!!!

liftthatup · 25/06/2015 08:29

Mitzy, I know! I don't rave about things without good reason, but this has worked brilliantly for me. I swear I don't work for Philips Grin

liftthatup · 25/06/2015 08:31

Oh, on the down side it takes bloody ages to do but that might be more to do with there being far too much of me to cover!

Dawndonnaagain · 25/06/2015 10:04

I've bought for dd. She is sallow/olive with dark hair. She's phenomenally hairy and has started developing a beard at 18 years old. Poor thing. Funny thing is, I have alopecia and no body hair but very, very thick hair on my head, thick enough to hide bald patches apart from when it's the crown. Sods law she didn't take after me.

Well I've ordered the Philips one, 2 of the dds have very dark hair but I'm assuming it won't work on my gingers Sad

Perhaps I'll try and let you know Shock

Not to mention the freckles are dark so not much difference between skin and hair there...

In fairness though my legs don't need to be shaved more than every few days as you can't easily see the regrowth!

DextersMistress · 25/06/2015 20:19

Just done my underarms and half of my legs. It wasn't completely painless I'll be honest, but nothing too bad. Looking forward to seeing the results Smile

Sleepyfergus · 25/06/2015 20:50

Mines been delivered to my pick up point, so I'll pick it up tomorrow ????

WalkingThePlank · 25/06/2015 21:07

So I did my legs 3 nights ago. Stubble still growing at normal rate. Do I just keep shaving but not Lumea it for 2 weeks?

Talisin · 25/06/2015 21:21

Keep shaving. The advice says to leave it two weeks between zapping but I (and everyone I know who uses one) do it weekly. At least I did until I didn't need to any more Smile

DextersMistress · 25/06/2015 22:32

What actually happens to the hair? I shaved my armpits but as I have very thick dark hair you can see it under the skin. So now it's been zapped where exactly will it go? Confused

suzannecanthecan · 25/06/2015 22:47

you've killed or severely disabled the root so it just gets pushed out of the follicle and falls off.
The hairs which have been killed should come out more easily than normal rooted hairs if you pull them

HappenstanceMarmite · 26/06/2015 00:22

I'm in early stages (first six weeks) of using the Compact. Def making a difference. I prefer the fact that the Compact is mains as I don't need to wait for it to charge up. It takes bloody ages and I'm sure would run out of steam mid zap if I had the cordless.

Peppapissinpig · 27/06/2015 10:56

I have mine!! Made mistake of not shaving legs first (assumed it was similar to epilator and to use it on long hair). It hurt and the smell of burnt hair Confused

HappenstanceMarmite · 27/06/2015 11:22

Lumea Compact on offer on Boots for £100!!! Online only. Plus the full size for £250! Think it could be an earlier model, not sure.

cirrusblue · 27/06/2015 12:15

The Philips SC2004 £250 offer is still available at Boots but the Lumea Compact currently out of stock online - snapped up by eager MN'ers?! Anyway a message says more stock coming soon so it would be worth checking everyday to see when they get more in.
