Inspired by the other thread on long hair vs short hair, I'm wondering what a mum cut is? Pictures please!

I think its subjective, but for me....

Short spikey at the back, slicked down at the front and in a "funky" colour like red/burgundy a dye job black or stripey blonde/red highlights. Anything a symmetrical and a tilted Bob.

This are my ideas of a mum cut!

MagpieCursedTea · 16/06/2015 21:15

I thought it was just a bob, could be wrong though!

Shoulder-length bob that can be scraped up easily

Petal02 · 16/06/2015 22:04

I think Nicola sturgeon is a good example of a mum cut.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 16/06/2015 22:25

what Nilbyname said, that is a bit of a Gran cut around my way too.

Wishful80smontage · 16/06/2015 22:27

For me I think it's like a grown out bob that hangs around your face v.mumsy

Valdeeves · 17/06/2015 00:50

The spiky crown one is spot on!

daftyburd · 17/06/2015 00:54

Yes to the spiky crown one too. Lots of them at our school gates.

Wagglebee · 17/06/2015 01:33

Exactly what Nilby posted. I saw a group on a night out recently every single one of them had that same cut complete with the mahogany colour. I think it spreads.

It's different to a 'mumsy' haircut imo. That can be various things. The Mum haircut is the one is that photo.

Wagglebee · 17/06/2015 01:34

Ugh I feel mean now. It does suit some people but I do think of it as the Mum cut.

PetiteBateau · 17/06/2015 08:14

It's a very dated cut imo

Pumpkinette · 17/06/2015 08:27

Mum cut in blonde.

I think pixie cuts are quite Mumsy. Everyone always imagines Halle Berry or Charlize Theron but the reality is more Denise Welsh or Janice Battersby.

nilbyname · 17/06/2015 09:16

scarlet that made me lol!

BualadhBos · 17/06/2015 09:31

This is the style a lot of hairdressers want you to have if you are in your forties so for me this is the mum cut.

Eastpoint · 17/06/2015 09:35

I see more of the Liz Hurley big blow dry - a bit dated now.

Wishful80smontage · 17/06/2015 09:39

east that's me I think- mines based on Kate Middleton long wavy dark hair- am I mumsy (tell me honestly I can take it!)

LadyMaryofDownton · 17/06/2015 09:56

No I think the Kate cut is not mumsy at all because it's long & versatile. It's the short cut pictured above. You know - I am married now, kids, need to be practical, don't have the time for regular blow drys/styles so I'll just cut it all off & I won't have to worry about it.

Hence the "Mum cut"otherwise all hair would be mum cuts!

squizita · 17/06/2015 09:59

To me it's a slob (shoulder bob). Tie back able but ok down without styling. Bit boring.

GreenHamNoeggs · 17/06/2015 10:05

Vitriolic thread. Still, bet you all feel much better for slagging off other women Hmm

squizita · 17/06/2015 10:41

Not slagging off other women though? Just describing a haircut I actually have right now that isn't that cool but is practical.

LondonRocks · 17/06/2015 10:45

So, the mum cut is short but might be long or spiky or blow dried?! Grin

saltnpepa · 17/06/2015 11:35

just wanting to avoid slumping into mum style, nastiness is in your interpretation.
