DH is squashed every day working near Covent Garden. Horrible.
Blair Provence again, back to our friend's place to visit them. They have a DS six months younger than ours and a 10 week old. They head there tomorrow and we join them on Sat.

That is bad, I don't think I could do it.

Good about the holiday though, that is lovely.

AmberNectarine · 01/07/2015 22:04

They had dress down at DH's (and my) workplace today. Actually it's the best place to be because they crank that aircon right up. I was slightly jealous of DH today. I love the warm weather but with my rucksack on and pushing DD on her bike home from school it did get slightly oppressive!

Two nights out in a row tomorrow and Friday - it's been ages since I've done that!

Drywhiteplease · 01/07/2015 22:13

Not the best day for my fridges I stop working Angry luckily I have another in the garage......darn.

Shop excited for you. I remember the holiday traumas. Love France, and I can't believe its a year since you went last time Shock

I'm crossing everything that this heat wave continues through until Sept so I get this incredible weather on my Brit hols.

Bought a linen skirt in M and S today, absolutely hideous......must have had sunstroke Grin

Kind of a question.........

Going out tomorrow night. Fancy wearing a top I bought from Coast cotton and silk mix, emerald green, halter neck with ruffles on the chest an old fav, must be 10yrs old.
I have a lot of clothes, and I buy a lot I know, but I keep them and wear old stuff too.
Do you replace your wardrobes every year? sounds like a stupid question , how long do you keep stuff? Does it put you off when you've had something for years or, like me, do you keep stuff?

Actually a lot of questions and a lot of "stuff"

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 01/07/2015 22:26

Good questions Dry. My habits are definitely still evolving - I've only really been properly into clothes for about 3-4 years now (since I could afford to have it as a habit really) and I notice all the time that I'm still making mistakes. I'd like to try and aim to have a basic wardrobe of "classics" which still isn't happening when other things are much more fun to buy.

So at the moment I don't really have anything that old, but I like to think that I might still own some of the stuff I've bought fairly recently for years to come.

Of course there are trendy items that come and go, but those are the things I try to spend less on. Doesn't always work! Your top sounds lovely, a good going out top can definitely last years I think.

I think I buy summer stuff less often than winter things as it gets worn less often, but I have bought quite a bit this summer Blush I blame blogs. Not MNVogue of course. Wink

libertychick · 01/07/2015 22:28

One I forgot to respond earlier to your offer re trousers - I won't because grey isn't an autumn colour and I'm trying not to get anything new in the wrong colours Thanks so nice of you to think of me.

Shop I can't believe it's been a year since you were in France and fingers crossed that 2 decent holidays a year becomes a tradition now.

Bad timing on the fridge Dry Shock. Good you have a back up.

bettykt · 01/07/2015 22:40

Shop sounds like a well deserved holiday. May you continue to have more.

Luckily Blair I only work p/t so I can survive on just s few items of clothing, thankfully.

Amber I salute you for going for a run today. As a novice runner I decided to give it a miss today due to the heat. Will try again tomorrow.

QueenCardigan · 01/07/2015 22:43

I keep stuff dry but I don't have a lot that is 10 years old simply because my figure has subtly changed in that time with 3 dc and my lifestyle has changed too. Although I do have a pair of shorts from honeymoon 10 and a half years ago that I wear mainly because I'm pleased that they still fit Grin. I had a couple of gorgeous halter necks from around that time too but my boobs are awful in strapless bras and just droop so I got rid but I can imagine I would still be wearing them had it been possible.

QueenCardigan · 01/07/2015 22:46

That should have said that I keep stuff if I love it, it fits and it's practical. Anything else goes.

AmberNectarine · 01/07/2015 22:47

I keep an old pair of jeans from when I was 17 as a weight barometer. They're too big at the moment which is pleasing.

Other than that the only item I have had for more than a decade is my denim jacket. I bought it at Calvin Klein in LA when I was 17 and I still think it's perfect.

bettykt · 01/07/2015 23:00

Dry I still have stuff from > 10 years ago. Namely some Evisu jeans that I used to wear a lot when I was a slim singleton. I keep them as a weight barometer along with a pair of Karen Millen trousers for the same reason. Both fit atm so sm chuffed. So yes if something still looks good I would wear it if I still loved it.

OneLittleLady · 01/07/2015 23:01

I keep things for as long as I still like them. I guess I have a mix of older and newer stuff. it evolves i suppose. however the oldest thing in my wardrobe is 30 years old and is the handmade welsh national dress outfit my aunt made for me. up until i few years ago, i could still get the skirt on haha

LinusDKD · 02/07/2015 07:24

Morning!

Such a shame we're going at different times shop, otherwise we could have had a French mini MU!

I remember the pictures of the place you're hoing to again this year, stunning!

dry I definitely keep clothes that are classics and that have worn well over the years.

I really hope the Stella M jacket I bought a few months ago will be a classic and I am trying to have the same objective for most of my purchases from now on.

shopafrolic · 02/07/2015 08:19

That would have been so chic Linus - must plan better for next year if we're invited again :)
I am last minute wash and iron mode, pack tomorrow.
My wardrobe is so much smaller since I had DS - after the epic wardrobe clearout and then refreshing it I tend to wear my clothes a lot harder. Jeans, footwear and coats stay for the longest I guess. Tees are probably replaced every 2 years. I have tried to make my going out / evening clothes more classic so that they last (as they don't get much wear nowadays). Still want to buy a high necked HL dress in black to complete that section. Still missing a quality black blazer too.......
TBH though after 2 years I'm often bored with clothes anyway so it's good to have a reason to refresh.

I only have a handful of things that are about 5 years old. And they aren't things I wear much. I agree with the Novice theory that you renew / change your style every 3 years. Recently I've been trying on summer dresses I wore 5 + years ago and really disliking the way they look on me! I do generally cull a lot from my wardrobe and I think I have a relatively low amount of clothes.

Like Shop it would be a good idea for me to get some going out / events outfits that I can wear over the years as they wouldn't get worn much - but everything else gets worn a lot.

I just bought a few things from the Boden sale - both going back:

dress in blue boats - I was indulging my inner 1950s housewife but it didn't quite work for me. Love it on her though

Lille points in silver - these are really nice and well made, just a bit tight on the toes for me. I will probably try them in the size up.

In my quest for hot weather clothing, I think I am going to get this dress and these culottes

LinusDKD · 02/07/2015 10:54

Love that blue Stories dress bernice but it would completely swamp me as I'm a shortarse.

these trousers arrived today and I nearly melted trying them on.

They are a teeny bit tight around the waist but my periods are due so I think they should fit perfectly on a 'normal' day.

They are nearly 100% cotton but it still says dry clean but I might risk washing them in the washing machine.

Wearing my teal dress I bought yesterday and DH said I looked 'quite slim' in it this morning Hmm

mazj4cks · 02/07/2015 11:05

Morning all.
Well...yesterday was warm slight understatement!! was very uncomfortable nights sleep too! Poor ds room was reading 31degrees at 10:30pm!! DH was ok tho as he stayed out for work last night so had a nice air conned room! Envy

Ootd is just a sleeveless striped midi and purple Birkenstocks!

shop I think dhs have those Dyson fans in their office. I know DH has mentioned how good they are.

What would you ladies wear for an afternoon/evening in London for food and drinks? We're heading there sat but I don't know what to wear that will take me from day to night (if we do stay later) I'm not good with heels for a long period of time!

HappyGirlNow · 02/07/2015 13:25

Some great links! Like those trousers Linus

I've never been on the mytheresa site - but lots of you seem to link to it? Must be good then?

I am properly fed up with sales clothing.. Been eyeing up the new collection in Zara...

nice top

love this

is this too much?

sorry, know we're in the middle of a heatwave! Well you lot are, I'm in Scotland!

Grin
QueenCardigan · 02/07/2015 14:16

Have you all still got sun? Ootd here is a cagoule Grin. I started off in my new Fatface skirt but need to change before school as it's absolutely p'ing it down.

LinusDKD · 02/07/2015 14:41

35 degrees here queenc

OOTMoment is a very old black Elisabeth Hurley bikini that I bought years ago in Harrods. It has washed and worn really well and I am impressed with the quality.

Does she still have her swimwear range?

LinusDKD · 02/07/2015 14:54

That frilly Zara top is lovely but not with those culottes.

HappyGirlNow · 02/07/2015 16:37

Agree, not with the culottes linus

just worried it's a little, erm, voluminous Grin

Topazandpearl · 02/07/2015 17:00

Hello all and sorry for being awol for so long. I hope you are all well. Life has been busy and I am trying to be more productive with my time and so, have been cutting down on screen time. I will dive in and try to pick up the thread. (I caught a glimpse of my reflection today and thought that I really need to get back on here -'twas not a pretty sight!)

Cranagh · 02/07/2015 17:33

Hi, haven't been keeping up here either. We move in two weeks and it is a bit busy with schools, packing etc.

Marsha, I hate Clapham station! Glad I don't have to get the tube in rush hour any more, I did my time though.

It was lovely to meet Liberty again the other day and she looked fab.

I have a fair bit over ten years old, Theory and DVF jackets mostly.

Can't remember buying much recently but this arrived today which I like for over a vest top with jeans. Though far too hot for jeans atm. Oh and got these shoes which are nice.

Bonnes vacances, Shop.

shopafrolic · 02/07/2015 17:39

Waves to Topaz
I've been thinking of you Cranagh hope it's all going smoothly. :)
Next stage in my political career this evening Grin Meeting with loads of council councillors, and borough councillors etc. as a follow up to the Parish meeting we organised. So hot I'm not sure what to wear. Am thinking this dress and my LKB pink sandals.
