Happy with natural large breasts?

I'm wondering if it's possible to be large breasted and pain free. I'm seriously considering breast reduction because I can't get properly fitted for a bra by either R&B or Bravissimo. The pain caused by wearing a bra is seriously impacting on my quality of life. Are there any positive similar experiences out. I'm a 36J.

I think this is the old thread but I confess I've not read all 12 pages Wink
Lots of good bra advice and lots of well-endowed ladies to help you feel normal Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2015 11:32

I'd say g is very normal. I've probably helped resize hundreds of women on here now and if I had to guess I'd say the average was about a ff or thereabouts. But a huge number of these women had previously been fitted by places like m and s so we're probably wearing a c or d cup, and 2 band sizes up.

squizita · 06/06/2015 11:37

Indigo just going by what my friend reported her surgeon did. There was some kind of sling involved? Grin

squizita · 06/06/2015 11:43

Statistically I wonder whether the "thin girls don't have big boobs" plays into the DD+ stigma problem. The world thinks you don't exist if you're 28-34 G... because your boobs just look like a 36 DD - you're either fibbing or sucking in some lard in their eyes! Grin I knew a department store fitter who claimed there was no such thing as a 30G bar post boob job, and I should "sister size" it and "stop claiming bigger boobs than your body can have". Hmm This was not at a fitting, I knew her from the pub I hasten to add.
The idea that a skinny girl has a 36 under bust is more odd to me! It's the thinnest part of the torso in my case!

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2015 12:23

Likewise -I'm not thin sadly but my underbust is the smallest bit so despite size 16 hips I'm a 30 band. I am used to the look of disbelief...

I think the media has a lot of impact on the cup size perception issue - look at how often you see articles claiming x celeb is a certain bra size. Nicole sherzinger apparently being a 36c was a particular favourite...

treaclesoda · 06/06/2015 12:49

Statistically yes to the media!

I remember as a teenager reading Just Seventeen magazine (back in the days before it became J17 magazine Grin) and them doing a fashion article on bras, including a 'how to measure'. I was a 32GG at the time. They boldly stated that bra sizes went as high as an F cup (lots of exclamation marks) but not to worry because that was by far and away the most unlikely size you could ever be, and lots of sneery remarks about how trashy big boobs are. I was 14 or 15, I already hated my body and reading that was devastating. I get really angry about it now. I remember crying and crying and wishing that I was fat because then no one would notice my boobs. Then I went the other direction and tried to starve them away.

CallieG · 06/06/2015 14:15

The bane of my life, I am 51 and am a 52 JJ, I don't wear bras anymore because I have not been able to find one that fits me for years and I have not been able to find one that is comfortable for decades. I was a 34 C by the time I was 11 years old. I started adult life as a 36DD, when I got pregnant the first time, everyone said, your boobs will shrink, your boobs will be much smaller after breast feeding, your boobs will disappear, yeah, right, after baby #1 i went up to a 38 E, baby#2 put me at a 40 FF baby #3 a 42 G and baby #4 a 44 H, medical conditions and injuries have combined to make me obese and to make me huge 52 JJ,I don't want my breasts strapped to my chest, rammed together and shoved up under my chin; I HATE WIRES,I HATE NYLON, I am sick of straps that are too short & non adjustable, I do not care about front and forward, I don't want cups as rigid as the sydney opera house sails, all I am interested in is comfort that stops the flops, I want a bra with a wide stretchy underband, Cups made from a comfortable stretch COTTON fabric and easy to do up, something like a huge crop top/sports bra would suffice. Angry

indigoteeshirt · 06/06/2015 17:36

callie : am so with you. Last bras I bought were cotton jersey knit and completely fabulous for comfort. I've worn them for 8 years and it is time to retire them hence my despair trying to find their replacement.

Statistically : I have just reported the Nicole Sherzinger observation to my daughters and I think they've had a bit of an e phantom. hopefully they'll not go through our experience described by Treacle.

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 06/06/2015 19:13

I hope not! Nicole could put a 36 on and the band would be able to stretch round and clip at the front I think Grin I've also seen Victoria Beckham described as a 34d. My personal pet hate is stories where someone was apparently a 32a then had implants and went up to a 36dd. What, did they implant bigger ribs too?

squizita · 06/06/2015 19:17

Treacle yep ... I got told by other women that the feminist thing to do would be wear a minimiser as breasts are a fetishism of men. Not simply dress modestly - they slut shamed my actual boobs.

goodasitgets · 06/06/2015 19:21

My new ewa michalak bra and knickers came and they're lovely Smile v comfy too

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/06/2015 07:56

Have you seem the black one they've just released goodasitgets? Who says big bras have to be boring!

KateSpade · 07/06/2015 09:39

I've read TFT & although I'm only a 36D, I don't know how you larger breasted ladies do it, (I know that sounds patronising, but it isn't meant too)

I'm finding my Bras so uncomfortable, it's unbelievable! I wore a Belvia bra from JML to work one day by accident! & it was heaven!

Good luck ladies, with the boobs, back pain & uncomfyness ect!

BewilderedAndAngry · 07/06/2015 09:42

Kate, wanna bet you're in the wrong size bra? Wink

I was a 36D most of my adult life (pregnancy/BFing excepted) until an experienced bra-fitter put me in a 34G and changed my life - not kidding.

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/06/2015 11:44

IF your bras are super uncomfortable then they don't fit properly in some way - could be size, shape etc but something is wrong.

goodasitgets · 07/06/2015 11:50

The strappy one? It's gorgeous! I got the S shape leopard print set Grin
Tiny bit gappy on top but if I drop a cup down the gore doesn't tack and I get quad boob. The wires sit perfectly so would rather have a gap (doesn't show under clothes)

Truckingalong · 07/06/2015 12:01

I know this is largely about living with big breasts and finding better fitting bras but just to chuck my 2 penneth in.....I've had a reduction and it was far more straightforward than I ever imagined. I was up and about the next day, off all pain relief within 48 hours, back to work and driving within a fortnight and never had a single complication. I now feel normal, after spending my life being gawped at and commented on and never finding clothes to fit properly. Best thing I ever did.

MamaLazarou · 07/06/2015 12:09

Good for you, Truckingalong, you sound really happy Smile

Sainsburys currently have these Playtex soft bras in that go up to a G. They are very comfy, wash well, not hideous and currently half price! I wear them in bed or when I'm slobbing out at home.

MamaLazarou · 07/06/2015 12:10

The wide underband and slightly pointy cups give a good shape without digging in. The straps are nice and wide, too.

StaceyAndTracey · 07/06/2015 13:52

Hell runner - I'm also a marathon runner, but I'm size 10 and 5'5"" ( so 5 inches taller than you and a dress size bigger ) and I wear a 30G . Are you sure you are 32 under bust ?

I have found that running , weight lifting and and chiropractic treatment help by back pain a lot . Though its caused by pregnancy and injuries and not related to my boobs

KateSpade · 07/06/2015 18:44

Thanks bewildered - I have 1 very old comfortable bra - though slight problematic having to actually wear the other ones! Grin

I'm scared of going to a 38 back size, being that only I'm 5ft 0, however I will step away from
m&s to get my next set of after weight loss bras!

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/06/2015 20:04

KateSpade, I don't think bewildered was suggesting you need a bigger band. Most women wear a band that's too big with cups that are too small.

Measure yourself as described here for a start point - if you post up the measurements I'll tell you a rough size.

HellRunner · 07/06/2015 20:38

Stacey yep unfortunately I'm sure was in a 34E before Bravissimo fitted me and the 32 almost choked me for the first few times! tis fine now and am well supported and reasonably comfortable considering the bulk I'm carrying round on my chest I am really small on the bottom half but have the shoulders of a Russian shotputter, I thankfully have no backpain (yet) but know as I get older the weight of them will make me suffer

LadyB49 · 08/06/2015 00:22

I got fitted in Bravissimo and bought a 38h. They wanted me to buy a 36 band but it was so tight I couldn't bear it. Within several wearings my 38 band was in the tightest hooks. I have now just put a seam in the back elastic running up the side of the hooks. Great job.
A 36 band would have been better, but how to get through those first few wearings.
