Happy with natural large breasts?

I'm wondering if it's possible to be large breasted and pain free. I'm seriously considering breast reduction because I can't get properly fitted for a bra by either R&B or Bravissimo. The pain caused by wearing a bra is seriously impacting on my quality of life. Are there any positive similar experiences out. I'm a 36J.

My constructive comment was to try losing weight before surgery.

MamaLazarou · 05/06/2015 11:24

yes, we know, we saw it the first time.

My BMI is 20. It would be a bad idea for me to lose weight under any circumstances.

My sister was looking for the reduction op (she had it done btw, life changing for her) and went to GP. GP didnt look at any notes and suggested she lost weight. My sister was a recovering anorexic and a size 6 was still slightly too big. I have never forgiven that GP for setting her back months.

Before and after
instagram.com/p/3ijYffNd6I/

That's 22lbs (ish) lighter. My bra volume hasn't changed (gone down a back size and up a cup size)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/06/2015 11:45

I hate this whole thing of 'you must be fat if you've got big boobs'! I'm a size 14 now but had huge boobs when I was a size 10 (and that was a few years ago before 'vanity sizing before whatthese jumps on me!)

I buy all my bras in Bravissimo as their own brand is the only one that fits me properly. I'm a 34H and thankfully I don't get back pain from my boobs. I absolutely cannot wear a halterneck top or bikini though as it kills my neck.

stripytees · 05/06/2015 12:02

The OP did say she is in 36 band size - correctly measured that is about 36-37 inches around underbust measurement, which is not small and unlikely to be a size 8 anyway.

I say that as a size 10/12, 30FF and measuring 30 inches underbust and in the process of losing weight.

QforCucumber · 05/06/2015 12:08

I was wearing a 34d and achey until someone on here mentioned how to measure at home - turns out i'm a 32ff, and the difference is amazing.

bought 2 in the new sizing a few weeks ago and no more aches and a much better fit. my point being - are you being measured correctly? the bra intervention threads on here have made such a difference to my aches and shape that I'd never have believed it.

Frostycake · 05/06/2015 12:25

I was a 32H with a BMI of 24 when i had a reduction. Best decision I ever made and I only wish Id done it sooner. I still find some bras uncomfortable but thats just the bras. I no longer have neck pain and exercise is a pleasure now, as is summer and fetting dressed (much easier to look slim and sophisticated with medium/small breasts imo.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/06/2015 12:49

I'm a 34g and don't have any discomfort. I don't particularly like having big boobs but I don't fancy the idea of a breast reduction.

And to the poster who said slim women don't have big boobs - when I was 30 I weighed 8.5 stone after following a very low fat diet for a few months and at 5ft 4 looked so underweight I had work colleagues and friends expressing concern that I looked unwell. My boobs were still a 34g and looked even more massive than they do now I'm a healthier looking 10 stone.

I did once read up on breast liposuction but the information I read stated that it is only effective if there is a high amount of fat in the breast. As I'm fairly slim I assumed I wouldn't be a good candidate for it. It sounds far less drastic than reduction surgery and I'd consider it if it I thought it would work.

florascotia · 05/06/2015 13:00

There is a UK-based online company called Ample Bosom that carries a wide range of larger styles and sizes. Might be worth a look if you know your size.

Twinklestein · 05/06/2015 13:34

But size 8 is meaningless nowadays, with vanity sizing. Sorry, but it really is.

?? I'm 5'5. 7 stone 10, with a 24 inch waist.

In UK vanity sizing often a size 6 is too big. I'm currently based in Paris where the sizes are smaller. I'm a French size 8.

Do you have some kind of body dysmorphia or ED issues? Because the idea that only fat women have big boobs is bananas.

tefloncoated · 05/06/2015 13:56

As mentioned before I am slim with 30H or 30HH bra size (dependent on the make) my BMI is 20.3 and I would guess that without the weight of my breasts I would be on the very bottom end of the healthy range. My stats are 36-29-36. My waist is a little bigger than when I was a teen ( am mid 40s), but I have had several pregnancies. If I were to lose more than a couple of pounds my face looks gaunt and haggard now I am older.

So - No weight loss is not always the answer.

HOWEVER - 36 is quite a large back size. If you are not overweight, chances are the back size is too large and this is causing shoulder and back pain. I know going down a back size or 2 will increase the cup size and make finding bras even more difficult, but it may be worth trying if your BMI is well within the healthy range. Most women are not a 36 back size if they are slim unless they are exceptionally broad or muscular build. Expect the bra to crush your ribs painfully for the first 10 or so wears. It is a price worth paying to take the weight off your shoulders!

ThreeBecameFour · 05/06/2015 14:24

I am a slim 12 with 34G/H bust. I have breast fed 2 children they are now 4 and 2...I have had back problems and posture problems since I was 16. I am now 40. I have had enough of them. I look ridiculously out of proportion. I am having a reduction at the end of the year. My answer to your question is no.

TheNumberfaker · 05/06/2015 15:04

What is vanity sizin

squizita · 05/06/2015 15:29

Basically if you were a lithe size 8 in Topshop in the 90s, you're still a size 8 in your 40s at M&S (except the 8 is 6 inches bigger round the bum).

DanielSan · 05/06/2015 15:37

I'm a 34K and I hate it. When I was 18, they were a 28F, which was fine, but they've just got bigger and bigger in the past 15 years, and since I had my 2 DSs (2 and 7 months) they are ridiculous. I really really hate them, they don't feel like part of me, and when I look in the mirror I don't look like myself. They have no shape left, and I can't look at myself cause all I see is a big round fat blob. I've tried every bra I can get my hands on, but they all hurt like hell. I'd go so far as to say I loathe them. I could try and lose weight (I was a size 8-10, now a 14-16) but what's the point, they're not going to get any smaller and I'd still not be able to find any underwear or clothes that don't make me look like a hooker with a very niche market.

Greengardenpixie · 05/06/2015 15:43

Actually, about the losing weight thing. I am not particularly large in the scheme of things - well a 32F but i do know that when i diet i lose it from my bust and thighs and bottom. That is why i have many, many bras and clothes all different size. Its not an unrealistic comment. Of course the OP may not have weight to lose and if thats the case then that wouldnt help!

treaclesoda · 05/06/2015 16:22

When I was a teenager I starved myself and self harmed and hated myself precisely because of comments such as 'slim women don't generally have big boobs'. I weighed well under 8 stone and was a size 8 on my bottom half. (Back in the early 90s so presumably not vanity sizing). But I still wore a GG bra. It was misery and it is depressing to see that the attitude hasn't changed.

Orangeanddemons · 05/06/2015 16:26

Mine also got bigger after Dc. And horror of horrors, apparently they can grow during the menopause

notapizzaeater · 05/06/2015 16:32

Yes they can - mine have , was a comfortable 36k and now and a 36k with double boob syndrome !!! Bloody HRT ....

indigoteeshirt · 05/06/2015 17:42

Thank you. let's stop with the losing weight strategy as though it's the panaca for every issue. It was a relief breing told by the consultant that the extra weight I carry would be accounted for by breast tissue. The lunch I ate after was the first meal I'd eaten as an adult that was guilt free.

In common with several posters, when my BMI was 23 I was still a G cup. I am now a K cup and yes my breast have increased in size with BT and menopause. Grrrrrrrr

I will continue to find a comfortable bra - and when found shall buy ten. again as a consequence of this thread, I believe it possible. I have nerve damage and will try botox before reduction - because although not the best, they are healthy and have nurtured two beautiful thriving daughters.

I appreciate the mix of posts. Big doesn't necessarily equate with pain and self loathing.

yikes, not BT, BF. BT has many strands but not with this chest.

Ow, no, why would anyone do that. It's not good for your lymph drainage.

My chest measurement is 28 but I wear 30s and 32s because I don't like having them too tight. I wear underwired for support, if the bra is well-constructed you shouldn't need to wear it that tight.
