Not sure if I should be starting the new thread as I'm the last poster on the old one - is this how it works?

OP posts:
Rosebag · 18/06/2015 08:50

NU best to heed warnings about bears. I was terrified by the notices when we were doing hikes in the Lake Louise area last year.

bigTillyMint · 18/06/2015 08:55

NU the bears may look cute but... Wink

Rose sorry to hear stress levels are high in your house. There is some in ours too - down to me but mainly DD. I am trying to gear up with a coffee in a deli (living the dreamWink) before the second trip this week - this time to make pizzas. At 9.30 in the morning!

lalsy · 18/06/2015 09:20

MI, hope the booking comes through soon. So easy to say, but try not to fret in the meantime.

Stropps, hurrah on getting everything finished. I am sure you are doing the right thing to go for jobs and interviews - and hope it goes well today. Doesn't mean you have to take them if they are not right. We visited Notts and Warwick, liked both very much, especially W. Another crepey has a ds there I think. You can get to Warwick on a slightly slower and much cheaper train by using the local train line from London, which might make a good meeting point? (That's the sort of data I liked collecting at Open Days when others were looking at bedroom square footage).

wordassociationfootball · 18/06/2015 11:40

Stropps, Grin at 'released into the wild.' Come on here and work through the pros and cons of any offers. Don't worry, we won't let you do anything you don't want to Smile.

MI, well done for going to GP. I think they are more circumspect than she was if they have concerns.

NU, good luck for more wildlife.

CREPEYES WHO WEAR DRESSES/TUNICS.

I would like another. Simple. Some kind of sleeve, cap fine. Maybe with a the frontage in some kind of twist, otherwise plain. Not short. Not floral or lacy or girly. Where (cheap, cheap) would I score big for this kind of thing?

Rose, do hope you aren't stood up. Kew is a slog. From anywhere.

herbaceous · 18/06/2015 12:03

I don't feel remotely ready for release into the wild either. I've seen a full-time job advertised at our local FE college which would be very handy. But I don't really want full-time yet! It would kill me. And I'm a bit scared of the young people involved. All my classes have been mainly tame adults.

MontserratCaballe · 18/06/2015 13:10

Herbs, would it be worth knocking in an application and then seeing at the interview if there would be potential to do it PT / job share if another interested candidate wanted that? At the very least it would give you interview practice and some employers are happy to make adjustments if it meant that they can get someone really good Smile

WAF, I have lots of lovely dresses which I tend to get on EBay. I like Boden, Whistles, a bit of White Stuff and Phase Eight, though a lot of the dresses I have are formal-ish for me to wear to work. I don't really do tunics, I am afraid.

Rose, hope you got to Kew OK and have a successful meeting.

MI, I hope that you get seen quickly. I think if GP were really concerned she would be trying to get an urgent referral so the fact you were simply booked is probably a good sign SmileFlowers

Loving the holiday tales, NU - keep them coming.

I have 5 scripts left to mark in this batch. I am working through Beethoven symphonies as I type. I'm about to start the 7th. It's been a long morning.

motherinferior · 18/06/2015 14:17

Herbs, wot Monty said.

WAF, I tend to pick up dresses v cheap from your local charity shoppes Blush.

Monty, apparently it is an urgent referral but I think that's fairly standard - rang the practice to find out what's going on mostly because DP is nagging me which he thinks is helpful and they're going to let me know...

MontserratCaballe · 18/06/2015 14:51

Yy, charidee shops round here do a lot of nice stuff. They don't give it away (looking at you, Herne Hill Oxfam) but you can get things v reasonably in comparison to shop prices.

MI, sorry, hadn't realised that it was an urgent one, but if that is standard then nothing turns on it. At least you will be seen quickly and hopefully have your mind put at rest. Will you be off to Kings?

motherinferior · 18/06/2015 15:02

Lewisham.

WAF, honestly, your manor has loads of fab frock emporia. Though I fully realise that this is all a bit hit and miss. My concert frock came from your local RSPCA shop, the silk Monsoon tea dress I'm rather fond of from your much-overlooked little Scope shop (had to be altered a bit but was v cheap) and I have a v nice dark green Jigsaw number from the Cancer Research one (in fact I bought it with Molly). But they're all worth the detour, as I believe Hattie would say.

wordassociationfootball · 18/06/2015 15:37

Thanks MI. I usually only hit them up for childcare DVDs for us all to enjoy, so will try them Smile

magimedi · 18/06/2015 17:45

Very busy atm - clearing endless stuff from downstairs as decorators arrive Monday am.

And the small matter of watching tennis!

MI - hope you get your scan as soon as possible.

hattymattie · 18/06/2015 18:00

Well DD1 has been interviewed for fab summer job in Cambs - not sure where she will live though if she can't live in the collegeConfused.

cremolafoam · 18/06/2015 19:18

Just jumping on to say good luck to you MI on the lump issue. Wishing you well and very much crossing everything for positive outcome.
Herbs and Stropps encouraging noises regarding interviews and job- seeking.

In other news, we have a sort of cease fire, talks about talks, budgeting, some rending of garments, a haircut , and I am in a state of collapse.
Dd returning rather smugly to G. To find paid employment and , sigh, move in with The UB. We've tried to turn things around but failed. The only ground we've gained is that she takes part in some form of talking therapy.Biscuit

Anyway let's move on....

lalsy · 18/06/2015 19:38

Crem, you got her home, you talked, she has agreed to talking therapy, she has been reminded of how you are there for her and what that means, and what a dinner cooked by someone else tastes like. She may brew on your wise words as she slogs away in some dreary job to support UB....it must be so hard to see her go but maybe it is better she tries this out now rather than when term starts? Have a Wine.

dd gone for her first shift today at one of her summer jobs, in a corporate T shirt so vile in colour it hurts to look at it.

hattymattie · 18/06/2015 19:52

Ã?rem - she still hasn't got a guarantor has she? It may have all turned sour by September!

Lalsy Grin at corporate t shirt.

Looking forward to Masterchef this evening and then early start tomorrow as DD2 needs to be in school by 7.30 for her French exam.

cremolafoam · 18/06/2015 21:12

Also watching Yvette Cooper poison Gregg and John with worrying chicken and indeterminate sauce

Hatty , ha! Turns out she doesn't need one. And wot Lalsy said. You got it in one.

hattymattie · 18/06/2015 21:32

I only recognise ChesneyConfused!

bigTillyMint · 18/06/2015 22:02

Cremo, you did a great job. Just because she hasn't done a U-turn doesn't mean you didn't. She needs to learn the hard way as we nearly all did they nearly all do.

I was just watching the Tribe programme on C4 and was much heartened by the family elder (Grandma) who was sharing her wisdom on teenagers. It appears they are just the same thereGrin

DD is in a slightly better mood tonight and has just gone for a run with DS who should be in bedConfused

CointreauVersial · 18/06/2015 22:10

Ha! Chesney Hawkes! I bumped into him once (literally, at speed) in Woolworths in Egham, in 1993. Beat that, celebrity-spotters. Hmm Grin

Meanwhile I have discovered a new vice: Galaxy Salted Caramel. I can devour a bar in seconds. Not good for low-carbing but bloody delicious

cremolafoam · 18/06/2015 23:10

Off you go tempting me with your salted caramel Galaxy CV!!
I have lost 4kg on ma eating prog so do not need that dangling in front of me Grin no sir.
At least something's going right. Getting my foot plaster off tomorrow too. It's the small things Crepesters.

NUFC69 · 19/06/2015 02:21

Waves from Canada- I fancy the salted caramel Galaxy. So far this holiday I have had salted caramel Danish pastries and ice cream. Delicious!

Wildlife count is better today after a trip to Banff (torrential rain), we have seen countless big horn sheep and two (ii, 2) elk. Just the bears, wolves and Cougars to go.

Crem, lines of communication are still open with DD and it's good she agreed to the therapy. Good luck with getting the plaster off tomorrow.

MontserratCaballe · 19/06/2015 06:52

Salted caramel is the biz. But not for low carbers like moi.

Nu, your hol sounds amazing.

Good luck for the cast today, Crem.

Got home too late to watch Masterchef. That will be my post ladyjog treat.

hattymattie · 19/06/2015 06:59

Grr DS has phoned to say he forgot his bus pass renewal paper what he needs to get stamped by the school and which I reminded him about last nightAngryAngry. I have to drive back to school with them as it's the last day!

magimedi · 19/06/2015 07:39

Crem - you are still all speaking which is a vast achievement. My heart goes out to you - it's an awful situation, but she will change & things will change.

lalsy · 19/06/2015 07:48

Wildlife and salted caramel, NU? Mmmm
