Not sure if I should be starting the new thread as I'm the last poster on the old one - is this how it works?

OP posts:
Blackduck · 12/06/2015 17:03

Last festival I did was The Big Chill which was fab aside from arseholes in the tent near us on the last night who were wrecked and wouldn't shut up...
Agree re loos.... Grim.... We hired a camper van and were Envy of those with loos.....

Here D's very happy with maths results and geog. Do gone for Tanzania visas (fingers crossed).

Stress is clearly getting to me - howled whilst walking the hound this morning, but am getting on with governance job app (due in Tuesday..... )

MontserratCaballe · 12/06/2015 17:19

I've never been to a festival either. Apart from Glyndebourne Grin

MI, your Dd sounds as though she is doing really well.

Hope your quest for foundation bears fruit, Rose. Have yet to find a foundation or BB cream which I like As I crepe up it is becoming necessary so I am currently using my super drug one and not feeling the love. The only advantage to being a bit plump though is that my face looks more youthful. Round, but younger. The comment about choosing your face or arse over 40 is clearly true and I seem to have chosen arse by default.

Have borrowed a pal's whistles dress for smart wedding tomorrow and feel slightly less miserable about lard than I did. Have also bought Sally Hansen leg make up as too hot for tights and too scared to use fake tan this late in the day in case I get tangoed. Anyone used it? Will report back.

motherinferior · 12/06/2015 17:29

Oh BD Sad

Isn't the face-arse thing that it's skinny arse (and wrinkles) or ample arse (and dewy roundness)? I too feel that it's important to fill out the wrinkles. Oh yes.

MontserratCaballe · 12/06/2015 17:49

Yes, sorry, I have chosen to expand my arse which benefits my wrinkled face. That was poorly expressed, sorry

Rosebag · 12/06/2015 18:05

Smile re exam results MI - don't worry about being competitive with the A* set who are barely out of nappies. Chill. It's all bollocks. Grin

Oh BD Sad sending you hugs. There are better things around the corner.

Monty even my parents have been to Glyndebourne Envy …If that counts as a festival, I am more of an unhip, uncool fuddy duddy than them...in their mid and late eighties. However I doubt that they had to use latrines whilst they were there…not my DM, ho no.. Grin
And you really don't strike me as a bit plump - no way! You are slim and have good skin! I don't make a habit of looking at my arse in the mirror the way I scrutinise my face…Out of sight, out of mind, I say! I have lost 1 stone and 9 pounds….if anyone sees an additional wrinkle shout very loud, please Grin Shock

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2015 18:50

Agree with Rose, especially after DD's predicted grades/target grades making her majorly anxious and negative about her own abilities - way too much pressure which can cause them to go the other way.

Leg make-up? Is that a thing now?

I am beat too Lalsy. Can I join you for a gingerbeer mojito or 4?

QueenQueenie · 12/06/2015 19:09

Make mine a chilled fino sherry in a chilled glass please...

Yeah MI, pay that grade crap no mind - those with A* predictions now will crash and burn before their GCSEs... they'll be bored to tears and smoking round the back of the bike sheds... your dd is in the right place.

BD. Have some tissues - and get that job applcn in!

Very jealous of your Canada trip NU. Hope you have a fab time.

Crem, have you got dd home yet? Lalsy that sounds rather annoying chalenging on the "stuff" front.

What's wrong with blue / white legs? Didn't get that memo...

Happy Weekends to all!
Love you Crepeys...

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/06/2015 19:18

I don't think I have ever been to a festival either. I am not sure I have missed much.

Hoorah for DD1, MI, can she help inject a bit of a work ethic into the Kleine Schadenfraulein? And ignore the A* maths whizzes, as Rose said. DD1 has some maths brainboxes in her class, but her teacher reassures us that she is "comfortably in the middle".

My world is getting ever more bonkers. Our uostairs neighbour came down this evening and told me that someone had been shot in his back bedroom, as there was a big bloodstain on the carpet, with "blood and bits of bone" spattered across the bed. His carer had apparently told him that it was a cup of tea that had been dropped, and the "bits of bone" were bits of biscuit. He asked if I thought he should call the police non emergency number. I said yes. Downstairs neighbour left us a note saying she had signed for a parcel for us, put it on the stairs with the rest of our post, and the parcel appeared to have been stolen. Think it might have been flea spray, so thief has been singularly unlucky. Man on top has been complaining to woman downstairs about the stench coming from mad neighbour's flat coming up the stairs and into his flat. I feel he may have a point.

BD, that is shit. Sad

cremolafoam · 12/06/2015 19:58

Ian a Sally Hansen user; careful now! It's quite thick and gloopy and a little goes a long way.Grin CV will come along soon to advise I'm sure.

Dd arrives at 10pm. Lalsy we were really stuck on the stuff question, but because of location have opted for storage. Dd had to do all the shifting herself yesterday . frankly you deserve a gold star - I'd have rather eaten my own hair than clear out that room.GrinShock

We are treating ourselves to a lovely Mexican chimichanga, sweet potato Chris and a hooge tub of guacamole from the local resto.
Not quite The Ivy, but pretty delish.
I am hoping against hope that Dd is not in her hoity angry mode.
Sigh
B
Sorry I didn't mean to put everyone off festivals. I think there are loads of civilised and well organised ones..
I like Glastonbury and the Haye, and Brecon, now I am 'up in years'Grin

Stropperella · 12/06/2015 20:30

Crem, wishing you strength and keeping my fingers crossed that your dd is feeling kindly disposed towards you on her return.

I went to Glastonbury for about £25 in 1989, behaved badly, but did not really enjoy myself. Festivals are very much not my thing. I do not enjoy the crush of humanity, the lack of sanitation or being coralled in a field for an extended period. This is nothing to do with being middle-aged. I have never enjoyed any of that. I remember sitting in a tent listening to Elvis Costello and thinking "I wish I was at home." Grin I have never bothered to go to any festivals since. Well, if you don't count beer festivals. I quite like those. Grin Or cheese festivals. Grin Grin Dh's band are playing at a 'blues festival' soon. However, it appears that he won't be playing until quite late in the evening and it will clearly be past my bedtime and I won't be able to do to that either. Shame.

However, tonight his band is playing in a pub in town and I am under orders to go down and "say hello" to his band mates, as they will apparently find it weird if I don't Hmm. Ds has just returned from his school disco and dd is staying in for the evening fretting about the fact that her lovesick wannabe boyfriend has turned out to be the son of a teacher at her school - so I have no excuse for not going to the pub.

MI, sounds like your dd is doing very well. Don't get sucked into the exams arms race - your anxiety about it will only communicate itself to her and she will get all stressy with no good cause.

Stropperella · 12/06/2015 20:36

On my way to the exams hall this morning for invigilation, I passed the nursery that backs on to the school sports hall and saw a very small child (probably 12-18 months old) looking out of the window. He saw me and started grinning, so I grinned back and he started doing one of those lovely wonky little person waves, so obviously I started waving back. Cue a bunch of 6th formers exiting the exam hall, chortling at the mad woman. Then they saw why I was grinning and waving and all joined in. Small child almost burst with happiness. And I went into the exam hall feeling all nostalgic for the times when things were that simple. I don't usually like babies, but that one was very nice. Grin

herbaceous · 12/06/2015 21:21

Hurrah stropps! I never really liked festivals. Or, indeed, gigs. There's nowhere to sit down, you can't talk, and the songs sound worse than on the cd.

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2015 21:26

Awww Stropps, I often pass a wee girl who is about 2 and tiny like DD is was and she always makes me smile and feel nostalgic and a bit lump-in-throaty.

I went to a few festivals, gigs and the like in my yoof - loved it at the time, but not sure I have the stamina now!

Here DS is out but will be returning with 2 mates it seems, and DD has cheered up as she has managed to transfer her music onto her new phone and get it working. Phew!

lalsy · 12/06/2015 21:49

Finally united with sofa, after something cold to drink in the rain Grin.

Crem, fingers crossed. Your dinner sounds lovely.

CointreauVersial · 12/06/2015 22:31

Crem - I do indeed have some Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs - it's very good, but doesn't half mess up your towels.

Festivals - you had me at "Sheewee"....nooo, thank you.Grin DH and I did go to Rewind a couple of years ago, but that doesn't really count, because it was stuffed with middle-aged ravers watching T'Pau and Spandau Ballet from the comfort of their deckchairs, and we jumped ship to the local Hilton hotel overnight rather than slum it under canvas. Toilets still honked, though.

Am holed up in the playroom while the birthday girl and her best mates colonise the living room. I rather foolishness tried to make her a birthday cake earlier - oh, when will I learn to leave it to the experts? The cakes came out like three giant biscuits, the filling was far too runny and just poured straight out, then the top deck split across the middle, and the two halves slid off either side of the cake into the lake of filling. I scraped the whole thing into the bin and sent DH out for a Sainsbury Traybake. Blush

We still haven't seen DS but I don't think his Physics went well. It will be a shame if it pulls down his grade. And we've had a letter from the school inviting us to a meeting about his progress (lack of). Sad

Well Friday in the pub with our ex bar boy who is fab and has come back for the weekend. And a pubquiz (with baby) - left dp to clean up (wasn't doing too bad when we left)

Thanks all - it's just not great at the moment. Latest is we requested Deans expenses only to be told they are not in an "easily accessible form" and would thus cost to give to us.... Erm ... You are making financial cuts and you can't tell us what the Dean spends?!?

Herbs the songs sound worse than on the cd :) :)

magimedi · 12/06/2015 22:56

I was at the first ever Glastonbury - 1970 - if I remember right.

Don't remember much about it - which is correct!

whattodoforthebest2 · 12/06/2015 23:13

Well I'm obviously going doo-lally, as I'm staying in Poole, not Swanage at all. Just as well I checked, eh?

So I'm flying up to TITP and staying in a hotel and taking a shuttle to the venue each day, it sounds quite well organised (last words??). AND I have two refresh tickets which give access to showers, flushing loos, hairdryers and 'pamper stations' - I shall report back if I survive. It's being held at a new venue this year, so everything will be crossed in readiness.

Thanks for the tips, Crem, thank goodness mud is good for the complexion Grin

cremolafoam · 12/06/2015 23:26

What, I was just chatting to Dh and he also suggested paying for ViP( refresh) upgrade, if only for the hot water, restaurant and ability to sit down and eat. Yes, I have heard the venue has shifted. Can only be for the better. Staying off site is probably not unwiseGrin

Dd home and completely bewildered by our 'Big cheerful Welcome'
So surprised In fact , that she's gone to bed with a cat , already reverting to type. ( nice polite well mannered girl) she hasn't had a chance to be the snarly reprobate I've been dealing with over the phone.
And relax.......

beachyhead · 12/06/2015 23:42

I'm thinking going to bed, with cat, nice polite girl is a good start, Crem

My dd1 is up waitressing at the local racecourse tonight, so I'm assuming the rain will keep them peaceful. Frankly judging from the rain here, the Isle of Wight festival will be well soggy ....

Stropperella · 13/06/2015 00:16

Crem, hope things continue in that vein. It's sounding promising...

Well, I am like this => Shock Dh's band was properly good. I really enjoyed it. Was going out of politeness, but stayed for the whole thing and felt guilty for not having had more faith in them. I can see he has found his musical feet with them. Basically a bunch of old geezers - old pros who very much know what they are doing - and a rather fabulous female (crepey) lead guitarist. I am now her number one fan. And even though I hate festivals - as mentioned earlier - I am totally going to the Blues Fest next Saturday. Grin

slurp crunch munch

bigTillyMint · 13/06/2015 07:17

MagiMedi, I am in awe - what a goddess - at the first Glastonbury, how fab is that? Did you go to others after?

Stropps, glad to hear the band is good and that you are off to the festival!

Cremo, glad to hear you are off to a good, if short, start! Long may it continue.

I went to bed early, and then got woken a couple of times by the loft door squeaking and can see some more pairs of trainers in the box and empty crisp packets, so I guess DH supervised the safe return of the boys. Must get him to put something onto the door to stop it squeaking though!

hattymattie · 13/06/2015 08:18

Morning all. My Achilles tendons once again feeling over stretched and stiff after power walk. Obviously I'm a wreck.

I have never been or wished to go to a festival, camping and lack of clean toilets are not my thing - Glyndebourne sounds good though (if we can count that as a festival).

BD - sorry things are so stressy and Mrs S - sounds a nightmare chez nous - although I'm laughing at the thief with defleaing spray.

MI - DD's results seem pretty good to me if she hasn't even started the GCSE course yet. Remember slow but steady wins the race.

Crem - you've obviously surprised DD into good behaviour - she probably came back expecting conflict - well done.

motherinferior · 13/06/2015 09:10

I too am eating my words, especially for Magi: have conducted first Ladysplash in over 18 months and had forgotten how much I loved it. Even if I took DD2's goggles by mistake.Grin I did 50 lengths (I used to do 60 - went OK but next time will be the killer) and came home to sustaining breakfast.
