When do you become too old to wear a bikini?

MissMiss1 · 28/05/2015 21:49

At what age do you become too old to wear a bikini n start wearing a full swimming costume.

I'm in my early 40s n have been looking for some new swimwear. Everywhere I go everything seems either tiny, too brightly coloured, not the right shape and far too young looking.

Is it time to admit defeat on the bikini front and start looking at swimming costumes?

I'm in Turkey.

TalkinPeace · 31/05/2015 18:57

Oranges
does your fragrant husband know that cellulite is genetic, rather than weight related?

uneven thigh skin can be lean and toned Diana Princess of Wales was a classic case , if that is the way your skin goes, that is that
nothing to be ashamed of, just natural variation

like the way some men have hairy chests :
should men be forced to wear a T shirt to cover scars / hair / flab / moobs ?

What's wrong with a man's hairy chest?

thenightsky · 31/05/2015 19:13

oranges I know what you mean. I can sense mine looking at my flabby folds of tummy when I'm sitting upright in a bikini. I don't give a bugger to be honest. He has never actually said a word so it's possible it's my imagination that he is judging. Either way, he only has to say one critical word and I might have to point out how less than perfect he is! Wink

Lweji · 31/05/2015 19:14

My DH looks at mine and I hate it. I know he must be thinking, "that is gross and she shouldn't have it".

Has he actually said anything?

Do you know he is not looking at your arse and having dirty thoughts?

Lisalou1 · 31/05/2015 19:15

In my opinion at age 40, once you reach that age you should be starting to cover up a bit more or at least dress age appropriate.

Lweji · 31/05/2015 19:16

Are you very young or very old?
Grin

TalkinPeace · 31/05/2015 19:17

Lisalou
oh do, please tell me how I should dress now that I'm 50 Hmm

BTW I'm a VERY toned size 8 so a darned site fitter and leaner than most 20 somethings

SarahJessop123 · 31/05/2015 19:42

In my honest opinion, anyone over 35 or anyone who has had more than one child can't wear a bikini. If these people want to keep a shred of dignity perhaps they should consider wearing a moo moo to the beach!

LarrytheCucumber · 31/05/2015 19:45

I've just seen a picture on Facebook of someone I went to school with wearing a bikini. She looked pretty good. She's 63.
I, on the other hand, have only had one bikini in my life, when I was 14, and trying to emulate the same friend!
Isn't it down to personal choice? I don't like lying around on beaches and want swimwear to swim in, which might have influenced my choice.

Roussette · 31/05/2015 19:49

Yes I wouldn't mind knowing either Lisalou! I'm 10 years older than TalkinPeace, do circuit training 3 times a week and SarahJessop123 with all due respect you are taking complete nonsense.

I'm lucky in that I have good skin, I work hard to keep fit and have had more than one child.

Oh and - I have my dignity too. No idea what a moo moo is but if it's something to cover up, it's not for me.

Why can't women respect other women and stop the ageism crap.

squizita · 31/05/2015 19:50

Sometimes I do wear a moo moo and did when I was young and toothsome. I also wore bikinis. Depended on my whim.

Same as now.

I find more dignity in people who do their thing and mind their own business rather than those who constantly worry about what strangers might think of their dress.

It might be a London thing, where people come dressed in 1001 ways and are mostly just doing their thing ... whereas those desperate to be hipsters or white company middle class clones or wannabe gangsters or any other style so they're taken "seriously" ... They tend to be the ones you have less patience with.

TalkinPeace · 31/05/2015 19:50

What has having children or a particular age got to do with it?

lots of 17 year olds are flabby and look crap in bikinis
Most older ladies in bikinis take a sight more care of themselves than youngsters.

And what does having had kids have to do with what one wears?
Have you not heard of yoga and pilates?

squizita · 31/05/2015 19:52

A moo moo is a kaftan thing in a Hawaii style. In American sitcoms they're used as visual slang for extremely heavy people.

Roussette · 31/05/2015 19:55

Thanks squitza. Don't need or want a moo moo then have aways hated kaftans or anything remotely resembling them!

TheWordFactory · 31/05/2015 19:55

You see talkin you're being every bit as sexist as others are being agist; stating that women who are 'flabby' look 'crap'...

Come on. What sort of woman hating shit is that?

Women who want to wear bikinis should do so whatever their size or their age!

squizita · 31/05/2015 19:59

Last summer I was very pregnant and wore a resplendent 1970s moo moo, far to bright and bold and silly for dignity.
Someone said I looked like a ship decked out for a festival. Grin

I also wore a bikini when 7 months gone, because I couldn't find a maternity costume I liked and bikinis have a natural hole for the bump!

TalkinPeace · 31/05/2015 20:00

Word
my point is that age is not the issue.
Attitude is.

Weight is a health issue not a beauty issue, hence why old crocks like us are more aware of weight control that ever Smile

FWIW my inspiration is Jo Whiley : same age as me, more kids than me, same height as me : exudes confidence

TheWordFactory · 31/05/2015 20:07

Nothing to do with attitude. All about weight.

Lean people should wear bikinis whatever their age. Flabby folk look 'crap' whatever their age.

Just judgmental shitola really!

MorrisZapp · 31/05/2015 20:17

It's a muumuu, if my reading of Armistead Maupin was correct.

I freakin love my bikinis. I'm 43, size 14, massive boobs. I buy good quality bikinis and they're super flattering, plus they let me tan my tummy.

Freya and Panache are my go-to's.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 31/05/2015 20:23

Word are you quoting or are you a knob?

Picks up herself from the floor from all the laughing.

Good thing most women where I live don't give a damn about your opinion.

squizita · 31/05/2015 20:38

Lying she's paraphrasing and commenting on another post, disagreeing.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 31/05/2015 21:10

Thanks squizita, didn't think it sounded like Word's style.

There are quite a few knobbish women on this thread, we should feel fleeting sorrow for their tiny narrow minds and big fat traps. I feel sorry for them anyway as they seem the sort to have judgemental partners who will always have their eyes on other women.

FunkyPeacock · 31/05/2015 21:10

Assuming we are talking about at the beach or pool rather than to wander down a UK high street then you are never too old to wear a bikini!

Some women prefer a one piece and that's their prerogative but I have no intention of ditching my bikini any time soon (I'm 40 btw) Grin
