Breton tops

I am aware that this is one of the least exciting requests ever (and that some of you will have strong views on the fashion dullness that is Breton tops.) But anyway....

I am after a couple of Breton tops. I have an old Boden one which is good, but the reviews this year say the fabric is thin. I want reasonably thick, sturdy cotton. Willing to spend a bit on a good one, but not designer £50 a tshirt prices. It also needs to be long in the body as I'm tall.

Any ideas?

There are some nice thick ones in joules at the moment, £25 if I remember correctly.

mewkins · 25/05/2015 11:44

Joules and uniqlo ones are very thick and good quality. Personally i like the thinner Bden ones as I prefer to layer.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 25/05/2015 12:20

Thanks.

Mewkins - I like layering too, but not always and I already have some layering tops Smile.

Thanks for the Joules and Uniqlo recommendations.

plus the joules one if you can tolerate the brand being on it

BadgersArse · 25/05/2015 12:25

YIKES at the styling

Amor lux you need to up your website

Madbengalmum · 25/05/2015 12:26

They are a french company and they are original breton tops. Discovered them in france.

WipsGlitter · 25/05/2015 12:26

I have a Boden one; its fine for this weather. Years ago I got a really thick one from there but it was in an A/W collection so I'm not sure if it was a one off.

BadgersArse · 25/05/2015 12:26

they really have just got their toothless mates as models

Madbengalmum · 25/05/2015 12:28

Badgers, look beyond the website, the quality is really, really good.

Madbengalmum · 25/05/2015 12:29

www.urbanoutfitters.com/uk/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=5112439789857&category=BRANDS-EU

thick but a very soft knit at the same time - not bulky

says the blue is sold out but it was in stores last week.

Follyfoot · 25/05/2015 12:43

Saw this Seasalt one in the flesh last week and almost bought it, it was sooo soft.

stripytees · 25/05/2015 13:02

I've tried lots (see name...) and the thickest of British brands are currently Joules. Seasalt is somewhere between the Boden and Joules ones. I also found a lovely one in the L.O.G.G. bit of H&M recently for less than £10.

leedy · 25/05/2015 13:36

I really like the Seasalt ones.

NeitherHereOrThere · 25/05/2015 13:51

Petit Bateau are nice and thick but a bit pricey - however with the euro being weak... Another french brand I can recommend is St James - again a bit expensive but great quality.

Boden's summer bretons are too thin but their A/W ones may be thicker - I have a couple of their bretons.

dragonbear · 25/05/2015 14:56

I have bought the Boden ones for the last 15+ years but have just bought three joules ones - the Harbour style . The cotton is thicker and better quality and they are also longer . There is a 20% off code at the moment -SUMMER - which makes them only £20 each - a bargain !

CointreauVersial · 25/05/2015 16:53

I have a Charles Tyrwhitt one (wearing it now, in fact) and it's lovely and thick.

LittleG69 · 25/05/2015 16:59

CointreauVersial how is the sizing on the Charles Tyrwhitt ones please? True to size?

HermioneWeasley · 25/05/2015 18:15

The Charles tyrwhitt ones are a bargain - wish I needed some!

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/05/2015 19:13

I have that UO one in red and blue - it's really nice on and washes brilliantly. There's another BDG one I have from there in cream/blue which has nice piping at the neck and is a bit different.

Flingmoo · 25/05/2015 19:42

ME&EM if you want the the 3/4 sleeved version that Duchess of Cambridge has been snapped wearing many times in the past. Comes in cobalt blue stripe and a darker almost black stripe. Love mine, got it in their sale. Its very flattering. Not really thick fabric but not as thin as the Bodem ones which were so awful I sent them back immediayely. ME&EM don't always stock it though.
