Long pixie cut with wavy hair?

PacificDogwood · 17/05/2015 11:08

Is this ever a good idea?

My hair is mainly wavy with a proper curly section right at the front, so my fringe needs to either be 'allowed' to be curly or be straightened. The rest is at best wavy, at worst frizzy (Scottish wind 'n' rain does NOT help Hmm) and currently about mid-back length.

I last had is short, proper man-short Grin, about 5 years ago, but feel the urge for a radical change…
Oh, and I am not one who will ever spend much time 'styling' my hair; I'm 49, I don't think I'll change now.

Help save me from myself!

I'm not sure curly hair could take a shortcut (without a stylist/ghd/glue)

Mine is similar and I wont go shorter than a long bob otherwise it ends up likes triangle when humid.Confused

PacificDogwood · 17/05/2015 11:12

Too messy?

Too much styling required? - I fear I don't wear enough make-up to pull this off. Like none. And my hair is brown/auburn.

funnyface, yes, that is my fear.

My very short haircut was great and very easy to look after - apart from needing constant hairdresser's appointments Grin, but I don't really want to go that short.

Hm. Maybe I just just lob 4in off and be done with it.

This kind of think is what I would like

Oh dear, I seem to tick most of the 'Don'ts' - back to the drawing board.

Maybe I should go blond?!
Never been blond in my life… not going to happen

Oh no - PLEASE get that last style - it's gorgeous! I would have that cut in a heartbeat if I weren't overweight - and I have wavy brown hair too.

I realise that I may be vicariously over-invested here, but at least talk to your hairdresser about the style and see what she thinks about the list of 'don'ts'. I say bollocks to 'em. Hope she agrees.

PacificDogwood · 17/05/2015 22:15

Yes, I like that one too, but think I'd forever have to be 'styling' it and fighting my frontal curls. I wish I had curls all over or none Hmm

I like the first one (too messy?). I think messy describes me well... I might well get mine gut a bit shorter, and start wearing more make up. I also like the last one, but would struggle with the amount of styling required.

HoneyDragon · 17/05/2015 23:00

How wavy is your hair? Mines naturally wavy but my shiny new cut behaves itself. I just bung in product when wet and dither blast it with the hairdryer or let it dry naturally. I don't usually wear make up other than mascara and red Vaseline.

HoneyDragon · 17/05/2015 23:01

Shiny?

Short, short cut.

HoneyDragon · 17/05/2015 23:01

Oh, and go blonde Grin

funnyface31 · 17/05/2015 23:29

I love the last style (secretly wants this too).
That could be doable with good straighteners and I swear by V05 hair spray that has waterproof in to stop the fizz/triangle growing!

colouringinagain · 17/05/2015 23:35

Love that one you think might be too messy Grin

TheBookofRuth · 17/05/2015 23:37

DON'T!

I have wavy hair and I've had that last cut you posted - pain in the arse, it was, needed constant styling to look good and the slightest breeze or drop of rain turned it into a frizzy mess.

However, what I have now is somewhere between that and "really short Anne Hathaway-esque" pixie and that is working really well. It just needs a bit of wax rubbed through it.

BillyBigchin · 17/05/2015 23:53

I have pinning short curly dos all weekend. I have a hair appointment in November (first Saturday I could get unbelievably) and want all my hair chopped off.

My faves are these.

And these. My face is too fat right now but hopefully won't be by then!

Oh. Threadkiller!

I thought those haircuts were gorgeous too

PacificDogwood · 18/05/2015 22:18

No, you've not killed it, Billy Grin

Those hair cuts are all gorgeous, I just fear that I am not as gorgeous as those models. Nor do I wear any much make-up and I think that might be key.

The 'messy' one I linked too may just annoy me at work - my long hair I currently put up, so it's out of my face, away from my ears and never falls forward - I like that about long hair.

HoneyDragon, I don't think I'd ever be a good blonde - and with ongoing hannaness going on my head, I'd shudder to think what might happen if I added bleach in the mix Grin

HoneyDragon · 18/05/2015 23:26

You just don't want to lose the henna shine. Grin

I don't blame you, hard core bleaching knackers your hair.

Allowmetoretort · 18/05/2015 23:40

I have that last haircut.
You would need to straighten it constantly.

My own Barnet is thick, straight with a kink.
Apparently it's best for hair like mine as the weight of the hair holds the shape and the kink helps with the 'swing' of the fringe

If you are not ready to completely style every day, I wouldn't.

I like the end one Billy posted, tamed but still great curls.
Embrace your curly Smile

itsveryyou · 19/05/2015 00:45

I'd start by going on Pinterest and finding 'short curly' hairstyles, then pin the ones you like. Take them to your hairdresser to discuss them together. I have v wavy hair which does straighten well, but also curls up into ringlets when left alone. I recently had a short, graduated bob cut which I can wear either curly or straight, and having it shaped and well cut has worked wonders for the curls. I also just bought some frizz ease beyond smooth primer and it is just brilliant for, those extra frizzy bits!

PacificDogwood · 27/05/2015 22:24

What do you think of this one? The more wavy version for every day, the straightened one for 'smart' Grin

I also love the shaved undercut on this one

I should add I wear glasses and there are so few hair models wearing glasses - that and my lack of imagination makes it really difficult to 'see' myself with one of those cuts Confused

Love that first one, Pacific. Really gorgeous. Slightly prefer it to the second cut, but both are great.
