Will anyone get 'the' M&S skirt?

That suede one?

Or is it over-hyped, over-priced and over-exposed?

At least if you have explosive diarrhoea while wearing it no one will notice.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/05/2015 07:01

Put it back on the poor cow it came from.

Why can't Marks actually design stuff that people under the age of 85 might want to wear

tribpot · 15/05/2015 07:04

At least the model knew that as soon as she took the skirt off she would be transformed back into a raving beauty.

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/05/2015 07:29

Still in stock in all sizes.

BeaufortBelle · 15/05/2015 07:44

I just keep coming back to this "it's not just shite .............it's M&S shite".

Priceless - pure genius. I'm not sure I'll be able to resist at an opportune moment when looking at the Per Una prints. I used to like Per Una - it just hasn't changed for 15 years.

Shonajay · 15/05/2015 08:02

It's hideous. But then I don't get the appeal of Boden either- and that seems really popular.

noddyholder · 15/05/2015 08:29

They did an imitation one before this one!

niminypiminy · 15/05/2015 08:59

Yep, they did a faux-suede skirt which I seem to remember sold for £39 and which has completely sold out. I actually think it's a good skirt, and I don't see what's so awful about tan suede if you like tan at all. I see lots of people on this board going on an on about tan bags and tan shoes, none of which I'd personally wear.

£200 is a lot, but it's less than the almost identical skirt from Jaeger which is £350. I actually think it's pretty good value and is nice soft suede.

I really don't get the hate for M&S. My wardrobe's full of very carefully chosen pieces from M&S, mostly from the top of their ranges, that is well made and designed in good fabrics. What's not to like?

niminypiminy · 15/05/2015 09:01

Also, if you don't like midi skirts that's fine, but they are the fashionable length at the moment. You can hardly criticise M&S for not being at the cutting edge of fashion and then criticise them when they are. Or can you?

noddyholder · 15/05/2015 09:07

It's not the length I wear midis a lot they aren't cutting edge they've been around a while! I just think the skirt is so over promoted now it will be a case of the skirt wearing the person rather than the other way round! I love marks

EuphemiaCoxton · 15/05/2015 09:15

I've got £50 to spend in M&S in Christmas vouchers. I can't find anything I want.
The knitwear is in horrid colours and all the decent PJs have sold out.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/05/2015 09:16

The last time I went into M&S, about a month ago, I went in looking for a pair of black or dark coloured cotton trousers. The only trousers I was offered all had elasticated waists. Sorry M&S but at 50+ I have not lost the ability to do up a button and a zip yet.

Coastingit · 15/05/2015 09:21

Oh Euphemia see £50 I could spend easily at M and S.

What sort of things do you like? Narrow by range and look at Autograph, plenty of lovely things that aren't £200 and well priced / decent quality.

Or Rosie silk undies, the bras are gorgeous. Or shoes.

Dowser · 15/05/2015 09:31

Oh my effing dog!

It's horrid. Beyond horrid.

I was in m and s outlet store one day and said to the assistant ' who on earth are they making these dowdy , frumpy, badly cut clothes for. I'm in my 60 s and I wouldn't be seen dead in them.

She agreed.
Only went in with OH cos he likes their shirts.

Someone said there's no joy in it. Too blummin true.

I've got some lovely dresses from Quiz. They are not all glitter either. Some pretty florals from Dorothy Perkins. Can't wait for the weather to really pick up so I can wear them without a cardi.

The sooner m and s becomes a food supermarket the better.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/05/2015 09:36

Have an M&S credit card and get points. Whenever I am sent vouchers I end up giving them away. I seriously wonder how the shop has kept going for so long. Also am I the only person in the world who has never got M&S ready meals, they have a certain taste/smell that prevails over all the recipes.

noddyholder · 15/05/2015 09:58

I like the plain stuff tight skinnies the shoes can be good the bras never fit me even if I fiddle about with various sizes.

OOAOML · 15/05/2015 10:29

They are ok for shoes (I have wide feet and like getting a choice of wide fitting shoes for a reasonable price), vest tops, boring black work trousers etc. Not bad for work shirts. I've given up on the knickers as John Lewis ones are much better quality for the same price.

I think they should be concentrating on basics. They still do some basics well (although the quality of their tshirts has gone down, they don't wash nearly as well as they used to), but seem to have little direction otherwise. And their website is awful. The website is one place where the clothes should look really good. Seeing young models wearing granny nighties and dressing gowns just looks ridiculous (there's nothing wrong with granny nighties and dressing gowns, but tall willowy young women looking awkward in them is a disaster in marketing).

NCTimeAgain · 15/05/2015 11:05

I have to say - their perfume section is somewhere I could very easily spend lots of time and money. They've got a great range in the larger stores.

And I love the Rosie for Autograph range. Their silk underwired padded bras are comfy enough to wear for yoga and wash very well.

I haven't bought their clothes as such for yeard and I'm 50.

NCTimeAgain · 15/05/2015 11:06

Shoes and boots - agree with OOMAOL

dexter73 · 15/05/2015 12:17

I very rarely buy anything from M&S. Their shoes don't fit me and I very rarely see anything I like in there that I couldn't get a nicer version of elsewhere (jumpers are too boxy, t-shirts are too short, jeans are huge around the waist etc.). The only things I buy are bras and tights.

Think it could look fab in size 8s

Actually, M&S have come up trumps for me this summer, a fab Breton stripe Jersey dress, Jersey maxi skirt, some carefully styled linen.

I'm not used to this. it usually all looks like per una. But they have got some basics absolutely right this season

Oly4 · 15/05/2015 14:02

But I agree the website is awful. And hard to use

spookyskeleton · 16/05/2015 08:14

I have got some lovely stuff from M&S recently - a couple of linen skirts, work shirts and 2 pairs of work trousers. And yes I got the ones with elasticated waists as they are just so much more comfortable and, for me, comfort trumps style Grin although I do always wear them with long top so the waist is hidden Wink

Kennington · 16/05/2015 08:19

I couldn't wear that skirt as my legs could not carry it. I love fashion and marks too. They are doing great 7/8 trousers at the moment.
Their cashmere is lovely.
Plus their shoes particularly boots are fantastic, and underwear. Am not keen on a few of their ranges but autograph and m and s collection are good quality basics.
