Why do some shower creams and soaps have a distinctly sweet vomit like smell off them?

Because I have sensitive skin I splashed out on Jason Coconut Shower Cream. It smells like someone drank coconut milk and then threw it up a few hours later.

I remember a Dove product smelling similar a few years ago.

Does anyone know whether there is an ingredient which causes this (that I can avoid at all costs)? Does anyone else notice this as well?

I don't know the ingredient concerned, but I bet it's the same one that my nose can't bear, although to me it's not vomit, more like a slight undertow of skid mark.

I wish I knew what it was, as it certainly interferes with the pleasure of getting clean. Most frustrating when you've shelled out extra for a treat, too.

I've just remembered that the Marks and Spencer I go to have the same phenomenon going on with the pale green liquid soaps in the dispensers in their toilets. Really disgusting. When I was pregnant it used to make me gag!

The DC refused to use one suncream last year because it 'smelled of poo'. To be fair to them, that's exactly what it smelled like

Maybe it's one of those genetic things, where only some people can smell a certain scent? Can't imagine the manufacturer did it deliberately!

I get a distinct whiff of fecal matter from a number of toiletry requisites. Especially Calvin Klein 'Truth' perfume - smells totally of bot holes.

Kasmir perfume smells of lamb fat and dirty trousers. No help either.

When I was pregnant the hand soap in the loo at the antenatal clinic smelt DISgusting. It was exactly like bile. I don't know where it came from. I couldn't use it due to the horrible bile smell that then stuck to your hands the rest of the day and I imagine if you were suffering from morning sickness it would have made it 100 times worse!

Jasmine can give a fecal smell due to the indole content.
Blackcurrant smells like cat wee to me, I hate when the dcs have blackcurrant squash.

l'occitane divine cream smells of tomcat stale widdle.
And one of the Lancome perfumes smells like a 6 yr old mixed 48 different cheap perfumes together.
Perhaps we should make a list?

Does that l'occitane cream have urea in it. Sangria ? Cos that reeks of piss to me, for good reason I guess.

I got this with the Nivea coconut shower cream I bought last week; smells like someone has been sick and tried to cover up the smell with perfume...awful sicky, sickly sweet smell

Howvever I do like the soap they use in M&S bogs- smells like the fairy Toilet soap I sued to use as a kid...nice, clean smell (not vomitty to me)

I get this with Dove soap. My hands smell faintly of shit after use. Not what I am looking for in a soap TBH.

Some air fresheners smell awful too. Febreeze smells like hamsters.

Personally I find full on synthetic smells, which we are sold as being hygienic/ fresh quite hideous.
My MIL lives in Northumberland (pure, fresh air for free) yet uses those nasty plug ins in her house.
I work in a hospital and the constant cleaning and spraying with cleansers and disinfectants, though done for a good reason, is really hard to breathe in sometimes.

The children's L'Oréal strawberry shampoo & conditioner smells of sick.
One of my ds' s thought someone had been sick in the bathroom after I washed dd's hair!

So does the schwarzkopf childrens shampoo, it smells like vomit!
My DH uses lynx and to me it smells of garlic, shit and dirt all masked with perfume
