Which dress would you choose for a smart wedding?

I have another thread going about hats for the same wedding and now I need help with a dress, please!

Which do you prefer out of these?

I will be 27 weeks pg at the time of the wedding and it's next month. I was originally thinking of the seraphine one but I do like the asos one, plus it's so much cheaper and it's kind of annoying having to spend so much on a maternity dress. I also have the cream coat shown in one of the photos with the blue dress so will be wearing that, and it will work for non maternity which is great.

What do you think?

Sorry, don't think the second dress link worked.

I'd just get the ASOS one if you've only got the one event while pregnant. No point in splashing the cash if there's no need!

Could you link to your hat thread? Am nosy.

FiveExclamations · 08/05/2015 16:35

Depends on the wedding, if it's formal with a hat then the navy blue, if it's in a garden or similar I'd go with the peach.

They're both lovely.

It's my db's wedding and all my family will be very smart - dh in tails etc. So I don't want to look too casual, but equally want to save a bit of money as I don't think I have any suitable shoes eitherWink!
Maternity occasion wear is so annoying and limited! In my weird logic way I'm thinking is it better to buy a hat and cheaper dress as hat will still fit when not pregnant!

Are you planning to wear anything over the peachy one? I'd go for a jacket that's got a bit of structure add a hat and you're there (only IMO of course).

FiveExclamations · 08/05/2015 16:58

... Though actually I'm struggling to think of what would be the right shape/length jacket.

FauxFox · 08/05/2015 17:08

I like the blue one much more...you could probably sell it on ebay afterwards and make some of the money back?

MyNameIsSuz · 08/05/2015 17:10

Why not order both and see which is nicest? It's been a couple of years but when I was pregnant the quality of formal dresses from asos was quite hit and miss - I had a couple of weddings and must have ordered and rejected about five from asos. Seraphine one probably a better bet if it's still the case. And I think you're leaning that way anyway since you mentioned what you'd wear with it!

Also, if it's a close family wedding I'd probably spend more for quality, even if you do only wear it once.

MyNameIsSuz · 08/05/2015 17:11

Oh, and have you thought about hiring one? That's what I did in the end, got a gorgeous designer dress from Hire Expectations, service was great and dress was lovely!

FadedRed123 · 08/05/2015 17:18

Think they are both lovely. The ASOS dress would look nice with a short, 3/4 sleeve fine crochet lace jacket, especially if you can match one of the peachy shades of the dress to the jacket. Neutral bag, shoes and hat, add a (artificial) flower to the hat in one of the dress colours.
Hope you have a lovely day.

missmillimentscardigan · 08/05/2015 17:28

Thanks for all the advice. Yes, I completely agree re the short, crochet lace jacket with the peachy one, but I've already bought the long white coat that's shown with the blue dress, as I thought they looked really smart together!

I think I do prefer the blue one overall, and I want to look nice in the photos etc!
Thanks for the Hire Expectations idea, mynameissuz - will check it out.

From my experience selling maternity wear on ebay, I got 80% of my money back on Tiffany rose and seraphine and Isabel oliver, so if you prefer the navy, get it with a view to reselling.

Personally I like the Seraphine one much better.

missmillimentscardigan · 08/05/2015 21:53

Thanks lambzig. That's good to know. I've just ordered it!
