New to Mumsnet- had my birthday a month ago, turned 40, so took the plunge for a bit of botox, to smooth out my crow's feets and forehead lines.

LOVE it! Very smooth face now, hope it lasts another 2-3 months.p
I would recommend it, definitely, although I think people should wait till late 30s not get it too young

I would love to have this done

I am 35 and used to be pretty but after 3 dc I am looking old and tired and have really noticed it since turning 35 :(

couldn't afford to have it regularly though, maybe once a year if I was feeling flush. would that matter?

noddyholder · 03/05/2015 14:03

It's quite common to get quite unwell with it but no one likes to say as then that would mean don't have it.

Fabulassie · 03/05/2015 16:45

MrsGuyGarvey - I know the place you mean. I've walked past it - same convenient end of town as HoF. I've just looked at their website and their prices are very good! Last time I went to HoF there was a 20% off special on so I got a good deal. But £99 per area still seems like a very good deal. Actually, since I get three areas it's even better. I will check them out next time, I think. Because if HoF isn't giving a special deal, then I'd be paying about £350.

emmarowlands · 03/05/2015 17:35

Of course there are potential side effects, but most don't have any issues. And yes it's a toxin, with lots of debates about whether should be used etc

Dying your hair can have terrible side effects, for that matter. Someone can colour their hair with the same product for years and then one day just blow up like a balloon.

How many of us even bother to do the patch test?

emmarowlands · 03/05/2015 21:38

Very true Fabulassie!!

I got botox once for crows feet and forehead. i felt flu like after wards. i had a headache for days. the forehead looked totally fabulous, but the crows feet went away and instead wrinkled underneath my eyes, causing new lines and wrinkles were previously there were none. now, after reading up about what botox actually is (poison) and what happens if it does spread to the rest of your system, i would never get it again, and i regret getting it. it has really aged my face. i got it for a confidence boost as a one off treat during a rough time, which made it all the worse of an experience. of course, its different for everyone, but i wouldn't want anyone else to go through that.

THE FUCK, CactusAnnie?! Unless you are implying that the OP is somehow touting for Botox, I can't see what business that is of yours.

I don't think that whoever manufactures Botox needs to go around astroturfing message boards to drum up interest. There are plenty of people (men and women) who get it done and plenty of us who will tell people how pleased we are with it.

PetiteBateau · 04/05/2015 10:57

I went for a full fringe rather than botox!

emmarowlands · 04/05/2015 11:07

I am a secretary CactusAnnie, and I was inspired to go on mumsnet to chat about my experiences. Isn't that what other women do on here? I feel somewhat offended if someone things any different.

why cannot this be a forum to discuss and share positive Botox experiences, with a separate one created for negative experiences and people who want to discuss why it is potentially bad for you. Then people can decide which way to go themselves.

Aridane · 04/05/2015 12:25

Hi, Petite - it was growing out my fringe that led me to botos Blush

Cantdecideondinner · 04/05/2015 14:34

I've had it twice a year for the last 3 years. I pay £150 for 2 areas and go to a GP who does it from home. I have forehead and 11's and it looks really natural and not at all weird.

Cactus - if you think the OP is not genuine, report her - otherwise stop making personal attacks.

I don't see anything odd in OP posting. She has reached a milestone birthday, taken the Botox plunge and wanted to share her experience with other women as she is not telling anyone in real life.

At the same time, she is also thinking about teeth whitening and has started another thread asking for advice. Clearly she is in the pay not only of The Botox Industry but also The Cosmetic Dentistry Industry... Confused

I wish I had never started this thread if I was going to be slapped down for being enthusiastic. ??

Emma don't be disheartened MN is full of people like Cactus, you had a positive experience so just ignore. I'm going to make an appointment for a consultation today inspired by your thread. My crows feet are so deep am long they reach down my cheeks & im 38 this week. I've found a local dentist who does it so will let you all know how I get on Smile

MrsCampbellBlack · 05/05/2015 06:47

I love botox - just have frown lines done. It makes me look a lot less tired.

Need a top up soon but last appointment was in September so it has lasted well.

So much depends on the practitioner though.

I'm in my early thirties and have been thinking about Botox for a while now. I have had deep frown lines since my late teens / early 20's (thanks to my dad's genes) and I feel it ages my face. I'm lucky to have no 11's of crows feet yet but seriously considering getting something done about the forehead lines. Still wondering if I'm a bit young for Botox though.

Fabulassie · 05/05/2015 17:37

If she were saying that she loved getting Botox at such-and-such clinic in Manchester, you might be right, Annie. But most people mean something generic when they say "botox." Botox is no longer under patent, although it was a brand name.

And the product is popular enough that the companies that produce it don't need to send people out astroturfing message boards.

Aridane · 05/05/2015 18:14

Hi, again.

Are there any long term botox users here?

I have only used once - this year - and like the way I don't look so tired / a bit fresher, but no comments made other than that I look well or that my hair is different Blush.

I'm 50 - so 10 years old than the OP - but was wondering how long, realistically, botox will have the 'freshening' effect? I know the nurse can / will advise me on this in due course - but just wondered if anyone has any experience of botox use after the first one or two treatments?

Thanks!

Fabulassie · 05/05/2015 18:35

Well, I've been getting it for about a year, now. I have heard that if you do it long term, it lasts longer. That said, I notice my brows being able to furrow again in about 12 weeks. This is before I start to look grumpy/tired, but I jump on it pretty quick once I see it's starting to wear off.

Truckingalong · 05/05/2015 19:06

I've been having it for 10 years now. Now I'm older, I have a lighter touch done, otherwise the top half and the bottom half of your face don't really match.
