Which shops are guilty of Vanity Sizing?

I think Next are the worst.
I'm usually a 12, but lately their 12's drown me they are so big.
Yet their arms are usually too tight- on everything.

Gap and Next. And lately Mango.

lottiesatitagain · 29/04/2015 18:33

Mint Velvet

SunnySomer · 29/04/2015 18:37

Hobbs, monsoon, m&s, fat face.
Loads of them actually

NewTwenty · 29/04/2015 18:42

This puzzles me. I am a size 12-14, but I have a size 10 M&S teeshirt purchased in the mid nineties that I can still wear - albeit only for bed. If sizes are getting bigger, why is that the case?

Heels99 · 29/04/2015 18:44

White stuff
Joules

Heels99 · 29/04/2015 18:44

Your t shirt that is over 15 years old has likely stretched.
Bin it.

BunnyLebowski · 29/04/2015 18:45

The worst ones ime are

Dorothy Perkins
Next
M&S
H&M

fairgame · 29/04/2015 18:45

Next and Tesco. Size 8 trousers at Next are massive on me. Yet in other stores such as topshop and new look i can barely squeeze into an 8.

AuntieStella · 29/04/2015 18:45

If you compare to the sizes in 1980s, when U.S. deregulated and everyone followed suit, they all have.

BunnyLebowski · 29/04/2015 18:46

Oh yeah and ALL supermarket fashion ranges. George is particularly bad.

TheOriginalWinkly · 29/04/2015 18:46

H&M depends, I tried on 2 pairs of trousers there on Monday and one was perfect, one was very small.

Agree with fat face. New Look jeans come up massive too.

KissyBoo · 29/04/2015 18:47

I think a lot of the shops have been cutting to a particular silhouette so have been very baggy on top for quite some time to achieve that slouchy top/skinny bottom look.

pootlebug · 29/04/2015 18:47

Nearly all of them, I think….to the point where the old 'normal' is no longer normal.

I think shops predominately aimed at a younger market generally (though not all) have more like old sizes. The more a shop is aimed at 30s/40s/50s, the more likely the vanity sizing. I can't wear an 8 in Topshop but it's positively roomy in M&S and I'm liable to have to swap it for a US2 (i.e. 6) in Gap.

Georgethesecond · 29/04/2015 18:48

Marks
Next
All the supermarkets
Gap

RingtheBells · 29/04/2015 18:52

Next is the worst, I can't get my head around I am now a size 10-12, no hang on, I'm not, I'm a 14 really. What do small people do as they can't size down.

likalixer · 29/04/2015 18:59

And yet, they haven't increased the size of the sleeves in jackets and blouses. (Next)
So you have a top that's massively too big on, with arms that are way too tight (my arms aren't big)

New Look are the worst for badly proportioned arms.
Some of those shirty things, where you can wear the sleeves down and buttoned up at the wrist, or rolled up and buttoned up mid-arm - won't do up at all. They haven't cut the material wide enough for it to do up at the mid-arm area.

Why is this pootlebug? Confused

Next sizing is terrible. Their 10s are really a 14 in most shops.

MonoNoAware · 29/04/2015 19:03

Next is ridiculous. Also, the last few things I've had from Boden have drowned me.

21pc · 29/04/2015 19:05

Gap is the biggest culprit of this! When I was thinner and a 8 in other shops their smallest sizes were too big

fairgame · 29/04/2015 19:05

South at Very is always huge as well.

awfulomission · 29/04/2015 19:06

M&S.

I'm a 14. I always have been. Yet suddenly, there, I'm a 12. Who knew?!

seventeen · 29/04/2015 19:09

I came on to say Next. I bought a size 10 pair of jeans in there recently and I'm usually a 12/14.

likalixer · 29/04/2015 19:10

Did they think we came down in the next shower?

OP posts:
OnlyLovers · 29/04/2015 19:14

ALL of them!

Gap, Toast, J Crew, Joseph ... to name a few recent brushes with so-called size 6s and 8s that were like yurts on me.
