Oooh sore :( Like you I had to drop toners, serums and just rinsed cleanser with a splash of water. Mine is feeling better, less red and tight and the flakiness has now gone. I have used TONS of nappy rash cream and this skin repair cream. I rather suspect that time has done most of the work though.
I'm having another go, maybe Sunday and see how that goes. In my panic this week I ordered this miracle mask thingy so I've got emergency supplies if needs be! I'll feedback on how it works, it says it's for sore, red, reactive skin...

FrugalFashionista · 01/05/2015 08:35

Coconut I am sorry! Ladies take it slow with these products, some of them are super potent. I am happy so far with glycolic pads but have learned in the past that too much of a good thing can mean sore skin and complicated problems like perioral (=you have to discontinue everything), rosacea flareups or breakouts. And sun damage and hyperpigmentation are also something to worry about. I love the ideas on this thread but let's not overdo it!

My skin is feeling great and super smooth but I have a pimple on my chin Confused

CoconutAmericano · 01/05/2015 08:36

How many days before your skin calmed down cathy?

Euphemia im sorry you're also experiencing 'the burn' but is it terrible im taking some comfort from not being the only one?! I sincerely hope we come through the other side soon Sad

Girls im freaking myself out thinking what if i got a dodgey cream with dodgey ingredients?? Shock

CoconutAmericano · 01/05/2015 08:39

I only used a pea sized amount on my face and just my forehead chin and cherks, and only the 0.025%. That's what's freaking me out. I did it properly! Ok, ok i shouldnt have done my neck. But my face is burnt too albeit not as badly. Girls i say it again, leave the neck area alone. You have been warned lol

pinkelephantnightclub · 01/05/2015 08:39

Kundry- which Paula's Choice BHA do you recommend- need BHA as have blackheads- currently only salicylic in my routine is Effaclar K (will switch to duo when I use up my 3 tubes!)- thanks

CoconutAmericano · 01/05/2015 08:40

Oh and i just used it the one time.

cathyandclaire · 01/05/2015 09:29

It's 4 days since I applied it.
Like Euphemia I've had Retin A loads in the past and Roaccutane with very few problems, obviously my ageing skin is not as tolerant as my oily/acned skin was.
DD just sloshes on the 0.1% with gay abandon, no pinkness, no peeling.
I mentioned higher up the thread that her dermatologist suggested she apply the Retin A and then wash it off an hour later for the first week, to allow her skin to get used to it. She ignored him Grin but could be an idea for the sensitive flowers amongst us.

MrsGuyGarvey · 01/05/2015 11:35

Well I was peeling after using the retin A three days on the trot so have been very gentle with my skin and focusing on hydration. Last night I gave the retin a 0.025 a go AND did my neck with no problems so far, I won't do it again until this time next week and build up slowly. However I think I read somewhere that sometime the peel comes two days later so tomorrow morning might bring the horrors. I found Aquaphor very good on the peeling for those of you who look very 'ouch'.

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 11:41

I'd be happy to see more hydrating toners going on after the acid tone fellow quichers!

cathyandclaire · 01/05/2015 12:45

Is Clinique moisture surge spray a hydrating toner? I've got a sample somewhere but never knew what to do with it?

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 12:51

Yes CH has mentioned that one cathy it's very hydrating.

LatinForTelly · 01/05/2015 13:01

Twitchcoco I've got what I think is a hydrating toner, but it's not a spray one, so if I dab it on with cotton wool, am I wiping off the goodness of the acid tone (eg my clearasil pads say do not wash off)?

cathyandclaire · 01/05/2015 13:07

Brilliant thanks, my addiction to Clinique Bonus Time is finally paying off!!

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 13:21

You can decant it into a spray bottle latin or I'm sure a dab with cotton wool would be ok. Just make sure the acid stage has dried. Maybe leave a few minutes in between.

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 13:32

Toners cheat sheet from CH. Last paragraph mentions application and using two types.

14575 · 01/05/2015 14:13

So, I've been paid and I'm off to lloyds chemist for some acid toner for my dehydrated skin. What's a good place to start?

Sallystyle · 01/05/2015 14:27

I just got a serum from B&M, or is it B&W? that discount store Grin

It is called BALANCE Hyaluronic 554 Youth serum.

It was very cheap and it is really nice if anyone is interested.

LexLoofah · 01/05/2015 15:20

twitch I have ordered two exfoliating toners (nip fab & LRP effaclar) so can use AM and PM - help please what are examples of hydrating toners? I see CH mentions ingredients but could do with knowing a few names to point me in the right direction. I was just planning on spritzing with rose water, is that not enough?

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 15:28

lex it's my understanding that just roses after will evaporate from your skin taking much needed moisture with it.

Humectants suck in moisture from the air so things withlglycerin are good.

On her blog she has a post called top 10 spritz toners and she mentions the Clinique moisture surge spray as well as the Caudalie grape water I bought yesterday for a tenner in Lloyds. I'll find her link...

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 15:29

Roses after? I meant rosewater duh.

LexLoofah · 01/05/2015 15:53

twitch thanks that makes sense, I was going off the rosewater mentioned in her routine cheat sheet but if I can get a hydrating one with glycerin or hyluaronic that would be even better. I do like the smell of rosewater though, seem to have an inner old lady dying to get out!

Kundry · 01/05/2015 16:01

pinkelephantnightclub you want a 2% BHA product from Paula's Choice.

I'm currently using Clinique Mild Exfoliating Lotion and it is nowhere near as good - then I noticed it is 0.5% salicylic, well of course it isn't as good as 2%!

I had the 2% Skin Perfecting lotion and found two squirts gave just slightly too much product to apply to the whole of my face. It was quite thick, more like a moisturiser and did take a bit of effort not to look streaky.

If I was buying again I'd probably buy the Resist treatment CH reviewed or one of the gels to see what a different consistency was like. But that just my product preference - using the Clinique I've discovered I don't really like tipping product onto a cottonwool pad as I think loads is wasted in the pad. So for me I probably won't like the liquid, the lotion wasn't quite right but a gel or the treatment would hopefully be the perfect consistency.

I'd also go for the Resist range being 40 rather than the Clear which is more her young skin/acne range. I think which product you get from which range is really down to personal preference for consistency - the 2% BHA is the key bit.

noddyholder · 01/05/2015 16:01

I use the balance activ one from amazon very good

Twitchcoco · 01/05/2015 16:01

Ah, I see she mentions just plain rosewater in her routines sheet. I just prefer something with glycerin in. Sorry, I've probably confused things further!

I get in a bit of a muddle on her website so it's great to share ideas here. Thanks :)

LexLoofah · 01/05/2015 16:06

twitch no need to apologize, I appreciate the advice and explanations, now all I need to do is find a hydrating one that smells of roses.... Smile
