Ladies im not sure about the tretinoin Confused. My face was very red and sunburnt looking last night. I have sore red marks on my neck. I only used a pea sized amount on my face and another on my neck at 0.025% strength. Everything stung like a bugger again this morning. My serum, my bb cream, it all stung like mad on application. Is anyone else experiencing this??

Badgerlady · 30/04/2015 08:40

untamedshrew thank you for the explanation of Micellar water.

Re cetaphil. I am using it and the LRP Phisiology cleanser. I find the latter astringent - despite having no alcohol I can really feel it (if that makes sense). The cetaphil just feels nice and clean.

I used the clearasil pads for the fest time last night and they really stung! However I am waiting for the LRP Effaclar duo to arrive. I have also ordered a sample of the 2% BHA sensitive from Paula's choice.

I think my skin is quite sensitive so I'm taking baby steps rather than startling it with lots of new products.

Interestingly when I was in boots yesterday there was another lady who I am convinced has read CH/these tjreads. We first met by the cetaphil. Then reached the clearisal shelf together. I then bumped into again by the fish oil :-).

Sallystyle · 30/04/2015 08:43

I am lucky as the tretinoin is not making me red, dry or sore at all. I am very lucky. Most people get the same symptoms as you Coconut.

From reading the other thread you need to stop applying it now until your face is back to normal. How often are you applying it? maybe start with once a week and if that is still too much you can buffer it with moisturiser.

I don't know for sure but I don't think you should be using a pea sized amount for your neck at all? I am not applying mine to the neck but if I did it would be less than a pea to start with.

Ooh a quiche!! I've never been in a quiche before
I'm 42, have dehydrated flaky skin, or rather I did with the odd spot & quite deep lines by my mouth.
I often get told I don't look my age but that's because I'm very fat, you don't get wrinkles on a balloon do you?
But next month I'm having weight loss surgery & I hope to lose half my body weight, and my face will suffer.
So I started a serious regime in the hope of staving off too much sagging & damage.
At present I'm using:
AM
Micellar water to cleanse (Garnier at the moment)
FAB pads or N+F glycolic pads
Vichy Aqualia serum
LRP Hydraphase UV Intense Riche cream

PM:
Superdrug vit E hot cloth cleanser
Same Micellar water
Then either Alpha H LG (2-3 nights a week) or
LRP Nutritic Intense Riche.

But I read on CH's blog that she doesn't rate MW so I think I'm going to change that to the LRP Physiological cleansing milk or maybe use up the Cetaphil that's in my bathroom cabinet.
I realised yesterday that this is the first month in forever that I haven't broken out in several hormonal spots, so maybe something is working. My skin is certainly a lot less flaky and dry than it was. And I have MN to thank for that!
I have ordered some 0.025% retinol and I will have to work out how to shoehorn that into my routine
Also, I need to get some spf protection. I will read back over the threads for suggestions.

CremeDeSudo · 30/04/2015 08:45

I'm joining too! Will be back to add info later. Been obsessed with skincare for about two months now. I can probably share before and after pics too!

plumstone · 30/04/2015 09:06

Well night one of LG and it was disappointingly OK/bit meh! Joking aside I was expecting big things, its fine, skin is no different to using Bouncy Sleep mask smooth and clear - which is no bad thing, thinking about it really don't know what I wanted from it - ah well its here now so will keep going with both on alternate nights!

Cetaphil - rubbish for removal of make up, but I love it am and pm second cleanse, one pump, massage in, hot cloth off - skin feels lovely and clean not tight at all

Badger Lady - I am a big fan of Muji stuff for travel - they do great see though plastic bags which are way more sturdy than the airport ones and they zip, their clear plastic bottles & tubs great for skin care. hair care - I always buy on arrival - or go with dry shampoo and a zhoojy messy trying to be stylish bun!! have a great time away!!!

CandyApocalypse · 30/04/2015 09:07

Posted on the wrong thread. Typical.

I have been counting down the days till pay day so I could join this thread. I'm waiting for a call from the bank to ask if there has been fraud on my account given how much I have just spent online.

I have dry, sensitive skin which can be prone to redness. I have gone for two acid toners, Body Shop camomile balm and Cetaphil for cleansing. Am going to try out a serum I saw on Amazon which has some really good reviews and have also bought a decent facial oil for evening. Thought I was finished emptying my bank account and then remembered I needed some face cloths. Oh dear.

cathyandclaire · 30/04/2015 09:09

me too me too!

I had oily skin and acne until it was blitzed with roaccutane when I was 40. Since then I really don't know what I'm doing with my skin, I've always treated it the same as I did, this thread has shown me the error of my ways.

I'm 47, skin is now dehydrated, sensitive and with (maybe) tendency to mild rosacea on nose and nasolabial area.

AM: Superfacialist rose cleanser/C+P
FAB pads
Trilogy Rosehip (Given up on Hydraluron) or REN radiant Vit c serum
Clinique Moisture surge (free sample and I LOVE this)
Antihelios factor 50
PM: Clinique Take the Day off
Rose Cleanser
FAB pads
Testing Neals Yard Frankincense oil (samples off EBay, lovely so far)
Moisture surge

BUT my skin is screaming after trying Retin A twice (4 days apart) so just using bucketloads of Sudocreme at the moment and waiting on samples of assorted soothing/anti-redness/ calming lotions and potions.

CoconutAmericano · 30/04/2015 09:11

Thanks u2. I might leave my neck completely. I know Hot wnd Flashy cant do hers either. I am only doing it once a week. I'll try one more application i think..

ilovetosleep · 30/04/2015 09:34

Haha badger me too - another lady and I were following each other round boots reading the ingredients on all the LRP products and eyeing up hylamide :)

CoconutAmericano · 30/04/2015 09:40

Oh and eh, what's a quiche? Blush

GatoNaranja · 30/04/2015 10:25

Thanks Bigbuttons. I was using the 0.25% stuff already but wasn't getting any reaction or change from it at all. The 0.1% stuff I plan to build up to using two to three times a week. I tried for first time last night, skin quite red today but might be due to all the acid I've been using too. So am going to leave it a week and see what happens!

GatoNaranja · 30/04/2015 10:26

(Leave the tretonin and acid peels for a week but continue with beauty routine)

cathyandclaire · 30/04/2015 10:31

Great post from CH today on what to do if your skin is confused, a mixture of any of dry/sensitive/spotty/oily/dehydrated/ageing/pigmented etc. Really helpful advice on what to tackle first

Bottom line is sort sensitivity issues first, then dehydration, then the rest.

Sallystyle · 30/04/2015 10:57

LaPomme they are both different acids.

Clearasil is Salicylic and FAB are Glycolic.

I alternate days because of the retin A but you can use one AM and the other PM. CH doesn't recommend using the clearasil twice a day but you can use the FAB twice a day.

I'm not sure if they do different things but CH recommends both so I use both.

Retin A is better than liquid gold I am sure. It is the only thing proven to help the anti ageing process and even reverse it a little I believe. Retin A is much stronger though but you will get much better results with it than liquid gold.

I haven't used my LG yet because with the Retin A I don't think it will do anything that Retin A won't do much better.

plumstone · 30/04/2015 11:02

Thanks Edge - I will keep going with it, I hate wastage and have space and storage issues - and then see how we are going and investigate Retin A!

I've got those LaPomme they seem to be ok. Don't smell that nice but they give me the same tingly feeling that the FAB pads do.
Can't say how well they work as I chuck so much stuff at my face I can't decide what is having the effect I'm experiencing but they seem good, nice & wet so plenty of product on each pad.

Itsalldramarama · 30/04/2015 12:17

I've just started on the nip and fab pads , can see a difference unlined straight away albeit temporary but hoping will get more permanent !! A bit drying and tightening but rectified once serum / moisturiser used , I would recommend :)

Itsalldramarama · 30/04/2015 12:18
  • on lines !!!
CandyApocalypse · 30/04/2015 13:24

Thought I'd type out my planned routine in full in case I have anything wrong.

AM
Cleanse: Cetaphil.
Acid tone: Nip and Fab pads (glycolic acid).
Serum: InstaNatural serum.
Moisturise: Aveeno (use separate SPF).

PM
1st cleanse: Body Shop camomile cleanser.
2nd cleanse: Cetaphil.
Acid tone: Eucerin toner (lactic acid).
Serum: InstaNatural serum.
Moisturise: Botanics organic facial oil.

I need to get a retinol based moisturiser or some LG, but may have to wait till next month now. Also unsure if I should be using serum and oil at night, but will see how my skin is.

For anyone interested, I was originally going to try the FAB radiance pads instead of the Nip and Fab, but read a few blogs that all said they noticed more of a difference with the latter. Will see for myself when they arrive.

ilovetosleep · 30/04/2015 13:33

I have a question about clearasil pads. I just boight the ony pads they had in boots and I think they are the wrong ones- they are clearasil ultra in a blue pot but I think I need the super fruits ones in a pink box? Does anyone know if they are essentially the same ingredients/concentrations? I didn't think I needed salicylic as I rarely get spots but I've been doing my new routine for 10days now and little pimples keep popping up! Is this a normal part of a new regime?

bigbuttons · 30/04/2015 13:35

it doesn't matter which type of clearasil pad. Don't worry, they all have salicylic acid and that is what you need Smile
