I've not used one, and I think it depends on the mask, but I believe most of them are used after serum and in place of a moisturiser though. If you're thinking CH recommendations she rates the Origins Drink Up mask, Body Shop Bouncy sleep mask (something like that) and the Bio-essence one and I think the reviews of those on her website have her recommended usage.

plumstone · 06/05/2015 15:19

Ilove, I use the Bouncy Sleep Mask - love it and alternate with LG - for me its

PM
Single cleanse with Cetaphil and hot cloth
Tone acid glycol pads then spritz of Vit E body shop
Serum
Sleep mask

If its a LG night, then just single cleanse and then apply LG and bed!

Hope this helps

AppleYumYum · 06/05/2015 16:30

Hmm I like the idea of these 20% glycolic acid pads.

Plumstone so you are liking the Malin and Goetz pads? Nice simple ingredients list, did you get them from SpaceNK?

CindyEcstacy · 06/05/2015 16:37

I've been following these threads but not really contributed until now as always on iphone/ipad. Finally got the laptop out.

Over the last few weeks I've been adopting a CH regime, having previously been a shower-gel in the bath slattern..

Today I bought new cleansers and a spritz toner - will list what I'm doing below

AM:
Double cleanse -
Superdrug Vit E oil cleanser
Superdrug Radiance hot cloth cleanser

Alternating Nip & Fab Glycolic pads with Stridex salicylic (2%) pads

Superdrug Vit E spritz (just bought today)

Oz Vit C Serum - just arrived yesterday but feels lovely on. Was previously using Balance Hyalurinic serum bought at TK Maxx

Sunsense 50SPF Daily Face

PM:
Double cleanse/acid tone/spritz - as AM

Alternating Retin-A 0.025% (thanks to U2) with Bravura 15% GA gel (hoping to build up to 0.5% Retin-A)

Rosehip oil if feeling dry

It seems like I'm putting sooo much stuff in my face. I have to wait ages between each layer to sink in before I do the next one

Skin deffo looks shinier and clearer though - but main problems are old pigmentation and shallow acne scars....

CindyEcstacy · 06/05/2015 16:38

Sorry for the epic post!

Apple - no Liberty - I work in central London and could go there and back to work in my lunch hour. However when I was in there (never been before it was a minefield Grin) they had pixiglow and the M&G ones spent ages thinking about it and went with the M&G which I like but may mix it up with the Pixi Glow when these are finished - M&G 50 in a tub and £38 and the Pixi was £18. I also have a tester of the Clinique Exfoliating toner - which advises only once a week wear - Have dabbled with once - very Meh! M&G are good in that no reaction, happy with the results and seem to like me - so may stick with them - Really don't know how I am meant to make decisions like this when I still need all ten figures to add up!!!!! Grin grin]

CindyEcstacy · 06/05/2015 16:51

Minimum of 20 mins - I usually do a layer and then go off and potter doing something else

CindyEcstacy · 06/05/2015 16:52

Usually more like 30-45 mins

I'm just waiting until I can't feel the last layer IYKWIM

Both the acid pads and the serums leave me feeling tacky

I was looking into sleep masks. There are Japanese ones on ebay which get very good reviews. It reminded me of the conversation upthread about how brilliant asian products were. The Japanese products I already have are my preferred products, especially the sunscreen.
There are some gel over night masks that get very good reviews elsewhere and cost peanuts. Like 3.99 including p&p from Japan!I'm going to get some!
Will report back.I love Ch but I can't afford a good 99% of the staff she recommends. And know it isn't worth the money in that it is HUGELY overpriced, all of it is.Sad

Bigbuttons I've read a lot Asian skincare blogs, they all say that you can get active ingredients in drugstore cosmetics there that are definitely h/e in Europe and the Americas. (And that high-end and discount Asian brands all use the same high-tech ingredients, and that they are at least a decade ahead of us.) My experience is very limited so far, but I've gotten a lot of bang for my buck already and am totally converted. The high upfront cost of Euro skincare and the unpredictabily whether products really suit my skin has been the main reason why I have never been to skincare. If I can find high quality at drugstore prices, I'm totally sold...

I'm experimenting with a couple of inexpensive Korean drugstore series now, if they are any good I'll share links later. You can mail order directly from Asia, everything is very cheap, but it can take a bit longer and in some countries you have to deal with customs or pay the local VAT. If you prefer an UK-based vendor, I found this. Their offering are really intriguing... The sheet masks are a cheap luxury, definitely worth buying, lots on eBay.

Queensansastark I used to wear Chanel foundation but it is now in my use up/bin pile after I realized that Asian BB creams are much more compatible with my skin. Dr Jart and Missha are fab and you can get really sheer or medium coverage. Missha M Perfect Cover is a popular starting point, it is actually quite sheer.

Ordering an Asian sunscreen is on my to-do list!
And now I'm going to clean my face and relax with a sheet mask...

bigbuttons · 06/05/2015 18:28

frugal thanks
I am going to get the DAISO HA overnight mask. Reviews are saying it can be used as moisture sealant during the day too. One review said it was like using a lotion mask all day long. I could put my nada labo underneath and the gel on top!
I am, only looking on ebay at the moment, but i would like to go direct to companies, just don't know which ones! Can you recommend any reliable ones? ta x
I have the Biore sun milk. I really, really wish they did bigger bottles. I bloody love the stuff. it's really protecting, goes on silky smooth, sinks in right away and makes my face feel like a baby's bum!

Would love to hear which Korean products you get on with Frugal :) I have been using a Korean bb creams for years as they really suit my pale skin but even the holika holika moisture was being sucked dry by my previously dry skin. It looked fabulous yesterday though Grin

FrugalFashionista · 06/05/2015 19:41

Most of my Korean stuff is from the US, you can buy it in places like Sephora and Target. So far, I've tried products from Dr Jart, Missha, Mizon and am going to give Laneige a try shortly. Some Dr Jart BB creams are available at Boots, not sure whether their skincare is too. Their firming sleeping mask is a bit pricey but ace, my favorite so far. Would love to explore this range further, everything I have tried has exceeded my expectations.

Mizon is cheap stuff, but if you are impatient, there is a sampler on Cult Beauty - the markup is pretty hefty though. I've tried all of those products except the starfish cream, all have been really hydrating but not greasy, no breakouts. These seem like nice intro/workhorse products, but probably not particularly cutting-edge by Korean standards. If you have very dry skin, the products are to light.

Missha has several online stores across Europe but nothing in the UK. The German store delivers to most EU countries (cost: a couple of euros) and has an English-language sister site (reviews in German though). I have an order arriving So far, I've used Missha BBs, sheet masks and a fizzy O2 BB cleanser that is the weirdest skincare product I have ever encountered. Have been quite impressed with their quality. Here is a relatively inexpensive trial kit. The site is slightly paleolithic - you have to register to fill your shopping basket...

Other Korean labels you might like to look into: Etude House, Innisfree, AmorePacific, Cremorlab. I'm sure there are lots of others but I'm still a newbie Blush Innisfree have an English-language site that allows orders directly from Korea. And on eBay you can try searching for Korean samples.

These products are not for everyone. They are not particularly natural, and some use weird animal derived stuff. But in my very limited experience they really work, and many are engineered to give you a wonderful glow and flawless skin. I hope the Korean trend catches on here in Europe - I would really love to buy all of these products locally Wink

FrugalFashionista · 06/05/2015 19:48

And here is the best intro to Korean skincare I have found so far.
Good product reviews too.

I just opened the door to DH wearing a sheet mask.
He laughed his head off - I do look like a serial killer Wink

FreddieMercurysBolero · 06/05/2015 20:03

Oooh mumsnet skincare quiche!!

rubs hands together

I'm not CH's number 1 fan, but I do agree with some of her recommendations. Skincare addiction on Reddit is a fab resource, if you can avoid the drama! I also love Asian skincare products, generally cheaper and better quality than European stuff.

I have oily/dehydrated, acne prone skin with large pores and sebaceous filaments. Don't I sound lovely!

My current routine:

AM:

Clarins cleansing lotion with microfiber cloth.

Benton snail bee essence (serum)

OST C20 vitamin C serum (trialling this at the moment as I don't like DIY bit c serum, too stingy and sticky, and further reading suggests too much room for error. I'd rather one with ferulic acid though, so on the hunt for a reasonably priced one).

Aldi lacura night cream (the day cream has a nasty spf and pills on me)

Biore watery essence spf 50.

PM:

Cleanse with garnier micellar water.

Cleanse with no7 melting cleanser gel and microfibre cloth.

Apply le dodgy retin a from eBay.

Apply Aldi night cream after half an hour.

I use salicylic acid 10% from bravura once a week. I skip the retin a that night.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 06/05/2015 20:35

goodasitgets, how do you find the Nip/Fab wrinkle fix? I have that on my wish list....(I've decided I need plumping and filling more than anything else!)

Think I am definitely ditching the Retin so if anyone wants my 2 tubes, and is prepared to wait a week or so (am in Italy) then they can PM me and I will send them.

Frugal, you are doing my shopping list no good at all! Grin I already stalk you on the perfume threads!

plumstone · 06/05/2015 20:35

Just been on Pin re Korean skin care, there is loads, 12 steps FFS - as Frugal, mentioned they are available in Sephora, in the. US that is Saturdays afternoon sorted! Must remember I am there to work!! However am planning to bulk buy sheet masks, P50 toner as per CH, and Kate Sommerville Goat milk moisturiser. Think that should do for the moment! Grin

m0gz · 06/05/2015 20:53

Thanks Frugal. I was looking at a mizon sleep mask but I think I need to do some more research first :) I didn't get on that well with the missha bb creams, holika seemed to suit me better but I'm going to give them another go as my skin is so much better now.

My dh can't laugh at anything I'm doing to my face at the moment as I have got him doing it as well Grin

Secretsout · 06/05/2015 21:02

Hi all, can I have some retin A advice? I'm gradually adding stuff to my routine. In the last 10 days I've added the clearasil ultra pads (morning) then a few days later the nip and fab glycolic fix pads at night. Next week I'm introducing my new REN keep young and beautiful serum - not sure whether to do this morning and night....any thoughts?

Tonight I've done my second 50% glycolic peel in the last 10 days (first time I've done it this year and I'm definitely pinker tonight than the one I did 10 days ago but I've put this down to the addition of the pads I'm doing)

So I'd like to know if I should introduce a Retin A product to the mix and if so what percentage and how often? Should I do it once a week with the 50% glycolic in between i.e. One every 3-4 days? The glycol peel you are supposed to do weekly for 6 weeks then a couple of weeks off and restart so could I do Retin A in the time off?

Sallystyle · 06/05/2015 21:04

Two massive cystic spots today :(

Is this just the purge, perhaps?
