Those that make your own vitamin C serum - where do you get the bits from and what do you get? Would like to try this

DrankSangriaInThePark · 06/05/2015 08:27

Now then.

I re-introduced the Retin A on Monday, and this morning have got horrible little spots. About 20 split between the two sides of my face. Could it be the Retin?

If it is, then I'm not going to use it anymore...I did come out like that a few weeks ago, but that was when I introduced acid toner, retin, and a new moisturiser all at once.

If we, as a quiche, decide it is the Retin, then I've got 2 tubes of Thai Johnson's that someone can have!

Morning All, well I am definitely using less make up, this morning after SPF, squeezed out normal amount of BB cream and after doing my usual thing with it and a sponge, seemed to have loads left, but very chuffed that just a bit a cream blush, eyebrow pencil and lip gloss and I was out the door. Don't think I have used that little make up since I was about 21!!!!!!! I am not into heavy eye or lip make up but am base obsessed, methinks I can step away from that obsession and move onto Skin care - however I guess if the basics are good then everything else will follow!!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

Itsalldramarama · 06/05/2015 09:13

Have been (gradually) changing to a new CH based routine for a couple of weeks now. Haven't noticed much yet though I think my colour is brighter and my makeup doesn't dissapear as easily.

Two things:

  1. A few people upthread asking about the Oz Naturals vit C serum, I have been using it for about 7 days (bought on amazon) and so far so good. It is very runny, like water. I just take about 1/3 of the dropper and drop it into the palm of my hand and apply with fingers (after cleansing and acid tone in the am) and it doesn't sting or anything. It dries really quickly (20 seconds) and feels slightly tacky, so not an oily/moisturising fee, but I feel it is there to do a job rather than feel gorgeous! I follow with moisturiser, then spf then foundation. I can't say for sure what difference it has made but I guess its a longer term project. I am using LRP redermic at night to compliment the Vit C.
But anyhow - I am very happy with the product so far.

I bought the indeed labs hydralauron and don't really rate that - feels tight and tacky on me.

  1. a few people mentioned we're not supposed to acid tone while using retinol but thats part of CH "routines" sheet, isn't it ? I've been using Nip & Fab pads and clearasil fruit pads (pixie glow and paulas choice 2% BHA on the shopping list) and then LRP redermic straight after with no problems. Is this wrong ???
mowglik · 06/05/2015 09:59

Great tip lapomme I've been using my glycolic acid pads on the back of my hands and behind my neck as well where it gets a bit grimy from hair products

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 10:00

I've been swiping my acid pad leftovers on the back of my hands.

CoconutAmericano · 06/05/2015 10:09

Morning all you gorgeous glowing ladies Smile.

I have laid completely off my acids after my burning issues. I think my skin just couldn't cope with the Retin A and the acids all at the same time so this week I just used the Retin A and I haven't had any reaction, burning or sensitivity whatsoever, yay!

I am going to introduce everything really slowly, as I have learned the hard way not to overload my skin. This morning I used my Timeless Vit C serum for the first time. No stinging. Happy days. In a week or two I plan on reintroducing my aha and bha acids. One by one, giving each a week on their own. I think this will be a very slow and methodical process for me.

Fabulassie · 06/05/2015 10:15

babyiwantabump I got my stuff off Amazon. The Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) powder I got was this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D1PSLB6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

Holland and Barratt carry it but I don't know if the crystals are very fine. The stuff doesn't dissolve very easily so the finer the powder, the better. Some people use a little mortar and pestle to grind it down even further.

Boots carries less and less actual chemicals. You can't even get rubbing alcohol from them any more. But another chemist - a proper chemist - may well carry distilled water and vegetable glycerine. I got them off of amazon which was probably not the cheapest way to go. Having since read this, I realise that for this purpose, deionized water is as good as distilled:

www.distilleddeionizedwater.com/deionized-water-vs-distilled-water/

And you can get deionized water from Asda or anywhere that sells basic car care stuff (it will be by the car wax and motor oils) because it's suitable for putting into radiators or batteries or whatever one does. It will certainly be cheaper than paying to ship a bottle of water ordered on Amazon as I did.

The final thing is a blue or amber glass bottle. Easily ordered on Amazon. I further shield the stuff by putting the bottle in a child's sock but you can just pop it into your medicine cabinet away from light.

If you can get deionized water and l-ascorbic acid, and a brown bottle, you're good to go. The glycerin is an optional extra that isn't really necessary, but some people like it. I find it makes my face feel tacky and I won't be putting it into my next batch.

AppleYumYum · 06/05/2015 10:55

Well so far my skin is much smoother, like baby smooth! Hyperpigmentation looking a bit faded but I think that was from the home TCA 12% peels I have been doing, three so far.

Mostly I am enjoying the routine itself, I look forward to when the dc are in bed and I can spend 10 minutes with a nice warm flannel and my haul of lotions and potions! Grin. Although I don't know what I am doing, I need to print out an order of service as I can't remember what order after the cleansing part!

I have only used the Liquid Gold for the first time last night, and using the the REN clarifying toner the other times. Did someone say CH doesn't think it is any good though? What is the ultimate toner if you want to use 'natural' type brands?

I am loving the Melvita Rose Extraordinary Water, I like the texture and it smells lovely. The Madara Cleansing Milk is great so far which I use in the morning, and my favourite has been the Melvita Milky Cleansing Oil which smells amazing. I use that first at night straight onto my make up, then second cleanse with my old stalwart Jurlique purifying foaming cleaner - which I must have used since my teenage years of acne as it was the only face wash that never made my skin breakout, although I am not sure if I should use it now seeing as it contains the evil foaming word, but I have two bottles to use up).

RitaOrange · 06/05/2015 11:22

Skin feels lovely today but I have a stubborn spot and am avoiding make up so look grotty and old Sad

I've definitely noticed a difference in old acne scars this morning, they've gone right down and aren't as red or bumpy. Got a couple of little monthly spots but not as big as I normally get.

Just need to sort out my make up now as need something that will stay on my face for a full days work.

plumstone · 06/05/2015 12:11

Lapomme - I have been using Malin and Goetz acid toning pads on the back of arms for a week or so - my kp is lessening by the day - as are my ingrown hairs on my bikini line - TMI sorry!!! Also helping on legs a couple of days prior to waxing/shaving - Glycolic is my new BFF!!!

For travelling I am bulk buying muji bottles little plastic jars and decanting and using my label maker - slight OCD - shampoo and conditioner I buy on arrival.

As a by the by - can anyone advise on a non drying body wash, currently feel that from collar bone down, I am not as glowy and sparkly as my face and need to up the shower routine - any good shower gels scrubs etc that people recommend? thanks

Teladi · 06/05/2015 12:31

Thanks for the feedback and words of caution on my post earlier. I will take it very slowly and remind myself that the goal is for my skin to look better and not to have as much stuff on my face as possible!

queensansastark · 06/05/2015 14:09

So. Went out and bought the clinique cc cream today, I wanted SPF and something to moisturise and even out my skin on top of my (Caudalie SOS serum) without the feel of full on foundation. It's pretty good, IF I have a good skin day, but I still prefer the finish of Chanel's vitalumiere.

Any other suggestions please for a light foundation with SPF/ cc/bb cream? Unfortunately my benchmark is set quite high at the Chanel vitalumiere level....

Am I out if touch /out of date with foundation for radiant skin? What s the latest thing out there please?

ilovetosleep · 06/05/2015 14:11

How to fit it all in?! I have so many new products that I probably shouldn't have bought (and things on my wish list!) and I don't know what to use when!

Is it ok to alternate salicylic and glycolic each day, or will that affect their effectiveness? And then if I have also stupidly bought a AHA treatment when would I add that in?

And serums - I want them all! So if I want a hydrating serum, and a retinol serum, and a vit C serum, how would I alternate those? I was thinking maybe the Vit C in the morning, and then alternate the other two in the evenings? And if I want to throw in a hydrating mask somewhere, when would I do that?!

twitchcoco Which Caudalie spritz toner do you use? I think you're right, £20 is a bit excessive for the balance Me one as lovely as it sounds. I tried a sample of balance me cleansing balm last night and it was lovely, my skin felt so nicely moisturised afterwards.

Nabootique · 06/05/2015 14:34

It's okay to alternative salicylic and glycolic. If you have a treatment you can use that at the toning stage, but skip the actual toning that night.

I would use those serums as you have said, as I find vitamin C to be brightening, which is more useful during the day (seems wasteful to be all bright and glowy at night when you're off to bed!).

Masks would be between cleansing and acid toning, unless you meant a leave on one you sleep in?

Twitchcoco · 06/05/2015 14:35

Caudalie grape water mist. £10 for 200ml white can.

Nabootique · 06/05/2015 14:37

GERTI They are fine to use twice a day as long as you're not extremely sensitive. They're pretty mild. I used them twice a day when I started acid toning.

ilovetosleep · 06/05/2015 14:45

Thanks for that. I did mean a sleep in mask, so I think I would do cleanse, acid tone, mask? Or cleanse, acid tone, serum, moisturiser, mask?
