Is acid toner not really harsh on your skin?

JanineStHubbins · 04/05/2015 17:25

Bit of peeling on my cheeks today - overuse of acid, I wonder? I've been using Glycolic N+F Pads Am and Clearasil Salyclic PM.

I also have a nasty and sore spot in my under-eye circle Confused which is wrecking my head. Never had a blemish there before. Spots on my chin are slowly shrinking, but still very red.

I didn't use Retin-A last night.

prettywhiteguitar · 04/05/2015 17:26

I read that tizwailor as it's damage to your skin, laser can further damage your skin.

Oz has a retin a moisturiser I might buy that too

SkodaLabia · 04/05/2015 17:29

Thanks Kundry. Can you explain where in the order of my routine I'd put retinol and sunscreen?

Cleanse with TDDO or Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Cleansing Gel
Clinique Mild Exfoliator (only added this a week ago)
Hylamide serum
Clinique moisture quenching moisturiser

Yes, I like the Hylamide, although it smells a bit weird!

JanineStHubbins · 04/05/2015 17:35

I think sunscreen after moisturiser, Skoda. And retinol at night (after cleansing/toning).

Kundry · 04/05/2015 17:40

Gem124 the strengths of acid available in toner products shouldn't be harsh on your skin. Your skin surface is acidic anyway. If you have oily/combination skin it will really get rid of spots and even if not, you should just have a gentle invisible lifting of dead layers of skin - it's kinder to your skin than scrubbing at it with rough particles. I use one of the peel products and just get a slight tingle and redness for a few minutes, my skin is so much healthier than it was before.

Janine a few of us have had spots in weird places on starting acids and/or retinol, it's great your chin spots are shrinking.

SkodaLabia SPF is last product before makeup in the morning. Retinol depends what product you buy but is usually after serum, before moisturiser. I'm glad you like the hylamide, I'm really looking forward to using it, the Hydraluron seems to be taking ages to use up!

JanineStHubbins · 04/05/2015 17:41

Thanks Kundry. Is slathering one's face with Sudocrem recommended for the peeling side of things? Or would that just break me out again?

SkodaLabia · 04/05/2015 17:46

Has anyone tried Cane & Austin SPF50?

Or Bobbi Brown SPF50 Face Base?

Kundry · 04/05/2015 17:56

Slathering your face with Sudocrem would not be recommended Grin Sudocrem is really oily and is supposed to be a barrier cream. I think it does a weird mix of healing, drying, clogging pores so if you get the healing you tend to swear by it, but the Sudocrem method never gets any dermatology recommendations because it's so oily and clogging.

JanineStHubbins · 04/05/2015 18:01

Oh, ok. I'll just battle on with the acid-toning and moisturising, and hope my Freddy Kruger face doesn't scare anyone tomorrow. Wink

LexLoofah · 04/05/2015 18:03

the LRP Redermic R for Eyes says put it on in the morning but I was planning on putting it on in the evenings with the Redermic R face stuff as I have the Hylamide SubQ face & eye for morning.

Anyone using the LRP Redermics, do you AM or PM?

Fabulassie · 04/05/2015 19:06

Sudocreme is good for broken or irritated skin that is at risk of infection and it protects from further irritation by, say, uric acid. I have found it somewhat helpful on annoying spots, but it's not really something recommended for overall face cream.

Kundry · 04/05/2015 19:54

On annoying spots I really like Vichy Hyaluspot which seems to get them down quicker but hydrates so you get less of the really obvious peeling around them as they dry out.

I'd maybe back off the acid until your face is a bit more settled.

gem think of the acid tone stage as an everyday gentle chemical exfoliant. Don't use scrubs or anything abrasive alongside this routine, the abrasion from a flannel is more than enough.

I have added the hydrating tone after each acid tone because CH says to. I also only acid tone in the morning. Not twice a day.

I'm a scaredy cat.

Twitchcoco · 04/05/2015 20:11

I meant to say since using FAB pads and dropping Liquid Gold I have a cystic type spot under my nose. Ouch. I had managed to eradicate these using LG.

FrugalFashionista · 04/05/2015 20:33

I'm so happy with Nip + Fab pads! My breakout prone skin is flawless and glowing and its texture feels more velvety, no breakouts, previous hyperpigmentation seems less conspicuous and I can go sheerer and sheerer with BB creams. Various gel-like hydrating masks seem to add to the glow by making my skin plumper. I hated the wet hyalurone sheet mask I did yesterday but the sticky gunk left my skin super soft and smooth, so maybe I'll give sheet masks another try. Will not be adding any other steps right now as I'm scared of overdoing it and paranoid about perioral, breakouts, flakiness and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I'll just be a good girl and use lots of sunscreen and hope that I can maintain these results!

If your skin is reacting, reduce the product load and give your face time to adapt. I'm getting results just by adding the glycolic pads and getting better hydration. LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 is a fairly neutral zinc cream that is good for angry skin, but hydrating masks are worth a look too.

Hydrating mask recommendations please!!

FrugalFashionista · 04/05/2015 20:42

Gerti I tend to buffer new products with Effaclar AI in breakout prone areas, it really helps.

I did this sheet mask last night - did not enjoy wearing it as it was wet and gloopy but it was really hydrating. I'm obsessed with Korean products right now, their products seem to suit my skin much better than anything I can find in Europe - the textures tend to be gel like, not oily, and my skin just drinks them up. They have zillions of sheet masks, so probably any would do - ITG says they are all basically the same. I've also loved sleep-in masks, very hydrating but not messy. They are not a million miles off Cerave PM, lots of overlapping ingredients, but seem to have more oomph, and they do not break me out!

Twitchcoco · 04/05/2015 21:13

Gosh FF that's looks a bit Hannibal Lecter!
