Clueless size ten needs outfit for wedding

I have only recently discovered the depths of style and beauty having hidden on the post natal boards since the birth of my daughter two years ago. Dh and I are having a child free overnight trip to a friend's wedding in a Berkshire country hotel. Dress code just says not black tie. I am going to treat myself to a new outfit but am fairly short on money so although it won't be primark it might be zara! I am a size ten/twelve with diminished post baby boobs and a décolleté I dislike. Decent legs and bum. Arms ok. I've just started CH skin routine in a bid to start looking after myself properly again. Does anyone have any suggestions please about where to start with planning my outfit? I live in skinny jeans and tops and haven't browsed clothes shops since before I had my daughter; I'd love some help! I have a whole child free afternoon set aside next week to mooch around and try things on. Thanks S and B masses.

Two frocks and two pairs of shoes - get you!!

I'm not sure that either of them would go with either dress, though.

For 'my' dress, I think a pair of gold sandals would look good. New Look always seems to have a good range of cheap ones. Something like this?

I'm not quite sure what I'd put with the other dress. I'm thinking white block heels but that's not so weddingy.

Twinkle yikes! That's going to keep me up for some time. I rather like the pencil skirt element to this http://m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Print-Scuba-Pinny-Midi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=5015449&cid=12969&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=50&sort=1&clr=Print&totalstyles=336&gridsize=3&un_jtt_v_frompage=0 pinny midi but I'd have to remember my posture all day and that's a big ask!

Pants I actually like those shoes. Are block heels ones that are wide and the same width all the way down? I don't like those. I wondered if wedges might look good with the other dress but that's probably an S and B crime..... Do you think your shoes would look odd with the other dress then?

I may be able to use my free Friday afternoon for something other than shopping at this rate!

Oh, and twinkle, thank you for your compliments. I am trying to get better at just accepting them. So, thank you. The hairdresser, who only sees me a couple or three times a year tells me my hair is in great condition. She thinks its funny when I tell her it's because my hair has never been dyed or straightened.....like I'm some sort of alien woman Grin

Friend has just bought the last dress on the asos site (Chi Chi London) in black and white (though could be very pale pink -saw it in dim light) . It's really pretty 'in the flesh' . Frou frou skirt . She is a petite 12 . She wore it for a ball on Sat .

I WANT you to wear this Asos one with your flowery shoes, which I love!

But you might be happier with this one and either pair of shoes, or this with the green ones?

Postchildren I think the dress on the link you sent starts at size 18 which I'd struggle to fill....but thank you.

Gralick I super love the first dress you linked to. Sexy shape and nice print. But it's a v neck and unless I'm up duffed/ebf'ing with a lovely hormone surge thrown in I can't do v necks (dodgy skin and no cleavage whatsoever....just a bony gap!). Shame. I really like it. But I wouldn't have been able to eat much dinner in it Smile

Well as I said friend is a size twelve so they obviously did/do it in dsmaller sizes .

Pantsalive · 29/04/2015 15:48

Pinny Midi very slinky! Get them all and try them on?

Yes, block heels are those straight chunky ones. I'm not sure I like them either.

The gold ones might work with the red dress. The dress is just so bold, I'm not sure if it also needs slightly louder shoes IYSWIM.

I'd definitely order everything on line and do something much more exciting with your afternoon off!

ecofreckle · 29/04/2015 23:55

Pants I'm going to do just that. I sacked off work this afternoon (was lucky to be able to) and headed to the alleged shopping mecca of Milton Keynes. After our chat on here last night I was excited. I had a yuck time. Too many shops. Too much choice. Too many S and B loathes items. Felt to old for some
shops. Yuck. I'll have my mojo back tomorrow and I'll place some orders. New look didn't appear to have those shoes in.

Anyhow, night night.

Fenn Wright Manson dress out of stock in size 10 and size 8 and size 12 just didn't fit which was a shame because I liked it. I went to see personal shopper yesterday for an hour and half. Thanks for the suggestion Brookville. I think I've decided upon this. Ignoring the pasty legs what do you think? Thanks all.

Looks like mission accomplished to me and you get to wear your lovely shoes. Well done! Do you feel happy in it?
Now just get out there, make the most of being child-free, and have a wonderful time!!
