Joe Brown's - yay or nay?

Just flicking through a little Joe Brown's leaflet. I really like the look of some of their stuff, but wonder about the quality. Has anyone ordered from them? Is the quality ok? And what do you think of JB generally? Some of their things are a bit out-there for me, I know, but I do like some of the dresses.

It's utter shite. I keep getting sucked in to buying their dresses in the sale because they look gorgeous and without fail they fall apart after a couple of wears.

Sad
BunnyLebowski · 22/04/2015 11:58

Nay.

It's all a bit 90's looking and not in a good way.

RainbowFlutterby · 22/04/2015 12:01

I have quite a few things from Joe Brown's and the quality is not good enough for the price.

There's a coat in there I really love though Sad

Randomsquiggle · 22/04/2015 12:02

That's what I feared! They have got some really pretty tea dresses (can't link as am on phone) but I just can't tell from the pictures how cheaply made they are. And yes Bunny, I know what you mean about being a bit 90s!

Agree. It's odd stuff.

I've had a couple of things- a dress, DH a shirt, that were lovely, comfy and I wore them a lot.

But mostly the fit is odd, quality isn't great, and because they charge postage for returns (or used to) it wasn't worth it.

polyhymnia · 22/04/2015 12:54

Agree with others. Oddly dated and generally tacky.

Randomsquiggle · 22/04/2015 13:07

Oh well, I'll keep looking for a couple of nice summer dresses, then. Is anyone a Joe Brown's fan?

Limer · 22/04/2015 13:11

I'm a fan, bought a few dresses, tops and men's shirts over the past year. Returns are free. I'm on their mailing list, they do send far too many emails, but every so often they send a good promo code.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 22/04/2015 13:13

I've got some lovely bits but have had to return an equal number for being hideously unflattering and weird. Definitely wait for the sale as the prices are far more reasonable. Sizing is weird, comes up massive on me but others have said it comes up small. I wear size 14 JB and they are loose whereas I'm a 14-16 everywhere else

HappyGirlNow · 22/04/2015 13:33

Nay! It's hideous.

BL00CowWonders · 22/04/2015 13:37

I tried on a Joe Brown dress in a charity shop yesterday. Perfect on the hanger but just wrong when I put it on. Shame as it was 100% cotton and lined etc.

ArtyBat · 22/04/2015 13:49

I wear several joebrown pieces as I love the brand and friends often comment as to how much they like them .

Some pieces I've had 2-3 years and have washed and worn well.

Twitchcoco · 22/04/2015 13:52

I bought the cliff diver teeshirt fabric dress and love it.

mewkins · 22/04/2015 14:30

I love prinrs and odd designs but this is too much for me. Yes it is very 90s art teacher (ir at least what my art teacher wore in the 90s!!). Yumi do nicer better quality stuff via House of Fraser.

Itscurtainsforyou · 22/04/2015 16:30

I'm a fan. I pick carefully though, there are quite a few odd designs.
I'm a bit of a natural/hippy in style though.

GatoradeMeBitch · 22/04/2015 20:43

Generally I'll see one or two nice things in their catalogues, the plainer stuff not several clashing patterns on one top!

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 22/04/2015 20:50

Really love about 20 % of their stuff and dislike the rest. I agree the fit is very hit and miss. I only buy in the sales.

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 20:53

nay

SouthWestmom · 22/04/2015 20:54

Loved it five years ago now it's Boden for people who think they're boho.

Branleuse · 22/04/2015 21:04

i got an amazing leather jacket from there about 5 years ago but usually i think the quality and fit is not good for the price. Im glad to hear they do free returns now as that didnt used to be the case

ElizabethHoover · 22/04/2015 21:12

Randomsquiggle · 22/04/2015 21:15

Noeuf, 'Boden for people who think they're boho' - oh dear, you seem to have just described me there! Smile I like vintage dresses. I'll post a link to the JB dress that I like in a
minute.

Bloody hell, those trousers have given me a headache Elizabeth Shock Smile

I bought a couple of things years ago (plain tops, honestly!!) and everything fell apart after a few washes.

meglet · 22/04/2015 21:19

anyone wearing those 'festival' trousers to an actual festival would get the hems covered in mud, piss or worse.
