Jersey Blazers - why don't they work for me?

CambridgeBlue · 18/04/2015 16:29

In theory they're the ideal jacket to smarten up my relatively casual look but none of them seem to work on me. They're either too slouchy = frumpy and unflattering, too tailored = look like I'm ready for a board meeting or just gape over my boobs .

Any suggestions for one that could suit me? I'm a 5'2 size 12-14ish hourglass. Or another style of lightweight casual jacket that would be better?

Thanks :)

They are a disaster on me too, so can't help sorry. But jersey bikers work fine on me.

Saurus72 · 18/04/2015 17:19

I just can't do blazers generally. In Jersey they are comfy but frumpy, and in other fabrics I find them incredibly uncomfortable, and my boobs seem to look huge, like they are being framed by the lapels. Or as the Daily Fail would say 'Saurus was showcasing her generous cleavage', ie, walking down the road wearing a blazerHmm

So sorry, now words of wisdom from me.

Runningupthathill82 · 18/04/2015 17:21

I really like my powder blue jersey blazer. It's a Zara one. Though it's a couple of years old and, this year, I'm struggling to find anything I like nearly as much.

Gillybobs · 18/04/2015 19:31

I'm exactly the same as Remus, Jersey Blazers are a disaster, Jersey bikers indispensable.

Lambzig · 18/04/2015 19:40

No, don't work on me either. I look like a sausage bursting out of them somehow. I bought a cotton blazer which works much better, better cut but still looks casual.

MarniRose · 18/04/2015 19:41

Look at Hush

Twitchcoco · 18/04/2015 19:50

I think they look best unbuttoned.

Hope the link works, but I recently bought this & it's very flattering, more fitted than the pics.

Tanaqui · 18/04/2015 20:11

I think it's where your boobs sit- boobs that are high and in front can make blazers look matronly.

Anyone got a link to a jersey biker?

MrsHende · 18/04/2015 21:07

I'd love a link to a jersey biker too!!

PrincessOfChina · 18/04/2015 21:13

I love a jersey blazer. I have several but they're all the open style - no buttons.

I've never seen a jersey biker though and could be interested...any links?

CambridgeBlue · 19/04/2015 07:37

Thanks all, I agree that jersey bikers work when a blazer doesn't, and I wear mine a lot - I got it from Warehouse a few years back and have also seen them in Next. I think the problem with blazers is a boobs thing - most of them only have one button and fasten too low down. Will definitely look out for a buttonless one or think about wearing them open instead.

Surely no one buttons their Blazers up? I thought they were supposed to be worn open and sort of slouchy?

That's how I wear mine and I think they look good (although maybe I am deluded) GrinGrin

Gap had a lovely jersey biker jacket a couple of weeks ago, but by the time I found it, my size had sold out. The had it in grey and blue.

lotsofcheese · 19/04/2015 08:32

Watching with interest; I'm exactly the same size/shape & have the same issues.

Superherosidekick · 19/04/2015 08:45

I have just bought a couple of poly cotton Blazers from new look. Quite thin material but fitted and only £19.99

OuchLegoHurts · 19/04/2015 09:08

I think blazers should be worn open too! I'd never dream of closing mine and I wear them all the time over skinny jeans

ElizabethHoover · 19/04/2015 09:10

Uniqlo one m.uniqlo.com/us/product/women-cardigan-jacket-138933.html

Size up

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 09:28

Gosh no to fastening them - absolutely not.

I have a jersey biker from Warehouse, but it's at least a year old now and tbh hasn't worn terribly well. DD1 has a New Look one, which I steal occasionally. I saw the Gap one online and am going to look out for it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2015 09:29

None of the blazers linked to would work on me - too long and droopy.

chanie44 · 19/04/2015 09:30

I have the uniqlo blazer. It's my first jersey blazer and I really like it, so far.

avocadotoast · 19/04/2015 09:46

I got a grey jersey one from Miss Selfridge years ago that I still love. I've found sizing down is actually better because it gives a better fit across the back and arms (and because I'm not having to fasten it, it doesn't actually need to reach across my chest). I'm 5'1 with quite a narrow back but (ahem) round front so I often size down in jackets and cardigans if I can.

noddyholder · 19/04/2015 10:08

Don't work for me either but I don't mind as I don't really like them! Prefer structure in jackets

VarsityQueen · 19/04/2015 10:40

Principles at Debenhams do quite a good shape, short but not too boxy and with enough nork room. They usually do various colours and patterns. Agree doing blazers up is a bit ambitious, a scarf is good if it's cold
