Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

What is double cleansing? (Assuming it is cleanse once and then again?!) And what is the Superdrug cleanser that everyone raves about??

I have used LE hot cleanser but stopped after a year or so as it seemed to irritate my skin a bit.

EmGee Liz Earle is over hyped rubbish in my humble opinion. My skin is pretty hardy but reacted badly to that stuff.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 13:40

Double cleansing is just as it sounds, cleansing twice. Personally I use an oil cleanser that gets everything off so don't bother with double cleansing.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 16/04/2015 14:21

I also am a CH follower.. and agree that cleansing early evening kind of takes the pressure off. 5 mins at 7pm is a lot less arduous than even 2 at midnight!
Liquid Gold did diddley squat for me when I tried it, but I buy a 30% GA from ebay and that does make a difference. Also recently started on a retinol (again ebay) but can't comment yet. Something CH said which really resonated for us, ahem, more mature ladies, is that past 40, a couple of crushed rosehips ain't going to cut it.
(although my HG product is Neals Yard Frankincense oil)
My favourite serum is n7 lift and luminate, though I am going to try Vichy Aqualia next.
Interestingly, in one of C's blogposts she points out that contrary to what we tend to think, the most important product is NOT moisturiser. (and I'm one who has spent £103 on one once!) but serum. So next week, when my current Elemis runs out (and I've decided it's crap anyway for me) I am just going to get a Olay or something. I do rate the Body Shop Vit E intense but am abroad so hard to get.

Thanks, MrsDeVere, I have just availed myself from Boots.

why I would like to know is whether the likes of P50/pixiglow are more effective than other acid toner and if so why?
If anyone here has experience please let us know!

CremeDeSudo Did your Liquid Gold arrive??

CoconutAmericano · 16/04/2015 18:20

Well I picked up a couple of cleansers today in Boots and a pack of flannels so I'm all set for my hot cloth cleansing tonight Grin. I've also ordered both an AHA and a BHA toner from Bravura and i bought Effaclar duo today and miscellar water also. I am a woman on a mission!
My plan is this:
Am...
Micellar water on a cotton pad all over face.
Aldi serum
Effaclar duo
La roche posay factor 50 spf
Make up

Pm...
Double cleanse with a cream cleanser or Lush Ultrabland
Bha toner one night, aha toner the next and alternate nightly
Aldi serum
Aldi night moisturiser

I have 0.05% tretinoin for when I have a bad breakout (now actually)

Does this routine sound ok? I have oily spot prone skin and am late 30's

CoconutAmericano · 16/04/2015 18:22

Maybe too much toner use? Confused

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 16/04/2015 19:03

I love beauty geekery and anything that reduces wrinkles and acne is good with me but...

Can I just make it clear to posters on here considering buying tretinoin 'over the counter' online, that it is illegal. In the UK tretinoin is a prescription only drug

The side effects and scope for misuse require that it is administered under the guidance and monitoring of a medical professional. Geoff's pharmacy UK or whoever are charlatans.

pinkelephantnightclub · 16/04/2015 19:05

reading and re-reading and slowly getting it- am sure will have more questions but thanks for all the guidance so far. Cleansing steps make sense- and will pick up an acid toner. What category of product do effaclar duo and K fall into?

CoconutAmericano · 16/04/2015 19:10

I thnk effaclar duo is a toner of sorts. It's supposed to clear up blemished skin and gets good reviews generally. I really rate lrp as a brand so hoping this delivers.

pinkelephantnightclub · 16/04/2015 19:15

and any suggestions for cheapest source for Alpha H Liquid Gold?

QVC sells Liquid Gold for £31 which is about as cheap as it gets. Also if you find after a few weeks that you don't get on with it (not everyone does) they will give you a quibble free refund.

It's made by Alpha-H

Truckingalong · 16/04/2015 19:56

I've got a pretty good regime in place and have done a hard core chemical peel in the past, which helped to tone down pigmentation but I dream of even toned smoothed skin. How DO these blessed celebs get skin like this???? I've had Botox but is it lasers, peels, something else? I bloody well want it, whatever it is

bigbuttons · 16/04/2015 20:14

I have liquid gold. Can't say I have noticed any difference at all using it. The real difference came when I started with the peels and CH routine and adding oils, toners and serums.
