Longish tops

Need to fill a wardrobe gap - leading on from a previous thread where several posters felt tunics were a bit twee, I'm looking for something to do the same job, ie at least crotch length to cover muffin belly, not too fitted, preferably jersey or maybe a fine knit.
Patterns are fine ( but not owls/butterflies/slogans) or plain would also be OK.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Good topic Delphinium.
I agree that tunics are starting to look a bit dated. I don't have any suggestions myself, but hopefully people will come along soon and give you some ideas.

I've found longer tops at joe Browns and La redoute - they usually include length in their description (I never buy less than 70-75cm).
Otherwise I wear long vests from matalan under tops.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/04/2015 18:01

Thanks, Curtains, I've already gone down the long vests route, which is fine for very casual days, but not so much for work, when I do my best to make jeans look more formal!
Also , I will never order from La Redoute again, following the shambles last Christmas!
Am hoping someone can link to something really fabulous!

So do I Smile. I'm actually thinking of trying to make my own versions of two summer tops I do like because I can't find anything I like.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/04/2015 22:08

Actually that sounds like a good idea, having no luck finding anything I like in the shops. Have recently discovered All Saints, but it's quite casual and ££, although lovely for laid back times. A m a bit hampered by the fact that I am an 18, wobbly round the middle, and fussy re fabric!

I've found that the Bravissimo tops are quite long, even in the smaller boob size.

Itscurtainsforyou · 13/04/2015 22:10

I'm exactly the same size/shape Smile. Also fabrics, I like something with a bit of stretch, can cope with viscose but otherwise it's natural fibres all the way.

partystress · 13/04/2015 22:11

But why do Bravissimo put horrible unflattering cap sleeves on everything - if they put sleeves at all? I can't be the only one whose enormous norkage is accompanied by ham-like arms....

DelphiniumBlue · 13/04/2015 22:14

Bravissimo: I've always imagined that as they are made for ladies with big boobs, that they are cut for big boobs but small waists. I'll have a look - thanks tb.

Claudia Winkleman on Jack Dee's show was wearing a very nice loose black shirt just now, would like to track that down.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/04/2015 22:36

Just checked Bravissimo - as I suspected, all very tiny round the middle!

I've had recent success with Joules stuff. They have a few plain colours as well as stripes. Not too sure how appropriate for work stuff, though.

I have large norkage, and short waist, so am always on look out for longer tops.

DelphiniumBlue · 14/04/2015 18:54

Joules is nice, but not quite smart enough for work - always makes me think of English seaside holidays!
Any other suggestions out there?

Still hoping someone might have some suggestions.......

THESE

I own these in every colour. Wash well, good length with leggings but not long enough to be frumpy. They skim my waist and don't show my food baby. Winner all round.

squareheadcut · 14/04/2015 21:53

I got some great long work tops from forever 21

spookyskeleton · 14/04/2015 22:00

5446 those tops do look great but not much good for summer Hmm don't suppose they do anything similar with short sleeves??

RecoveringPerfectionist · 14/04/2015 22:02

I bought some from Uniqlo today and was really impressed with quality/colours/fit/length/price.

DelphiniumBlue · 14/04/2015 23:36

For anyone who's watching, just found some very nice tops and dresses at Violeta ( Mango curve). But a bit ££.

VenusRising · 15/04/2015 01:24

I just got some very fine cotton/ modal tops with scooping neck and long sleeves and long body on the sale in MnS. They were 3£ each, so I got three. A purple, a striped one and a plain white.

They are fabulous and have a lovely scoop, but not too revealing- perfect for work.

Itscurtainsforyou · 15/04/2015 09:03

Ooh can you link to them?

2fat4that · 15/04/2015 13:44

Watching with interest - I struggle to find tops that I like to wear with leggings. Most tunics ate too twee for me, a bit ditsy and little girly, they look lovely on others, but just don't suit me.

leedy · 15/04/2015 13:54

Seasalt, Cos, and All Saints all do reasonably long tops.

I have a very long torso so anything less than "longer length" looks unflatteringly cropped on me (at least it's unflattering on my had-two-kids belly).

TeenyfTroon · 17/04/2015 16:34

5446, I'm distraught. The Topshop ribbed tunics looked fantastic. Wish I'd seen them earlier. Sad

Petal02 · 17/04/2015 17:45

Could someone post a link to the Top Shop ribbed tunics?
