Persuade me a fringe is a bad idea....

I'm rubbish with hair, tend to just wash and leave it. I think a fringe would suit my face shape but not sure I can handle to maintenance right now.
I did try a long side swept fringe last year but ended up having to clip it out of the way as got an eye infection within days of having it cut in.
How hard is a fringe to look after? Would you do it if you were me?

It's well over a week now and I love my fringe. Most days I use a hair band to pull it off my face while I do makeup then squirt with a water spray and brush through, and it looks fine. I have also tried dry shampoo on a day it looked a little greasy and that worked brilliantly too.
I don't plan to grow it out any time soon, but do need to work out how to trim it myself!

I've had a fringe one and off for years now. Right now I have little time for faff so have a longer fringe with rounded edges... That way if I miss my 3or 4 weekly fringe trim I can just wear it long and it's fine. As some have said before it makes long hair more a 'style' and I wash mine every other day and get away with 3-4 days in between full head washes with help of dry shampoo. Do it! I'll never go back to not having a fringe now.

Yey glad you liked it!! I wish I had the nerve to trim mine myself. I have a very patient hairdresser who does free in between cut fringe trims! Enjoy!

AmelieinOz, I hateto say it but I have a round face and had a fringe with a short bob... and looked a right twat.

In old photos from a holiday I look like a grinning demented bull lifer.

I'm sure dh got pitying sympathy looks for having me lurking near him.

i like mine but usually a couple of weeks after the cut. i never get why people say botox or a fringe, they must have extra wrinkly foreheads

movinonup · 03/05/2015 21:14

I have a massive moon face and having a big full fringe is my best haircut (maybe I'm deluded though)

I just wanted to update, as it's about 6 months now. I love my fringe. I've
Not found it difficult to look after. 5yo DD helps cut it (I have a long hair clip to clip across in the right place).
I just dry it with an ancient hot air brush thing, by brushing side to side, and look all 'done' :)
Thank you for the encouragement Thanks

I've always had a fringe. A couple of times I've tried to grow it out but I have a huge forehead which just looks silly without a fringe. I don't find it hig maintenance at all.

And it's easy to trim it yourself if it's a full fringe across your forehead - just make sure you have sharp scissors and don't pull it down as you cut. Doing that leaves it shorter than you want.

Ooooo Jenni, I'm so tempted! I want one a bit like Alexa Chung. But can't seem the bite the bullet. This thread is helping

2LittleMonkeysJumpingOnMyHead · 29/10/2015 08:20

Do it!

burnishedsilver · 29/10/2015 08:49

Toni and Guy do free fringe trims for their customers in between regular cuts. Other hairdressers might do the same. It's worth asking.

SeasonalVag · 29/10/2015 09:13

I think it depends on the type of Fringe hair you have.... I have long thick string hair but the Fringe bits are very fine, like baby hair, and keeping it half decent is really hard.... I've grown it out now and look more groomed. Don't do it if your hair is very wavy at the front, it'll be a total trial

Dowser · 29/10/2015 10:16

I've had a fring for 40 years. I've always trimmed mine. I don't have a wrinkly forehead

Not for everyone though. Laughing at hggle going round all day with a big pink Velcro roller in her hair all day.

I'm so visual I even added a colour ;-)

Dowser · 29/10/2015 10:16

And a fringe!

Fabsolutely · 29/10/2015 10:24

Pictures please!

I've had a fringe all my life. I have quite a high forehead (and now I have a few wrinkles) so it definitely suits my face shape. I have hair a bit like the woman from Swing Out Sister - very very blunt short bob. I get it trimmed every 6 weeks & my fringe every 3. So yes it's a pain to maintain but worth it.

Pupsiecola · 29/10/2015 10:28

Very encouraging update OP! I am going for the fringe chop next week :-). I've been thinking about it for 6 months. I always had one, my whole life, up until about 10 years ago. I have a LOT of hair and I feel it just hangs like curtains and drags me down. I'm not sure whether to go for a longer side one to start with or just go for it!
