Sun hats for grown ups.

Does anyone wear one? I tried this on the other day and just wasn't sure about it. I really hate having a hot sweaty face.

That is a bit unusual, I think I would feel a bit self conscious in that...unless I was watching a tennis match maybe...

I got a nice wide brim straw hat from sainsburys last summer. I like straw trilbys, but think I must have a big head they don't sit right on me.

NoRockandRollFun · 09/04/2015 19:23

A wide brim straw hat sounds fantastic but just seems a bit Laura Ashley which is probably the opposite of my wardrobe. Also what do you do when you need to take it off, how do you carry it? I think that's why a tried on the visor thingy, you could just stick it over your arm maybe. I dunno maybe I,m just overthinking it, you just don't see many people over the age of of 8 wearing a sunhat out and about!

I wear this Brixton hat and last year I invested in a Tilley hat, the one with poppers to hold the brim at a jaunty angle.

I love wearing hats and these are really comfy ones, the Tilley is exceptional for wearing at the beach, up a mountain, in the wind!

I wear a panama - it's ace

nochocolateforlentteacake · 09/04/2015 19:51

And where do you keep them in winter? I've seen pana hats that roll up into a tube

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2015 19:53

I'm planning on getting a straw fedora, if I can find one small enough.

squiz81 · 09/04/2015 20:01

nochococolate mine lives on top of the wardrobe.

I had a pram last summer so could put the hat on there when I took it off!

museumum · 09/04/2015 20:03

Fedora or Panama for smart. Or a flower-pot hat for casual.
Those visors are daft if you have a parting you can still get a burnt scalp :(

specialsubject · 09/04/2015 20:04

that visor is pretty much useless for keeping the sun off - top of head and back of neck left exposed.

squiz81 · 09/04/2015 20:13

I've just been googling, there's a lot of foldable straw hats. I didn't know they existed, how exciting.

I actually think you see a lot of people in hats. I always wear one, I have fine hair so get a burnt scalp without one. Plus the sun makes me feel ill. Plus I'm paranoid about the aging effects of the sun on my face Smile

HappyGirlNow · 09/04/2015 20:26

I wear this every day on holiday

I love it! It looks classy, protects my hair from the sun and keeps me looking polished. It's rollable and you can buy card tubes to put it in for travel.. It's well worth the money..

NoRockandRollFun · 09/04/2015 20:40

I like the sound of a fedora, where would I buy one, try one on?

BikeRunSki · 09/04/2015 20:54

I have a stew Panama that came from a beach shop in Cornwall a few years ago. Also lives on the wardrobe in einter. It is getting a bit battered now though, might replace it with the one Happy linked.

IWannaHoldYourHand · 09/04/2015 21:15

I wear a massive, floppy, navy paper hat from primary, or a panama.

lavendersun · 10/04/2015 10:04

I wear hats a lot, have quite a selection - I like to look pale and interesting. Thanks for the link Pandoras. I am going to buy the Thasos in blue to add to my collection.

SevTSnape · 10/04/2015 11:33

I haves small collection of woolly hats for the winter. No summer hats but strongly considering investing in a couple. Need to find one i like though, that won't make me look like I'm trying to 14

I use Village hats here they are online but have a good returns policy.

ppeatfruit · 10/04/2015 14:51

Yes I wear sun hats. Imo people without hats at midday if it's warm are daft, I also think it's weird to force your dcs to wear hats if you aren't going to.

It flattens your hair but so what? I live 50% in Fr. and it's unusual to see anyone esp. women in summer hats. (however hot or sunny it is).

FrugalFashionista · 10/04/2015 14:52

I just wore my Wallaroo Fedora taking my afternoon espresso in a street cafe. Fantastic sun protection and felt so summery with with ripped pale jeans and a loose gray sweatshirt and broderie espadrilles.

TheEmpressofBlandings · 10/04/2015 15:07

I wear a big floppy straw hat, can't stand sun on my face. Think I got it from sainsburys a few years ago. It's very soft so just rolls up into a bag if I'm not wearing it.
Bit like this one but plain straw.

hopelesslydevotedtoGu · 10/04/2015 15:22

I'm looking at the ethical rollable Panamas- they also do a 'ladies' hat'- do you all have the standard version?

Thelovecats · 10/04/2015 16:34

Frugalfashionista which is your hat? Just wondering about the wallaroo sizing. My head is big!

OnlyLovers · 10/04/2015 16:39

Marking place with interest. I need a hat as I burn quite easily and don't like using sunscreen, but I struggle not to look twattish in one.

WeirdCatLady · 10/04/2015 16:42

Debenhamstend to have some nice hats.

I have a big floppy white straw hat that I adore :)

WeirdCatLady · 10/04/2015 16:43

Debenhams (space) tend to have some nice hats.
