Does anyone wear one? I tried this on the other day and just wasn't sure about it. I really hate having a hot sweaty face.

My head is massive so hard to find hats to fit. I have a few though - one similar to the visor you linked but a full hat and a cowboy-esque straw hat. The edges are wire so you can shape it... Good for festivals and days out with the kids I think.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/04/2015 16:49

I've got one a bit like this that I bought in either Majorca or Lanzarote. It lives on top of my wardrobe and travels really well, tbh.

I love that Boohoo one Empress

FrugalFashionista · 10/04/2015 17:34

Lovecat I bought the Wallaroo Josie (emergency purchase while travelling, the actual color is creamy straw shot with black). It's adjustable size with a string that can be tied inside, unadjusted it's much too large for me so I would imagine it would work well for a larger head size. Relatively wide-brimmed but I wear it for sun protection. Look at their other models too, lots of options. I have a panama that I like too but this is much better because it can be squashed in the suitcase and it requires virtually no space at all,

FrugalFashionista · 10/04/2015 17:37

Checked the site they say up to 58cm = 23"!

squoosh · 10/04/2015 18:04

I like the rollable panamas you linked to HappyGirlNow.

Sgtmajormummy · 10/04/2015 18:17

A few years ago I saw a (Japanese, if it makes any difference) tourist wearing a cotton "gardening" hat with a zip-out brim to extend it into a sun hat. I thought it was a brilliant idea, especially for travelling. If you go on a windy boat trip, you can't be doing with wide brims and I'm a sucker for reversible/dual purpose/packable kit!
Has anybody seen one for sale?

MuttonCadet · 10/04/2015 18:21

I wear either a panama or a black wide brim floppy straw hat.

RandomFriend · 10/04/2015 18:45

Lots of great suggestions - I especially like the one linked by HappyGirl

MoJangled · 10/04/2015 19:33

another vote for cowboyesque straw hats here. plus I have a Tilley-style blue canvass hat for scruffier or outdoorsy occasions, and a selection of baseball caps for gardening / convertible car as they're impossible to blow off once I've stuffed my hair through the gap at the back.

cookoos · 10/04/2015 19:50

next and accessorize have a variety of different sun hats for reasonable prices

Thelovecats · 10/04/2015 19:55

Thanks frugal I think my head is 58cm, so it should be fine. I need it for sun protection so wide brim is good.
I have a floppy straw number for the garden, but I don't wear it out- too bohemian for me. I like the fedora style better.

thenightsky · 10/04/2015 20:46

About 10 years ago I got a straw floppy brimmed one from TKMaxx. it was unusual in that it had a wide, soft elastic edge stitched into the brim so it stayed put even in the huge winds you get on boats out on the Red Sea!

Sadly the elastic has now died (combination of sweat, heat and age). I've never found another as good.

I'm thinking I must just try to replace the elastic section myself somehow.

The label inside says 'Made of Me' and there is a little pink heart logo.

cerealqueen · 10/04/2015 21:09

I have one like this, feels 70s which I like

brusselsproutwarning · 10/04/2015 21:44

Want a summer hat too! I like bucket hats but afraid I might look like a kid in one.
Love straw hats and come to think of it big floppy hats too! Don't know why I don't own any. I think I'm too self conscious to wear a big hat, silly really as I always admire them when I see someone wearing one.

HappyGirlNow · 10/04/2015 22:48

Thanks all who've said they like my Tumi panama... I've tried loads in various shops and none come close in terms of look or fit.. I have a small - medium head, I take a 57cm

TyrannosaurusBex · 10/04/2015 23:40

I've bought a rather jaunty Max Mara navy and white brimmed hat this year, I had the most ridiculous suntan last year with massive panda eyes and it took months and months to fade - I vowed never again.

SanityClause · 10/04/2015 23:47

I have one like this.

I know that's a huge amount of money, but I have worn it on holiday for years, and it's really convenient, because you can roll it and stuff it in your beach bag. Also, it looks quite elegant, and shades your neck and shoulders as well as your face.

Gibble1 · 11/04/2015 00:58

I have a giant floppy wide brimmed one for wearing nice places and a scruffy baseball cap for cub activities. I hate the sun in my eyes, I get a hot head and sunburn so I have started to be far more careful about wearing hats.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 11/04/2015 10:57

I need to get up the confidence to wear a hat
I love them on other people and I know I look ok with a wider brim
I just feel like a knob if I wear them for some reason.

I want to look like Renee Russo in a big floppy hat (but wearing a top)

ThomasLynn · 11/04/2015 12:17

That's my hat. It squashes flat, takes a battering and is shower-proof.

Sometimes I tie a ribbon around it to go with my dress or something.

CheshireCait · 11/04/2015 12:22

I wear a sunhat that I had to order specially from Australia because they were the only company who had one big enough to fit my ENORMOUS head.

Oh, the shame.

But how I love that hat!
