Is SuperDrug hot cloth cleanser good for sensitive combination skin?

I need a good cleanser for not much money (so broke at the moment!) and have read lots of great things about this on here. Also, can anyone recommend a toner (oh and explain what toner does!) and while we are at it... A reasonably priced moisturiser too. One that feeds the skin not just goes on either greasy or disappears to nowhere!! Grin

I'd say it was definitely good for combination skin, but I can't comment on sensitive skin as mine isn't.

Two types of toner that are actually good for the skin - exfoliating toners (have acid in them) and hydrating toners (alcohol free, usually with moisturising ingredients like aloe and humectants like glycerin or hylauronic acid). I use both, one after the other. Sensitive/combination skin would be best with a lactic acid toner, I would say, as it is the most gentle. The Body Shop do some nice toners/spritzes. This step helps hydrate.

I'll hold off on recommending a moisturiser as someone whose found a good one for sensitive skin will be better placed!

Thanks naboot Smile I knew toner was confusing me! Lol. I like the idea of the hydrating one, but is that the one you think may be less gentle? I used to use a dermologica spray toner but only used occasionally as didn't really know why I was using it! Bit pricey for me at the mo so may try a body shop one then. Thanks Smile

Oh, sorry. What I typed was a bit confusing. The Body Shop ones are for the hydrating tone and are acid free but have nice stuff like glycerin. If you wanted to try an acid one use that before a hydrating one, and I'd look for one with lactic acid as this is the most gentle acid, and I'd suggest trying to find an alcohol free one (some of the acid ones have some alcohol) as you have sensitive skin.

The Boots Botanics toner is nice (it's an acid toner) and good value.

If you get hold of one of the periodic Boots £5 vouchers, No. 7 micellar water is good and takes everything off gently.

Finance Can you link to the one you mean? I've tried the brightening one and that one had alcohol in it and a small amount of fruit acid, but not enough to really do anything. I really like the balm cleanser and facial oil though, so if they've got a decent toner as well I'm all over it!

yes, its fine for sensitive, combination skin. I prefer the Naturally Radiant here rather than the Vitamin E one, as it smells nicer and is a dupe for Liz Earle cleanse and polish.

I dont use the muslin cloths now though, I use face flannels. £3 for ten from Ikea. More exfoliating and steam the face better as they hold in the heat more.

Thanks so much for all your recommendations. Sorry for delay in replying, I wasn't able to get back on before now. I don't seem able to look at SuperDrug website on my phone so couldn't look at the Radiance cleanser. I didn't realise there were different types! But I do think radiance sounds good as my skin is defo duller these days!

I have sensitive combination skin, goes red as soon as you touch it and the only thing I seem to get on with is the superdrug hot cloth cleanser - I use the naturally radiant one.

For toner I use simple's blackhead cleanser/ toner in one, makes my skin feel really refreshed. For moisturiser I found a clinique range, cant remember the name of it but its for people with skin which goes red quickly, just a normal day moisturiser but i found it helped calm down my skin tone from rosy to normal looking.

I've never used the superdrug cleanser but I have heard good things and it's half price at the moment so even better time to try it :-) toners are pretty pointless, their purpose in years gone by was to remove last traces of remover or makeup but cleansers are so good these days you don't really need one. As for moisturiser I really like the Simple range.

Mums, that's great to hear. I've always found Clinique to be too strong for my skin, although not tried the one you're suggesting!

Ali, I have a dimple eye make up remover which I find stings my eyes! And it feels harsh it gentle. I have used a simple moisturiser in the past and found it didn't really feed my skin, enough, but perhaps they have more of a range now. X

I've got dull sensitive dry skin and found the radiance hcc a bit bleurgh, neither here nor there really.

Have been using body shops camomile oil cleanser and using a hot flannel to wipe it off and my skin feels lovely.

I then use nip and fab glycolic acid pads before a serum, oil and moisturiser. (My skin drinks all these up!)

Well I decided to try the radiance hot cloth cleanser. Will use tonight! Do you wash the muslin often? I also bought the vitamin e eye make up remover which seems nice and gentle. I also got the radiance day cream as I couldn't resist the price!!! Fingers crossed I like them! Thanks for all your help Grin

Fcuk, interesting to hear about the body shop oil cleanser. I used a shu Emera one before and really liked it a lot (after initially feeling it was too oily at first. Is the body shop one pricey?

I can't remember how much it was, no too expsensive as I bought a couple of other things and it came to about £20.

Also I know they have loads of offers online so will probably stock up soon

Hmm, I can usually use anything on my face but Superdrug's Vit E brought me out in some very big red blotches. Really surprised as normally I have no problems..........

Myotherdog, usually my face is so sensitive I come up red rashy and sore with lots of things. I didn't buy the vitamin e cleanser tho, I got the radiance one. I just used the vit e eye make up remover and that didn't irritate thankfully.

Fcuk, I will defo try the body shop oil if I don't get on with this long term. Smile

I have just started using the superdrug naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser and I have sensitive combination skin, it is lovely and my face looks fab after using it, left it at home while away at easter and so missed it!

I do want to try the body shop chamomile oil cleanser!

Smoosh, yay! A friend of mine raves over the body shop one, but then I kept seeing comments on here about this one being just as good, so I thought I'd try this first!! I've used the radiance this evening and also the day cream (didn't buy night cream) so far it feels great and my skin is glistening a bit!! Guess that's the radiance! Lol! Fingers crossed in a weeks time I feel the same! I just LOVE the price!!! Smile

It wasn't good for my sensitive skin. I used it for a week and initially thought it was great but then it triggered my rosacea. I'm still battling the flare up a month later.

I have very dry and sensitive skin and I had no problems at first with the Superdrug hot cloth cleanser but after a while I did notice that my skin felt a bit tighter and was redder than usual, so I switched.

Moisturiser wise, I have tried low and high end brands and the one I like the most is Aveeno.

Hmmm, thanks guys. I have been thinking today that my face looked a bit red in places. It hasn't stung at all though which is what usually happened. I do think my face looks a bit dehydrated today though, so perhaps the moisturiser I got isn't that great for me either. Will use for a week and see I guess. I've also got a couple of big spots along my jawline, but they may be the time of the month! Blush

Funnily enough I nearly bought Aveeno. Which one do you use on your face? Does it feel like it nourishes your skin? I'm just over 40 and my skins needs hydrating, but without too much grease!!

Cetaphil cleanser and day lotion is nice stuff, don't need much lotion though as it's quite hydrating even though it's not thick. They are about £8 each but last for ages. Designed for use after surgical procedures so they are really gentle x

The cheapest and my favourite method of hot cloth cleansing is the Oil Cleansing Method, you only need castor oil and olive/jojoba - depending on your skin, that's it!
