I reckon I could do with a face highlighter/illuminator. I'm 47 and don't wear any foundation, just do I make up really. I was thinking my face could do with a little bit of lifting and brightening though.
Do you have a favourite highlighter? Please can you give me some ideas. I have googled, but feel a tad overwhelmed.
Thanks Smile

If you want to simply highlight your cheeks and browbone I like Benefit High Beam.

MyMeMy · 08/04/2015 19:14

I'm 49, and the best thing I have ever used is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder - the effect is amazing, incomparable to anything else and really does last on the skin.

I have the palette of three colours, and the single Diffused Light - the middle colour in the palette is the best highlighter ever, it is expensive but can't recommend it highly enough Smile

I love Bobbi brown shimmer brick - but I think you need to be careful with highlighters as I think they can age you if applied too heavily or incorrectly. That said most MU counters will do demos and I like bb, Laura mercier, nars and Armani (sometimes) for that (as often they seem to aim for a more natural less made up look IMHO)

Benefit Watts Up. Apply along the top of your cheekbones, with a built in smudger. Makes me glory, in a good way.

Mac Strobe Cream for your full face is good - I wear it under a little bit of CD Nude foundation.

Clinique Uplighter I use sometimes for my cheeks/cheek bones (it lasts me forever) and Benefit Girl Meets Pearl is lovely too.

I tried CD Diorskin Nude BB Cream a while ago and I like it for a healthy glow. I own one small bag of makeup & just realised most of it is highlighter...

MoustacheofRonSwanson · 08/04/2015 22:54

RMS living luminzer is lovely

I use either the no7 peach cream highlighter or Dior glow maximiser. Both have a gold hue rather than silver so you may need to decide which you would prefer. Gold is better on me and am brown haired and pasty white. Both are cream highlighters which I like as they seem to disappear into the skin and remain all day. Revlon does a solar one also also used to use. Highlighter really makes a big difference to me and I always wear it to work with just a small touch of blush.

Thank you so much everyone. I shall check them all out. I am hoping to go into town in couple of days so can have a look at the make up counters too Smile

I second, no7 peach highlighter. Always get complimented on how well I look when I've got it on.. Must remember to stock up!

southeastastra · 10/04/2015 08:02

i like nars copacobana, you just need a little but it makes so much difference

Shonajay · 10/04/2015 08:44

Before you go spending vast amounts try MUA Undress your face. I got mine from a chemist in ebay, dirt cheap, went for the pinky toned one as I'm fair. Wait for everything to set then buff in above my cheekbones, wee bit on nose, Cupid's bow before lipstick, and it's my new favourite. I'd say it's just as good as Benefit, if not better as you can be more accurate.

RuggerHug · 10/04/2015 08:44

I second the Mac strobe cream one. And they do travel sizes for a tenner (in euro anyway )so you can get a little one to try. Smile

Shonajay · 10/04/2015 08:47

Sorry it's undress your skin. Six quid delivered. I sometimes use with no foundation too and it looks good. Just don't go too near the crinkly eye area if you are like me.

Shonajay · 10/04/2015 08:49

I've got MAC strobe cream I thought it was for all over use under foundation?

bigbuttons · 10/04/2015 10:24

The MUA sounds good! I shall have a look on eBay.
I have heard that the Mac strobe is good, people seem to use it both as a highlighter and under foundation.

MyMeMy you are giving me Hourglass fever and I'm not supposed to buy any new cosmetics

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 17:50

Touch Eclat everything

MsVanRein · 10/04/2015 18:50

I second Watts Up - definitely one of the best I've tried and always get compliments about my skin when I wear it.

MyMeMy · 10/04/2015 19:38

FrugalFashionista, you may have to change your name, but you won't regret it Grin

I've tried loads of illuminating products and never really liked any of them until I hit on Hourglass (Come to think of it, I've never found a powder that I liked either). I find the Dim Light in the palette a little too red for all over, but love it just on my cheeks, and the bronzing shade is lovely too. Incandescent Light is something else though, every time I use it I marvel at how lovely it is... I'm not helping am I???

I am seriously addicted to the stuff!

Sunbeam18 · 10/04/2015 20:26

I second the Hourglass recommendation! I have the three-part palette too and adore it. Expensive but great ! Also like Dior Glow and Mac Strobe

bigbuttons · 11/04/2015 08:15

The hour glass looks gorgeous, but sadly it is way over my price limit. I'm going into town today so will make a list of all the recommendations here and see how many I can try out!
