sandals made for travelling and walking!

I am touring Europe in the summer. Need a good pair of flattish sandals that will stand up to the heat of summer and walking but also look good with shorts. I am not a neat shoe type person. Like funky chunky ones. Any ideas??? Please! Thanks.

I like my saltwater ones. I happily walked all over New York wearing them last summer and I like how they look too Smile

lolalotta · 07/04/2015 12:16

Saltwater are look lovely, would love to own a pair!

lolalotta · 07/04/2015 12:25

Miranda, do the saltwater sandals take long to break in? I have wide feet so find shoe shopping hard!

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 12:27

I am the same lola. I have a wide foot. Just worried they might hurt. The saltwater sandals would be perfect because they can be used on the beach :) Was a bit worried they were uncomfy. What colours are good to get? I love the red, silver, gold, lime...its so difficult!!!

I like my merrell they've lasted very well and teva are good too but the styles can be a bit iffy.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 12:39

Yes i have looked at the merrell ones too. Quite like the 'sporty' sandal too. Will have a google. Are they ok in a bit of water [ not going to go swimming in them but just a light wetting!!]?

Anything Here?

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 13:12

Yes, quite like the merrell ones :)

I'm quite boring Wink so would go for tan!

lolalotta · 07/04/2015 13:32

Those soles on the DMs do look HEAVY! Confused

storytopper · 07/04/2015 13:38

Don't know if these are too sporty looking for you rather than city smart, but I can really recommend Clarks "wave walk" shoes and sandals. I have had several pairs and I can walk for miles and miles in them - so comfortable.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 13:43

Yes, i have a few pairs of DM's sandals and think they would be tiring to walk lots in. I like the Jack wolfskin seven seas sandals. Quite a good price too.

Camper usually have good ones, and they're v comfortable.

I like the look of the 'Micro' ones on here. www.camper.com/en_GB/women/shoes

I got cheapy karrimor ones (I think) for a rainy trip to Cornwall last summer. They do them in blue/pink-red/grey. I am a vain cow and was terrified of the frump factor, but they looked alright and were v v v comfy.

Teva are very comfy and the leather versions look nice. Merrel whisper link looks good too. Next have a few that look comfy, the crossover sandal (can't do links) comes in a range of colours and looks good...

BirdyArms · 07/04/2015 14:06

I love my saltwaters and they are super comfy to wear all day but not the best for walking for me because they are dead flat and not much cushioning. I prefer birkenstocks to walk any distance.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 14:13

The saltwater ones do look a bit flat for walking. Birkenstocks are good but are they the flip flop ones with no backs? Dont your feet get tired trying to keep them on? or do you get ones with a back fastening? off to google!!!

fredabear · 07/04/2015 14:18

I can walk for miles in my birkies (gizeh)

Cecyhall · 07/04/2015 14:23

This is a well timed thread, I've just favourited some Teva sandals on ASOS but couldn't decide if they were ugly yet practical or actually ok!

I might order them now. Maybe.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 07/04/2015 14:24

If lots of walking the Birkenstock gizeh is fine. It's a toe post style and stays in your foot nicely. Whereas the Madrid style with the single strap you find hurts more as your toes crunch up to grip onto them.

I've walked for miles in my gizeh. And fitflop Bon sandals with a back strap/ankle strap. Very comfortable.

pootlebug · 07/04/2015 14:27

I love these - really comfy, totally fine to get wet etc. Not particularly stylish but I'd rather be comfy for lots of walking:

stripytees · 07/04/2015 14:35

I love the look of those Yokono Mallorca, how does the sizing come up?
