I am touring Europe in the summer. Need a good pair of flattish sandals that will stand up to the heat of summer and walking but also look good with shorts. I am not a neat shoe type person. Like funky chunky ones. Any ideas??? Please! Thanks.

I actually like these and am thinking of ordering them:

Yes Birkenstocks with toe post. They are very comfy. Do take a week or two to break in though as not flat under foot so your feet need to mould to the base

I've got wide feet and Campers just don't work for me at all. I have quite a few pairs bought in the factory shop in Mallorca and they just give me blisters. I'm yearning for a pair of Saltwater at the moment.

I got some Teva Kayenta last year and they are great. I think they look good with a skirt, trousers or shorts. I walked all around Paris in them and then went canoeing (including paddling in the water) in them. Still as good as new and ready for another summer.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 14:40

I like the asos tiva ones but i would worry the back strap would come down at the back.

Ooh I was just about to post a recommendation for the FitFlop Bon sandals but HelpGetMeOutOfHere got there first. They are a bit pricey but SO comfortable. I also walk a fair bit in my Birkenstock Arizonas.

Greengardenpixie · 07/04/2015 14:54

Ooooh i absolutely love those fiflops bon! They are gorgeous. Are they comfy to walk in?

Size down with the Yokonos, stripy- I'm a 7.5-8 and the 7 fits me perfectly.

Camper sandals or Birkenstock Gizeh. Have walked miles in both.

merlotbythefire · 07/04/2015 15:12

I have a pair of these Teva sandles in a fab red/turquoise. Lightweight, but sturdy enough to see me very comfortably through Switzerland followed by Rome last summer

FoxyVeganJane · 07/04/2015 19:58

Yes Merrells are great in water but if I have them in salt water I make sure to rinse them as soon as I can.

I think mine are 3 years old and are only now starting to wear mind just the fabric, the soles are still great.

I loved my tevas too, I have some gorgeous leather flip flops I had them over 10 years. Only had to throw them as the side bar wore rough and rubbed.

geordiepidge · 07/04/2015 21:53

I have a pair of Merrill Jacardia and they're fabulous. Not too ugly compared to other sporty sandals and blissfully comfortable. I live in them on holidays.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 07/04/2015 22:12

Fitflop bins are very comfortable. The strap stops them slipping and hurting your foot. I wore them for a full day shopping in New York and not a blister in sight.

Greengardenpixie · 08/04/2015 10:04

Still undecided. Love the fitflops but they dont do the style bon anymore!
Any more ideas to confuse me ha ha....???

I second the Clarks ones recommended. Lived in these all summer last year, super comfortable.

There are a few Fitflop Bons on Amazon and Ebay, but they seem to have limited stock.

Shame as they don't do many styles with adjustable straps, I find their standard flip flop shape is too tight on the top of the foot.

LePetitPont · 08/04/2015 15:22

I third the Clarks Hannah roye sandals. I bought a pair last summer and wore them all summer including a city break and traipsing round castles in france. Plus I was in the latter stages of pregnancy - so definitely a comfortable sandal!

florascotia · 08/04/2015 18:29

It all depends on whether you will be on smooth city streets or historic cobbles or rough open country. If the latter two, I really would recommend something like the Teva or Merrel with a round-the-back strap and a proper grippy sole. Serious twisted-ankle-danger otherwise...

I live where the ground is uneven and there are many random roots - to say nothing of ticks that get between your toes. My ideal country sandals for local conditions would be rather like mens' 'Jesus boots' for the female foot and ankle. (Why? Would you want to stub exposed toes on sharp roots etc?)
But alas very few companies make them.

Greengardenpixie · 08/04/2015 19:14

Thanks for the link to the fitflops but sadly i am a 6. I did find a pair but they were £90!
