How many days wear from jeans?

How many days wear do you get from your jeans normally?

I see some mums at the school gates who look like they wear a fresh pair of jeans every day, without any bagginess at the knees etc. But that is an awful lot of washing and ironing. Just wondering what other people do?

When DD was little I never stopped her from mucky play, but I still managed to not get covered in muck. How do some of you manage to get so dirty?

None of my jeans go baggy either. I have a cheap pair from Sainsburys and a pair of Levi demi curve, but they both keep their shape.

pinkfrocks · 07/04/2015 18:40

They get washed when they have a dirty mark on them- which is not that often- or if I've been travelling on public transport when they have been in contact with the seats.

I don't understand anyone who washes clothes ( except undies) after 1 wear. Unless you do a dirty manual labour type job.

I rarely wear jeans for a whole day anyway, so they can be worn for ages before they are dirty especially if all I've done is sit in my car, drive to the shops, and potter about at home. Don't wear them for work.

If you use panty liners the crotch doesn't get smelly.

Some of my jeans only have 2% elastane so they are very creased and stiff after washing- that's why I iron them or they feel like cardboard on my legs.

Sallystyle · 07/04/2015 19:05

A week or more.

I wash them when they are dirty or smelly.

ElizabethHoover · 07/04/2015 19:19

My dd doesn't get me mucky as she is 18! I get mucky from dog, wiping my fingers on my jeans when cooking, spilling coffee and being generally a bit messy. I wonder how you can keep a pair of jeans clean for a week!

pinkfrocks · 07/04/2015 20:15

Quite simple. Wear an apron when cooking and use kitchen roll for hand wiping. No pets. Don't spill coffee or food.

How do you think men get on with their suits? DH doesn't send his wool suit trousers to the dry cleaners after one day's wear. Confused

And I don't agree that light coloured clothes would show the dirt.

Bunbaker · 07/04/2015 20:28

"or if I've been travelling on public transport when they have been in contact with the seats."

Why do you have a problem with public transport? I have never come across this.

"I get mucky from dog, wiping my fingers on my jeans when cooking, spilling coffee and being generally a bit messy. I wonder how you can keep a pair of jeans clean for a week!"

I don't have a dog, I don't wipe my hands on my clothes when cooking. I am not in the habit of spilling coffee and I am not messy. I can see why a dog might make your jeans dirty, but the other causes are completely avoidable. I just manage to stay clean as I don't seem to be a dirt magnet.

pinkfrocks · 07/04/2015 20:39

Bun- if you have been travelling across one of the biggest cities on the planet and sitting on seats used by all and sundry- snotty nosed kids, people with dirty hands and clothes, people with tummy bugs etc who may not have good personal hygiene, then it's a good idea to wash the clothes that have been in contact with seats, as far as possible.

Bunbaker · 07/04/2015 21:01

pinkfrocks that sounds a little obsessive. I don't suppose the public transport in Sheffield is any cleaner than London transport

What do you do in winter? Do you wash your coat after every wear?

dexter73 · 07/04/2015 21:09

pinkfrocks - you sound like the sort of person that puts lace doilies on plates! I don't spill food or coffee on purpose and I don't particularly want to get rid of my dog! Washing my jeans every couple of days really is no big deal.

dexter73 · 07/04/2015 21:22

I think I am just a bit messy. Some people are dirt magnets and some are clean machines. Washing clothes is a small price to pay for feeling comfortable with myself. I don't think I will ever be the sort of person who remembers to wear an apron when I am cooking or who wipes their fingers on a cloth rather than down the back of my jeans!

pinkfrocks · 08/04/2015 12:03

I blame your mother Dexter for never telling you not to wipe your hands on your clothes.
Pop some aprons on your Xmas list, throw some kitchen roll in your trolley but doillies are optional Grin

dexter73 · 08/04/2015 12:08

I'm too old to change now! Also my dad always did the housework and cooking so he should get the blame for my lack of cleanliness Grin. Surely if I wear an apron I'll just have to wash that instead of the jeans?!!

almondcakes · 08/04/2015 12:21

I have dogs, am on public transport every day, and and walk for at least an hour and a half a day (1 hour to and from public transport plus half hour dog walk) and wear my jeans to work. DS wears his to school. We are both in jeans 16 hours a day.

Hence washing after two days.

Also, now flares are back (not boot cut), the flares have a line down the front (see the M and S true seventies flares). If you don't iron them back into shape it is just a baggy mess around your ankle.

VeronicaCaCa · 08/04/2015 12:25

Clean pair every day.

pinkfrocks · 08/04/2015 12:36

But the point Dexter is that you can wear a slightly soiled apron more than once in the privacy of your kitchen but you can't wear mucky jeans out in public.

I showed DH this thread and he was amazed at how women wear jeans once then wash.

So am I. Mine haven't been washed for weeks because they are worn for around 2-3 hours, are perfectly clean because I've only been in my own car wearing a coat, in the shops, then back home.

dexter73 · 08/04/2015 12:49

I wouldn't want to wear a dirty apron though even if no-one could see me. I am amused at you showing your dh this thread and his amazement Grin!!

almondcakes · 08/04/2015 14:17

I find it somewhat amusing that someone is routinely changing outfits after a couple of hours, putting a pinny on in the house and so on. I just get up, get dressed and do not think about clothes again until I take them all off to get into bed.

Of course you don't need to wash the jeans if you only wear an outfit for two hours.

polyhymnia · 08/04/2015 14:49

The washing clothes if you've been on public transport thing fascinates me. I don't know how I'd have managed when I used to commute to work every day for years. Would I have had to get my coat cleaned every day? Would have needed a lot of coats ...

This is reminding me of the thread in which it emerged that lots of women cover the seat of any public loo they use with paper every time. Either both behaviours are a bit disproportionate, or I've been lucky as my immune system has been incredibly strong so far and protected me from the ubiquitous risks from ? Infection.

Thisishowyoudisappear · 08/04/2015 15:29

Daily jeans-washers, how many pairs do you have? Do you find that they wear out fairly quickly?

Drywhiteplease · 08/04/2015 15:30

Bloody hell if I travelled on public transport in Sheffield id wear protective clothing Wink

herbaceous · 08/04/2015 16:05

I don't get why getting germs on your jeans from The Great Unwashed on public transport means that you have to wash them. You're not going to lick them, or eat your dinner from them. Germs will not travel into your bloodstream through the skin of your legs. All our skin is constantly covered in germs, and we seem to survive OK.

As with all my other clothes, jeans get washed when actually dirty, actually smelly or irredeemably baggy. Anything else just makes unnecessary work, wears them out and is selfish and bad for the environment.

So says I.

BrandyAlexander · 08/04/2015 16:17

Grin Dry.

I think I have about 10/15 pairs. i only wear jeans maximum 3 days a weekm or . I appreciate it's bad for the environment but i would rather wear a new clean pair than have a dirty pair.

ArcangelaTarabotti · 08/04/2015 16:20

Same here. And iron????? Shock never.
