Long evening dresses

I've been invited to my first proper ball in a very posh London hotel & the dress code is long dresses & black tie. Any ideas where to get something amazing on a shoestring budget. I'm a 10/12 pear with decent arms & waist but small boobs and wider hips so ideally black, sleeveless, fitted but not skin-tight with a high neckline. Anyone?

Debenhams is good for this sort of thing.

I found this navy long dress or this gorgeous, flattering red one

I know you said black, but do try other colours too!

BackforGood · 05/04/2015 00:03

I love both of those - especially the price of the red one.
I was going to say that a charity shop near me has a special 'upstairs room' for this sort of thing - it has bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses (and Mother of the bride outfits but that's not relevant here) and prom dresses etc - all of which of course have only been worn once and then donated to support the charity - you can get some real bargains.
There are also shops where people sell on their designer outfits for a fraction of the price.
But
Overtired's link shows a great price.

I bought this for a black tie do and it's lovely- looks much more expensive than it was. There are lots of "ever pretty" dresses on amazon at amazingly good prices.

mrsruffallo · 05/04/2015 00:08

This kind of thing?

mrsruffallo · 05/04/2015 00:16

Victria Beckham has a lovely one here [[http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/505253/Victoria_Beckham/ruffled-silk-and-wool-blend]]

Mrsr lovely but this or this are more what I had in mind Grin. I love the colour of this but not with my hips Wink.

They are gorgeous Pheobe. I bet we can find you a more affordable one. I am looking now. What is your budget?

PhoebeMcPeePee · 05/04/2015 00:21

I will also check out Debenhams etc nas there are some bargains on there & I'd previously dismissed department stores as far too pricey.

mrsruffallo · 05/04/2015 00:28

How about this for a cheaper version?

PhoebeMcPeePee · 05/04/2015 00:56

On that note, Goodnight. Whatever you wear, make sure you feel comfortable so that you can have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself immensely.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 05/04/2015 02:18

Or have you thought about hiring a dress? Gorgeous, gorgeous one here to hire for £76.

RubyReins · 05/04/2015 08:52

I got a beautiful evening dress for a song in the Biba concession at House of Fraser. I had never considered it before but we were looking for elegant bridesmaid dresses and the selection was terrific. I often need dresses for black tie events and this will be ideal for that after it has served its bridesmaid duties. Dress cost £74.

goddiva.co.uk/sweetheart-neckline-cap-sleeve-empire-line-evening-maxi-dress-wine.html I got this for an Oxford black tie do - fantastic quality and even nicer in real life. Some tat on there but also some really classy stuff.
