and if so - which brand (and what's your skin like)?

I really don't know. But I bit the bullet last week and bought the N.V.Perricone range (in NY so not as stupidly expensive as here but still about $180 for cleanser, night cream and day cream) so I'll tell you in a couple of weeks whether its worth it or not...

expatinscotland · 31/10/2006 12:20

No

scatterbrain · 31/10/2006 12:21

Not sure if you would count Decleor as expensive - but I am a devotee of 13 years ! I have very sensitive/reactive skin and it is wonderful for me.

themoon666 · 31/10/2006 12:23

I once bought a pot of very expensive Lancome stuff - about £65 - and it made not a jot of difference to my skin.

poppynic · 31/10/2006 12:25

I have very sore, sensitive skin. Have used lots of different cheap creams during my varsity days and found none that soothed my skin. Am absolutely committed to Ella Bache products - expensive but fabulous for my skin.

Sherbert37 · 31/10/2006 12:40

Not sure if Clinique counts as expensive but have used it forever and my skin is generally ok. It's simple to use and there are not too many different products.

PrincessPeaHead · 31/10/2006 12:41

clinique v tough, though. absolutely NOT for sensitive skins.

Tutter · 31/10/2006 12:42

interesting you say that pph - i tried the dramaticaly different moisturiser when my skin was pretty good (in my 20s) and i reacted badly

No, not on the whole
A regular(ish) facial is though, whether salon or diy

MrsBadger · 31/10/2006 12:47

I have tough oily skin and even it couldn't cope with Clinique.

My sister buys me stuff from Bliss for my birthday which is pretty good, and though expensive the quantities are much bigger than normal cosmetic bottles (more shampoo-sized) so ml for ml aren't that dear, and last ages (a year and counting).

Also had good results with Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm after a bad exfoliating experience - guess that's 'a bit expensive' at £22 a pot. But, again, it was a present...

cupcakes · 31/10/2006 12:47

I have tried
Estee Lauder
Clinique
Philosophy
Dr Hauschka
Origins
Lancome

The best cleanser I've found is Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. It's amazing and only costs about £10. I also use her toner.

Am still on the hunt for the perfect moisturiser so any recommendations welcomed!

PrincessPeaHead · 31/10/2006 12:50

people really like the dr hauschka rose moisturiser.

I used Eve Lom stuff for a while which I did really like but she doesn't do a very good moisturiser (she isn't really into moisturisers).

Actually I think the Olay day moisturiser (the one in the pot with the black lid, SPF 15) is excellent. Available in your local sainsburys!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 31/10/2006 12:50

I love the Liz Earle stuff too - cleanser and moisturiser (don't bother with toner). I did have some Philosophy stuff that I quite liked - their cleanser is good too, used it with the Liz Earle muslin to take it off (although, weirdly, the Philosophy body lotion and shower gel brought me out in a rash)

cupcakes · 31/10/2006 12:56

is that the delux olay range? (can't remember name - with the seven signs of aging ads)

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 31/10/2006 12:58

I'd be interested to try the new Olay Definity stuff, with the foaming moisturiser . anyone tried it?

Marina · 31/10/2006 12:58

Eve Lom cleanser is terrific and so is the Origins White Tea Extract moisturiser. Eve Lom pricy but worth every penny on a blemish containments per £1 ratio.

moljam · 31/10/2006 12:58

no,i use dream cream from lush and it is so cheap and simple but feels lovely.

jabberthefriendlyghost · 31/10/2006 13:01

Haven't found the more expensive stuff to really make a difference. I try different things from time to time, but seem to always go back to my basic regimen of:

cleansing bar
witch hazel for toner
cocoa butter for moisterizer.

hub2dee · 31/10/2006 13:01

dw 'discovers' these new ranges regularly. We've had Hauschka, Lerique (or whatever that stupid range from Switzerland was called) and dermologica, and Bare Essentials and some wanky cream that cost £60 (Shisheido ?), we've had sun-exposed algae seaweed NASA shite etc. etc. etc. What a pile of chemical pants. If there was any ingredent which actually did anything, and could show improvements in a 'scientifically controlled way' the medical world would be marketing it as a treatment. It's all a great big con IMHO and I personally find it quite depressing women go for this kind of thing and the dodgy marketing claims make me heave.

PrincessPeaHead · 31/10/2006 13:02

this one I think from the total effects range

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 31/10/2006 13:02

But hub, we're worth it. So what do you use?

PrincessPeaHead · 31/10/2006 13:03

jurlique, hub. australian I believe

Marina · 31/10/2006 13:04

Hub uses coal tar soap and washes his hair in Fairy Liquid I'm sure

PrincessPeaHead · 31/10/2006 13:05

ok why I like the olay cream (I have dry skin) - it is light on, sinks in well, but moisturises really well, after a minute or two you can put on foundation without it sliding off, and it has a nice very light clean smell.

and spf 15 which is A Good Thing

Piffle · 31/10/2006 13:06

I've tried EVERYTHING
The only expensive skin care I rate is Eve Lom - I think the Liz Earle one is similar at least the cleanse polish one. Also people rave about Creme de la Mer...
PPH does Perricone not require you to adhere to a special diet for max effect?
